Brief overview of Noom

By Christina L., Louisville, KY, Verified Reviewer

Noom brands itself as a lifestyle change rather than a diet. If one only goes through the initial two weeks of free training, that branding could feel false. However, staying with the program for the first few weeks, it becomes obvious that this is an educational and training program that allows the members to make choices and experiment with the information they’re given. There is no shaming for getting off track no matter the reason.

I noticed that those who avail themselves of only the basics and skip the articles, quizzes, challenges, and community support, have a more difficult time and often place blame on Noom, ignoring the fact that they are avoiding 90% of the program. You get out of it what you put in. If you read the daily articles that are focused on teaching how the body and mind in different states affect the way food is processed, and how different foods are processed, your success at developing better habits is much higher.

Noom feels like a crash course in applied biology, anatomy, psychology, and more, but is tempered by the humor so that it doesn’t cause an abundance of trepidation and stress.

My coach has been proactive. The more I invest in her, the more she invests in my program. The group coach is active as well. I’ve noticed that the coaches seem to follow the members when it comes to the amount of time and interaction they spend.

Noom attempts to appeal to people of different cultures and beliefs through the language they use. If you are offended when someone phrases things in the idiom of a Christian, Buddhist, Vegan, or whatever, then this program might not be for you.

I came into the program at the request of my daughter who wanted a partner. What I got out of the program was learning to eat the way someone with hypoglycemia should. The settings in the app allow the member to set notifications. My life is so much better, even though I feel as though I’m constantly eating. And, even though I’m eating so much more often, I’ve lost 25 pounds and am now in the average weight category. That’s pretty good for someone with multiple disabilities. I’m staying with Noom until I’m certain my new habits are permanent.

Noom has been a lifestyle change for me and I’m so much better for it. If anyone is willing to put in the time and effort to follow the course, and is willing to tell their coaches about the obstacles they’re facing, they should see successes. There may be times when a member feels as though they’re failing, but the community will support them until they move past the obstacle. When I say ‘community’, I’m not only speaking of Noom, but related sites set up by members.

All in all, I believe Noom is what they say they are. Different programs work better for different people. It works for me and is worth a try for anyone who has been through other programs and found them lacking.

UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER

By Kensi D., Louisiana, Verified Reviewer

I stumbled across Noom playing on social media one day. They allowed me to choose what I would like to pay for the trial, and since I figure this absolutely can't be easy to offer this guidance without charging people, I CHOSE to pay $10 for the trial. I never got around to even opening the app, because let's be honest, LIFE. I check my account today, to find a charge of $141.84. I never read on the trial page that an automatic renewal was mandatory nor did I receive any email stating that my trial was coming up for "AUTOMATIC RENEWAL". People are busy in life, with work, kids, etc. This should not be another thing on the list of to do's that we have to worry about canceling if we did NOT actually sign up for this kind of subscription. I believed I was signing up for a trial run at the app, not selling my soul for 141 bucks. While I received information that I should be expecting a refund, please up your game, NOOM; it's not fair that you didn't notify that this was taking place until after the fact.

Lesson learned.

Scam

By Karen S., Ohio, Verified Reviewer

I’ve read all of the reviews NOW. I wish I had read them before. I never would have joined. I am being charger $105.68. There is no person to talk to in order to inquire WHY I am being charged that amount. Thankfully, my credit card is now handling the matter.

App is not available

By James B., Bigfork, MN, Verified Reviewer

The billing was fast but no phone number is available...slow to respond to things...need to have an iPad to get it. I would not recommend based on billing practice and customer service.

Did you know about the recurring billing?

By Greg H., Oregon, Verified Reviewer

I feel I was deceived. I bought a 10-month program. I was charged for a second 10-month plan. I want a refund. So far they are saying no.

Their "system" did not work for me. I do not have a problem with the system, I have a problem with their shady billing practices.

Check your credit card statements

By Francesco P., White Plains, NY, Verified Reviewer

I thought I was subscribing to a free trial!

In fact, all I received were 4 lines on my credit card statement from Noom for a total of $256.32. I had problems on the Noom website trying to finish the subscription, so I assumed that I did not successfully subscribe.

I never received anything from Noom. Fortunately, I check my credit card statements.

Noom has no customer service contact by telephone, so I contacted them by chat. The customer services assistant was very efficient in canceling the subscription and initiating my refund.

This incident makes me seriously doubt the reliability of Noom.

Do not waste your time

By Barb S., Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

This is not at all personalized and too few calories per day. It would not work for most people long term. You can do much better with Weight Watchers online or a low carb plan. I would not recommend this at all. I'm disappointed, and it's a waste of time.

Great learning and results!

By Sarah M., Belton, TX, Verified Reviewer

I started Noom at a time when I had become seriously confused about nutrition and food in general, due to the overwhelming amount of conflicting advice out there. Noom's daily learning tasks have really helped me gain a more balanced perspective on what role nutrition plays in weight loss. I'm seven weeks into my session and very glad that I joined.

Great program!

By Darla A., Ohio, Verified Reviewer

I love this program! It is teaching me to eat healthy while addressing the psychological aspects of why I have failed in the past. It covers the whole picture! Not just calorie counting or counting my steps..it's the whole package. I have lost 10 pounds in 11 days. Thank you Noom!

Not for me

By Mary S., Iowa, Verified Reviewer

I love the way that the program worked. I like how the meals logged in, and the pedometer works really good for me, but I'm on disability and am not able to walk or exercise a lot. I read the reviews on how hard it was to cancel, but when I put in that I wanted to cancel after the trial, it went through immediately. It said it would take 2 to 3 days but it only took 5 minutes. I think for a normal person who could exercise a little more, this program would work really well. Being on a limited income, I could not afford the $149 that was charged. I was sure it said $24 or $25 a month after the trial and was surprised when the charge came through. Thank God it was easily rectified.

Total scam and TERRIBLE non existent customer service

By C W., Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

This is a complete scam. Customer service doesn’t exist. Won’t return emails after being provided contact from the "coach." Shame on this company.

Do not join!

One star is too much, should be a negative rating.

Terrible.
