Plexaderm is a skincare serum that is claimed to reduce your undereye bags and wrinkles after just 10 minutes of use. The results are temporary, but the manufacturer promises to give you a more youthful appearance that lasts until you wash it off.

The company claims that results will differ by person, but that you should see improvements in the tone, texture, and appearance of your skin.

In this review, we take a detailed look at Plexaderm’s effectiveness to help you decide if it is the right option for you.

Ingredients: Is There Evidence for Their Effectiveness?

“Tissue and muscle around the eyes weaken as we age,” says Dr. Debra Jaliman, a board-certified dermatologist and Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine in Mount Sinai (NY).

“When the tissues and muscles weaken, some of the fat around the eyes moves downward and accumulates under the eyes causing the bags. Fluid can also accumulate under your eyes causing the bags.”

To address this issue, Plexaderm contains silicate minerals from shale clay, sodium silicate and magnesium aluminum, that the company claims will temporarily firm up your skin.

These minerals form a layer across your skin that both tightens and lifts crow’s feet and wrinkles that are surrounding your eyes to smooth the skin and shrink undereye bags.

The company links to a clinical study on its website. According to testing conducted on 43 people, using Plexaderm produced to the following results:

  • 80% decrease in under-eye bags
  • 80% decrease in dark circles
  • 81% decrease of crow’s feet and wrinkles
  • 74% decrease in smile lines
  • 85% decrease in depth of forehead lines

43 people make for a small study, so these results do not mean that Plexaderm will work for everyone.

Likewise, this study doesn’t specify how long these results lasted for participants or how long after application the testing took place.

We also weren’t able to find any independent research that looked specifically at the effects of these ingredients when used in skincare products.

Despite these shortcomings, Dr. Jaliman believes that the two active ingredients in Plexaderm will work as described because they create a constricting effect that improves your skin’s appearance.

“The sodium silicate tightens while the magnesium aluminum silicate thickens and emulsifies the cream… [Together] they will temporarily tighten the skin around your eyes,” Jaliman said.

Safety

There aren’t any significant safety concerns with Plexaderm’s ingredients.

The Food and Drug Administration classifies sodium silicate as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRS).

It’s a similar story for magnesium aluminum silicate, as the Cosmetic Ingredient Review assessed the compound and found that it wasn’t irritating to the skin when applied topically for a week straight.

Plexaderm’s other ingredients include a blend of emulsifiers, binding agents, and preservatives that are both common in similar products and considered safe to use topically.

Analysis of Customer Reviews

Over 90 customers have reviewed Plexaderm on our website for an average rating of 1.7-stars out of five.

Some users reported issues with the dispensers that prevented them from working while others wrote that the results only lasted for a few minutes after application or not at all. Still, others stated that the serum left their skin rough and irritated after use.

On the positive side, reviewers praised Plexaderm’s customer service and flexible return policy. A few also thought the product worked as described and made them feel more confident in their own skin.

The sentiments on Amazon are similar, as the serum earns 2.8 stars on that platform. Several users complained that while the serum did temporarily reduce their wrinkles, they ruined the effect as soon as they applied makeup or even smiled.

Pricing and Return Policy

Plexaderm is priced at $59.95, with free shipping. This provides you with a 5ml bottle with enough product for thirty days.

There is an option to buy three bottles for $119.90 in a buy two, get one free deal.

Plexaderm orders are covered by a 30-day-hassle-free guarantee. This means you can send your purchase back for any reason within that time-frame for a full refund, minus shipping charges.

The Bottom Line

Plexaderm promises to temporarily reduce your undereye bags. Our research shows that it seems to work as described, at least for some people and for a short time.

This product doesn’t claim to work a miracle, and as such, you should keep your expectations realistic when you use it.

Customers of Plexaderm don’t seem overly pleased with this product. Many wrote in their reviews that the results were too temporary to be worthwhile. That fits what many skin experts believe about restoring aging facial skin.

“Under the eyes is one of the most difficult concerns to address,” Dr. Jennifer Gordon, a board-certified dermatologist at Austin-area Westlake Dermatology, told us.

“Truly getting rid of eye bags takes surgery, but things like eye creams, massage, and decreasing inflammation can help. Hydrating the skin and building collagen can help, but concealer often is still your best friend.”

For this reason, Plexaderm might make sense for a big night out or another special event. You might find it’s excellent for reducing undereye bags after a sleepless night or as a quick way to put your face at its best before taking family photos.

If you’re looking for a more permanent solution, take Dr. Gordon’s advice and seek out a product that can build up collagen.

Major concerns

By Terri Mullins, Oconomowoc, WI, Verified Reviewer

I started using this product in hopes it would help with the under eye puffiness and discoloration. While it did seem to tighten the skin after application, as soon as I applied the remainder of my skin products, the effects were significantly lessened. There also was a white coating on the skin that would flake and appear wrinkled under makeup, etc.

While I was willing for the time to put up with the above, the experience that totally turned me off was when I was using the plunger to squirt the product onto my fingers for application and it misfired and sprayed my mirror. To my horror, the product actually ate away the outside layer of the mirror, and it is now "pocked." I can actually feel the missing layer. If it eats away something like glass, I can't imagine what it will do to my face over time! I plan to return the last three tubes I purchased and hope the company will reimburse me.

