Noom - do not buy or try!

By Lisa C., Charleston, IL, Verified Reviewer

I canceled this Noom lame app within 3 days of having the trial period and they charged me $99 anyhow. I email several times and got no response. You can't talk to anyone, there is no phone number to call. You have to wait for an email response. The app is not user-friendly.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

FRAUD

By Doreen M., Arizona, Verified Reviewer

I have never been able to load the app and have made numerous attempts at contacting Noom to no avail.

Why will they not contact me? Are they frauds?

However, they did deduct $139.06 from my account. It was supposed to be $129.00. Qhat is this all about?

The probability of being published is low because it is a negative but truthful comment. Perhaps HighYa's staff can help to rectify this problem and get someone to contact me. Please help me.

Horribly ran business with lack of structure

By Cheryl L., San Jose, CA, Verified Reviewer

When I first purchased Noom, I added the Orig3n DNA test to my package as well. I was told results would be back to me in 8 weeks. I reached out multiple times in regards to not receiving my results. I reached out to Orig3n in November 2018 and I was told to wait a little longer. I purchased in September of 2018, my sample was received in October 2018, and I didn't even get notification of it being processed until March 2019.

No other services were used at all as I was very unhappy with the company and lack of response and results, so I reached out in late December 2018 to Noom complaining about Orig3n and Noom services requesting a refund since their services were not as promised. I heard back from one rep (Michael Krisher) from Noom saying I was supposed to receive an email to schedule a phone consult and I never received that and I would have to contact Orig3n. I replied back that I wanted my refund and to cancel and did not get a response. I reached out again in January 2019 with Orig3n in regards to my complaints and not receiving my DNA results. Orig3n confirmed they sent a request to Noom for a refund which I still not have received.

Now on April 1st I was charged again by Noom. So now they owe me a total of $298.00. I emailed them requesting support on April 1st and it is now April 4th and I still have not heard back from anyone. Horrible business that just takes your money.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Terrible customer service

By Jeremy H., Portland, OR, Verified Reviewer

I’ll keep this short. Beware of the trial period and don’t sign up for this. I have been fighting for months to get them to stop charging my card and they pretty much just ignore me.

Do not sign up

By Lisa Y., Texas, Verified Reviewer

Upon sign up you will get info on getting a coach and team within 2 weeks. The funny part is that it is during your "free trial" so you don't get to start anything for free. The 15th day I was immediately charged $99 when I was not participating because I had no guide on how to keep going, so I paid for nothing that was promised. Upon a refund, I was told no because I did not elect to withdraw within the 14-day trial. Waste of time and money. I just threw away $99 so someone else can sit on their butt. Extremely frustrated and disappointed in the robbery.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not for me

By Carmel S., New York, Verified Reviewer

I joined Noom yesterday and was so excited to start my full first day with it, thinking I would get up this morning to some messages and words of wisdom and encouragement to start my day, but I was so disappointed to see nothing from them. So I started my day and logged my food and that was pretty much it! There is no meal plan, no exercise plan, and no support, and I am half way through my day and have heard from no one. I sent my goal coach my first goal and heard nothing back.

To me this is very similar to Weight Watchers, so I went ahead and canceled my 14-day trial with the "coach" and sure enough as soon as I sent that message about canceling I hear back straight away from them, so I have canceled as I was afraid to go any further into the 14 days in case I would get charged more.

This is definitely not for me and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

At week 10 I haven't lost any weight.

By Crystal S., San Mateo, CA, Verified Reviewer

I haven't lost a single pound after 10 weeks.

I have tried almost every program out there - WW, Nutrisystem, FitnessPal, low carb, calorie counting, you name it. I've lost some weight with all of them, but then gained it back. But I haven't lost a single pound after 10 weeks with Noom. Why not? Good question, and one the "coaches" don't seem to want to touch or delve into either.

After a couple of weeks I "fired" my personal coach. I politely asked her to please ignore me and not check up on me. Why? She'd text me in the middle of my workouts, wouldn't get back to me for hours (so I was never actually having a conversation with her), and when I fully opened up about my frustrations and history, her advice was to keep logging and increase my workouts. I already work out 5 times a week and have a personal trainer, and any more (in my experience) will cause injuries. She was more a non-invested painful hindrance than a help.

The group coach was nice, but not really motivating, and while I think our group has about 22 people, only 2-3 ever chime in or respond. So not a real cohesive bunch. Basically, I find the coaches unmotivating and unhelpful overall, because you can tell that this is a side job for them and they'll get around to you when they get around to you. You're not their focus.

