Don’t buy the food - disgusting tasting

By Elaine Barakett Thomas, Verified Reviewer

This has to be the worst tasting and most horrible looking food. We have to disguise the food and mix with cabbage and onions to cover up the taste. The smells are bad and nauseating. It looks nothing like the TV commercials or the box. Portions are very small and made with synthetic ingredients. If you look at box ingredients, most are not natural - you can’t pronounce half the ingredients. The meals are not healthy.

These people should be ashamed for selling this - there is no reason that they could not make something better tasting and better for you.

Heads up - read fine print before you accept auto ship if you decide to sign up for the program

By Betty Worri, Wellington, FL, Verified Reviewer

After some research, I decided to try the South Beach Diet plan. I received a huge box with various food items. Some of the meals were edible enough, but most of them tasted strange. Some were just not edible and had to be discarded.

I had so much food left over close to my next auto shipment that I decided to delay the next shipment. Then I decided maybe I should just cancel the program altogether because I still haven’t finished eating the first batch of food. But alas, as easily as they make it for you to sign up online, it is impossible to cancel online. So I had to call the dreaded customer service. After several attempts at dissuading me from leaving the program, they dropped it on me: "just would like let you know that per the auto-ship agreement you signed when you joined, we’ll have to charge your credit card for $125 for canceling before your second auto-ship."

I obviously can’t place all the blame on the company because I should have paid more attention to the details on the sign-up page. However, I still think it is a very underhanded way to do business. That detail is important enough that it probably should be the first thing you read when you start the sign-up process.

I have never written a review, but I feel so strongly about businesses misleading consumers that I have taken the time to write this review. Hopefully, it will help someone avoid my mistake. It wasn’t for me for reasons summarized above, but it may be the perfect program for someone else. I just like people to be aware of the pitfalls before they jump in.

Horrible service!

By Sheri Herrin, Indianapolis, IN, Verified Reviewer

I'm very disappointed with this service. I started Phase 1 on Monday after getting my shipment on Saturday. The instructions were not in the box, so they emailed them to me (and mailed them). The instructions told me specifically what to eat, when, BUT they DIDN'T ship at least 1/3 of the items listed! When I called to ask what to substitute, I got a counselor who told me what to eat in Phase 2! They did give me $15 off my next order, but it's been frustrating to look for the item I'm supposed to eat, and it's not there. What is the point if Phase 1 if you can't follow it?

I finally gave up and just pick something I think might work as a substitute. The food is good, but I'm beyond frustrated. Why send instructions if you aren't going to send the correct food products?

South Beach prepared frozen meals

By Heidi Colee, Northwest, IN, Verified Reviewer

I know the South Beach Diet works if you want to take the initiative and understand what you need to eat, however, I chose the lazy man's route and ordered the month's worth of prepared frozen entrees, shakes and bars.

Some of the bars are ok. And I can honestly say I haven't tried the shakes yet, however, the frozen meals are terrible. You'll lose weight for sure if you don't eat. They are inedible garbage that I wouldn't feed to a dog. I disliked them so much I paid an additional $125 to break my contract and not have them send me any more food if that tells you anything. I just think for the price you pay, you should get something that tastes similar to food.

If I could give zero stars, that would've been my choice.

Food delivery is a waste of money

By Annette Hammond, Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

You will receive an exorbitant amount of processed food that tastes absolutely awful. Don’t waste your money. You’d be better off buying a South Beach cookbook if that’s the recipe plan you wish to follow. I have tried several plans, and it all goes back to healthy fresh foods and exercise. Please don’t waste your time or money like I unfortunately experienced. Beware.

South Beach Diet rip-off

By Mike Futala, Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

In my opinion, the South Beach Diet program is a complete rip-off. I ordered their "special" at $12.14 a day total was $349 after tax I guess and today I got my delivery. It is absolute garbage. Tiny little packages of frozen food that doesn't even fit into one hand is supposed to be a breakfast. Boxes of shake mixes and candy bars. There a few mini frozen meals that are smaller than what you get in a grocery store for $3.39. Then I called and said please don't send any more orders and they told me ok if you cancel before an auto shipment we will bill you an penalty of $125! I paid over $500 for a box of junk food.

Please don't buy this terrible food. Diet-To-Go is much better; South Beach diet delivery food is a complete rip-off.

South Beach Diet ripoff and horrible food

By Michelle Rizzo, Yardley, PA, Verified Reviewer

The food sent by this plan is disgusting; meat is low-quality and flavorless, and the plan sends you massive amounts of food all at once that no regular person has room for in their freezer. That leaves you also with lots of packaging to have to recycle. Nowhere are you ever warned about the massive amounts of packaging and freezer room you will need.

I asked specifically that spicy foods not be sent and actually requested the meals that I wanted, but they didn’t honor that request and sent lots of foods I didn’t ask for. When I called to cancel, they made it nearly impossible; you can't cancel online, you have to call to do so, and when you do, they transfer you to a highly trained retention specialist whose sole job is to talk you out of canceling. I persisted, but the retention specialist then told me about some hidden wording that said I still must pay them $125 more! Seriously?

My freezer is still full of their gross food that I haven't eaten in 2 months and likely never will, yet they insist I still owe them $125? I think not.

Horrible food and money scam

By Veronica Mathis, New Jersey, Verified Reviewer

Firstly, the cancellation process is not easy. You can't cancel online. You have to call them, and if you cancel before the second delivery, you are back charged a $125 auto-delivery discount from your first order. I was not aware of this discount when I ordered. The rep didn't mention this when I placed my order by phone.

Next, the food was so horrible and bland I can't take another order, even if I wanted to avoid the back charge of $125. I threw the box of food in the dumpster after trying many of the meals. The food looks and tastes horrible.

I am not new to diet plans or delivery diet plans like Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem. This is the worst diet plan I've ever tried. I lost 16 lbs on my own so far in 2018 without this gimmick. I learned an expensive lesson by ordering this and wasting my money. I returned to the basics of eating healthy foods, counting calories and drinking lots of H20.

Try something else

By Yvonne Rimbert, Louisiana, Verified Reviewer

The food is not good at all. It is very, very pricey. I called to cancel in my second week (I paid $300 for a month of food), and they said I have to pay a $125.00 cancellation fee if I don't subscribe for at least two months. This is how they get you. I thought it was guaranteed. Do NOT waste your money!

Worthless

By Richard P., Texas, Verified Reviewer

There were not to be any frozen foods. Yea right, almost everything was frozen. I have $400+ to be thrown away, no place to keep it. I eliminated all shakes, popcorn, and add eggs, etc. They don't care and send what they want. If you don't like their products, they charge you $125.00 to stop. As far as I am concerned, this is a SCAM. When you call, they are not interested, just explain to you how you don't know what you are doing. If you ask for a supervisor, they will not have one. Buyer beware. One star only because I was required. It should be a minus.

South Beach Diet customer service

By Lisa M., Queens, NY, Verified Reviewer

Unfortunately, I have had such a horrible experience with their customer service. As a first-time person signing up, everything was amazingly smooth. Then they ignore you. I was on hold for nearly an hour today once again, and the person still could not help me. I finally got smart and called on the line that said "first-time customer" and it was picked up immediately, and the girl is trying to help me with my situation.

I do not need this stress, and neither do you! I highly recommend you go somewhere else for your diet delivery products.