Disappointed

By Marie, Long Beach, CA, Verified Reviewer

I can't put into words on how disappointed I am in Plexaderm, but I will somehow try. Not only does Plexaderm do nothing for my under eye puffiness, the white residue brings more attention to the problem, even after I wipe away the excess. I have to say, I would NOT recommend this product to my friends. Thank goodness I only ordered the one bottle.

False claims

By Susan Svetlichny, Honolulu, HI, Verified Reviewer

Plexaderm presents with a convincing commercial by showing dramatic results in the reduction of under eye puffiness. It simply did nothing for my husband's undereye puffiness, and the line concealing quality is very average. There are many products out there that deliver the same results for decreasing the appearance of line and wrinkles around the eye area and are much less expensive.

Good for nothing!

By Henry L. Lincoln, Ohio, Verified Reviewer

This Plexaderm is good for nothing. I've tried it, and I hope I can get my money back. What gets me the most is it doesn't work, and you have to pay for it to be shipped, and if you are returning it you have to pay to send it back. Customer service tries to convince you why you should keep it even after you have told them you don't want it. They really need to be exposed on a national level.

Cheaper products can be used instead of Plexaderm

By Barbara A Boyle, Washington, Verified Reviewer

I used Sudden Change, bought at a local drug store, for under eye bags and I had the same results as Plexaderm, and I only paid $7.99. You do not have to pay such a high price when you can find products elsewhere.

The mark up on Plexaderm is horrible so please check out other items that do the same thing, at a much cheaper cost.

Gives rashes

By Neal, Miami, FL, Verified Reviewer

I purchased one tube of Plexaderm and was initially impressed with the results, so after the first few applications, I purchased two more tubes. After using this product for about 40 days total, it gave me a bad rash on my skin under both eyes. I applied just a touch, and it started to itch. I rinsed it off, and the skin my eyes stayed red for the entire day. Quite embarrassing. This happened a few times before I had to stop using it.

I contacted Leigh Ann Goodrich with customer service, who stated that their policy was firm. No returns after 30 days, even if the product is unopened. Nice customer service, especially when you are selling a product that gives people rashes. I do not recommend this company. Use another!

Grossly overpriced compared to similar product by Peter Thomas Roth

By Lori Donovan, South Carolina, Verified Reviewer

I tried it for the 30-day period only, and I called them and told them I didn’t want it. They gave me a full refund without having to send the bottle back.

However, the main reason I returned it is because I found out about a virtually identical product, Peter Thomas Roth Instant Firm Temporary Face Tightener, 3.4 ounces for $28.00 via Walmart! A friend told me about it, and so I got a sample of it from Sephora, and it is even better than Plexaderm. It feels better on the face and it is dirt cheap compared to Plexaderm. Go get a sample of this other product and see for yourself.

Plexiderm is a HUGELY overpriced product due to all the television marketing.

Looking older before my time

By Ellen Reglus, Ohio, Verified Reviewer

I bought this product for myself and my mother. Unfortunately for me, the product made me look older. This product left my left eye discolored as my right eye now has a permanent wrinkle under it.

I have since then emailed them as well as called them. They replied back with an email saying someone will be in touch with me. That was over one week and three days ago and I have not heard anything else back from them.

This product is not safe to use. After I used it, I showed my doctor the product and he said the chemicals in this were NOT good at all. I am disappointed as well scarred. I would STRONGLY suggest that no one else buy this product! You won't be happy!

I would have liked to post my before and after pics, but I am embarrassed. This product really messed up my looks. I hope this review will help someone. I wish I had looked up the reviews before purchasing this product because I would not have purchased it. ANYTHING that sounds too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true.

Sincerely, unhappy and dissatisfied customer.

Bull crap and too expensive

By Eileen Gregorkiewicz, New Jersey, Verified Reviewer

Bunch of bull crap. Go to Rite Aid and buy a bottle of Sudden Change under eye serum. It does the same thing and costs about $10.00 if that. Wake up, people! Also I myself am tired of seeing these commercials. I would never buy anything that would lock me into monthly payments.

Plexaderm not for woman who use day creams and makeup!

By Paula Van Der Zwaan, California, Verified Reviewer

Plexaderm does not work for women who use day creams and make up! You need to apply this on a clean and dry skin (no creams), and after applying, you can't put anything on your face as that takes the effect away. This is great for men who don't use any day creams.

It doesn't feel good when it's on your skin, and you feel it pulling your skin, but a white residue stays on your skin.

Don't waste your money on this!

Does not work and they wouldn't refund.

By Julie Syverson, Washington, Verified Reviewer

I bought Plexaderm at the end of November but didn't use it until Christmas Day. I didn't pay attention that the satisfaction guarantee was only good until December 17th so they will not refund for a product that doesn't work. If I had really paid attention I would have tried it sooner, but with the Holidays, time got away.

DO NOT waste your money on this product! It ever so slightly pulled the skin tight under my eyes but made an odd look, and if I put makeup on it looked even worse. It also slightly burned when I first put it on. Again, DO NOT buy this!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