For me, the worst part was the food logging system. It is clunky like crazy, especially if you've used MyFitnessPal. I mean, it's like riding a tricycle instead of a Ferrari. They don't allow 1/3 cup measurements (everything's in multiples of 1/4, but not 1/8), they don't have a large number of foods in their database, and I found myself constantly switching to MFP to get accurate calorie counts. They have nebulous measures like "a bowl" as a serving (whose bowl? I have some really big bowls...) but nothing solid like 1/3 cup. It's pretty horrible. This also means that you can't put in recipe ingredients for any recipe that calls for 1/8 of something or 1/3 of something. Ugh.

The food rating system (green, yellow, red) is not really good because automatically you think of red foods as "bad", even though they say they're not. I found it very easy to ignore the color system.

There's a lot of reading, broken down into bits, which is nice, but after 10 weeks of reading something every day without results it turns into blahblahblah and I just no longer care.

Lastly, the app is clunky and has some questionable information, especially in the beginning. They assigned me a calorie number which seemed really low, especially how I work out, and when I asked about it, 3 days later they replied and said I could adjust it. Hmm. If left to my own devices anyway, what's the point? I found that since it gives you a portion of your workouts back as additional calories it works out ok, but for the first 2 free weeks (the trial period - huh!) they leave you in the dark about a lot of things. It also always gives me the wrong number of calories left in my day when I look at the Analysis page, but then somehow corrects itself on the front page. It gave me a heart attack in the beginning, but now I ignore it, like just about everything else about this program.

I've seen people complain about not being able to get the company to stop charging their credit cards. So I used a gift card and when that's empty, they can try to recharge it until the cows come home, but it's no longer my problem.

Bottom line: They obviously don't care, so why should you? Move on to a better system and save your money.

Shady. Did not respect my request to cancel or return my money.

By Sarah B., Forest Hills, NY, Verified Reviewer

This app is way too expensive for what it is. MyFitnessPal is just as good, and it’s free. I gave this one a go and signed up for two months. When I followed their directions to cancel, my request was ignored and my account was debited again. Noom has not responded to my request for a refund. Don’t risk it!

I'm mad!

By Janet C., Mississippi, Verified Reviewer

I tell you one thing, this company will be accused of taking an unauthorized debit out of my bank account to the tune $159! For what? I have no product whatsoever, and I thought uninstalling the app was the way to cancel. When I realized that some things were not accurate, I uninstalled the app, way before the free trial days were up. Then I see they got my money? How can they justify taking $159 for absolutely nothing! It's theft pure and simple, and I will take the proper steps to prosecute and get my money back period. I'm sure this review won't be posted, but if there is anyone that actually RECEIVES this message, tell the CEO of Noom that I mean what I say.

Beware of the free trial! There is no canceling!

By Tiffeny H., Indiana, Verified Reviewer

This company will give you the runaround for sure! If you start with the free trial, beware! There is no way to contact a human through phone or email. There is not even the "real" coach, more or less this chat bubble they say you have to use to cancel. In order to cancel the free trial, they instruct you to download the app on your phone, contact your coach and go from there. Well, that's not possible because there is no chat bubble or coach on the app! So being unable to cancel, I was charged $129 which they say is non-refundable! I now have to go through the trouble of canceling my card and re-establishing all of my auto-pay accounts for my bills, etc.

This is nothing but a scam as far as I am concerned. Do not fall for it! You are better off just eating healthy and exercising on your own!

Tell you one price and charge another!

By Brooke L., California, Verified Reviewer

I came across this ad on Facebook and thought ok, let's give it a try, for a $1 trial, why not. It advertised $24 per month. So I read everything I could find on the website and didn't see anything crazy, decided why not...I gotta do something, so I signed up. Well, I couldn't get the app to work right, I had to keep uninstalling and reinstalling it...so that was super annoying, but whatever, right. Then we had a family emergency, and this kind of fell to the wayside. Then I see a charge for $149 hit my account!

I immediately open my bank app to see who this charge is from and it's NOOM. Well, $149 is NOT $24, there has to be some mistake for sure, right? So I once again fight with the app to open so I can message the "personal trainer" (robot) who tells me I'll get an email response in 3-4 business days. Well, not cool, so I ask for a phone number. No response, at all...

A few later I get an email that says sorry no refunds, but you can use the app for the six months that you have elected to pay for even though you have canceled. I didn't elect to pay $149 for something that I haven't even had time to set up yet! So, I respond with this to the email, and I'm once again ignored and still have no customer service phone number to call and speak to a real person to work this out. There is a huge difference between $149 and $24, and if the payments all have to be made up front, that should be clearly written. It is obvious by my account that I have not utilized anything, so it is not like I am trying to use what I want and then return it and scam them. This is not good business. I wish I had been warned before trying this!
