Horrible registration process

Bought a car from Carvana, which was smooth. My temporary tag expired on June 30th and it’s August 20 and I STILL have not received my actual license plate and registration for my vehicle, which I was supposed to get BEFORE my temp tag expired, or at least a few days after. Talked to Carvana and all they could tell me is "it’s processing." For over a month it's processing?! Anyways, yeah, avoid buying a car from them if you have the option. Also, I’ve looked up online if other people have had this same issue with their registration process and yes, many people have. So it’s clearly an issue with Carvana.

Got car delivered in June - still no plates or registration

We received our 2017 VW Tiguan in June - our temp plates and registration expired on August 9, 2020. Two days before the expiration, we reached out to customer service because we were traveling out of town with the car and didn't want to take a car with expired documents. The customer service rep (the only one who was nice enough to actually try to assist us) told us that due to COVID everything was delayed, which we completely understood. She told us they were only reissuing some people new temp plates and others were basically getting a letter which you are supposed to hand to a police officer to read, if they pulled you over. We openly accepted the letter and waited.

September came around - we reached back out and customer service was NO help. They told us they did not have an ETA and basically not to drive the car. What's the point of having a new car if you can't drive it? We reached back out at the end of September - still no help. We reached back out in October and their update was that the documents were submitted but they had no ETA because it was now in the hands of DMV. Considering we bought a car from YOU - you should be able to give us all updated detailed information regardless of COVID or delays.

We are now going on 3 months with nothing. I had to post a bad review on the Carvana Facebook for someone to actually give me any information. I was told my registration was on a 6-8 week delay from the day of delivery, well, that puts us at this week. Still no plates or registration. I checked in with DMV NY and inputted the information - they said the information I gave for the car doesn't match their records. I then did a VIN search for the car and it says the title is in Ohio as of June 30th, 2020. We purchased the car WELL BEFORE this date, so why is the title processed there and for that date. I felt as if they only went out of their way for you within the 7 days window to return the car. The car also came not detailed - it had dog hair EVERYWHERE, garbage between the seats, and some sticky substance on the dashboard. The gas tank door latch was also broken and the inside of the door handle was peeling. We still kept the car but the look of it when delivered was unacceptable.

My husband purchased a car from an actual dealer at the very end of August and received his plates and registration in September. Every time we call they keep saying check your dashboard. Well, my dashboard says ZERO days for registration - so what am I checking?

I understand that the world is overwhelming right now but this is your job and when you have stressed out customers calling for a little help and update in regards to something that is REQUIRED and illegal to drive with. Some more information should be given, they should not be told we cannot give you any information.

The process may seem stress-free and wondering - getting a car delivered to your house but after that, it is not good. They need to retrain their customer service reps and have a better process for submitting information to DMV during these times.

I probably wouldn't purchase from them again. I will go to a legit dealer from here on out.

License and registration

My experience in the beginning was great. Zero problems making contact. Hold times were tolerable. About two weeks prior to my temporary plates expiring, I began calling and trying to find out the status as the dashboard was saying it is "Processing". Last week after several calls, it was changed to "Paperwork Received". After hours and hours of waiting on calls, I have had two managers tell me they would call me back this week but have not. Yesterday, someone I spoke with on Monday called me back and mentioned there was a problem with my title but that I should hear back from someone as my account was noted that I was to get a call back on the 13th. Yesterday, I made my second car payment for a car that I can not legally drive. To say I am frustrated is an understatement.

Left hand front bumper damaged and colored

After looking at the 360° view online, which stated three imperfections that I am fine with, and checking the Carfax report showing all good, the odometer shown as 34,755 for Nissan Rogue SV, I went ahead and made a purchase. The car arrived today and we noticed more than three imperfections (chips) as well as a major fact hidden by Carvana, which is about the front left side bumper being damaged, which is clearly visible. The other issue is the tires on the front and back are from different brands (Dunlop in the rear and Bridgestone in the front). I also came across a summary of repairs that were kept on the car that mentioned the front left bumper being fixed and colored. The surprise is it was done at an odometer of 34,750. There are also a few dirty patches on the driver and 2nd row seats which were not shown by Carvana as imperfections. I don't understand why these details were not shown in the first place online and how they carried out the 150 point-inspections and missed those details. I have been struggling to find the email ID of the customer support team of Carvana to write. I hope those details were not purposely hidden.

Finally got plates and registration today, just 92 days after purchasing the car from these mokes.

Carvana's third-party vendor sat on the application as it wasn't received by DMV in my state (Minnesota) until 12/2.

Convenient but always an issue with the vehicle

The first vehicle I received looked great until I got it on the road. It shook at 60 mph, and once we reached our destination, THREE lug nuts were missing. So traded it. The second one, which I love, all of a sudden had mechanical issues. I've never been so displeased with a car.

Update

Carvana eventually reimbursed me $200, although the week of arguing about it still leaves a bad taste. I honestly think the biggest problem with these online companies is actually reaching someone with the authority to say "yes".

Pep Boys refunded the remainder after proving they totally lied about the extent of the repair performed and the parts replaced.

Bad car deal

They are shady after a week of waiting to get my delivery date. 2 days before set delivery I was informed the car had been sold to someone else. Still waiting to get my money back.

Bad Brakes

Though I really loved the car buying process and the price they gave me for my trade in, I purchased a Nissan Pathfinder from Carvana and after driving it for a few days, noticed the brakes locking up on making the car extremely unsafe to drive. It's in the shop right now and Carvana says that they'll pay for the repairs. However, the fact they sold me a car with an obviously defective brakes is of big concern to me and feel like I purchased a lemon rather than a peach.

Excuse after Excuse

Where do I start? How about that I know 2 people that bought a car from Carvana and didn't have to go through the ringer like I did. So I'm only 20 years old and I make well over 50k a year. I work 3 jobs and I'm a full time student; online. So like anyone else, I picked a car and started the process. I submitted all documents as asked. Once I submitted all required forms I received a phone call from Carvana. The lady on the call told me that they verified my insurance and my license, however, they couldn't verify my income. I was taken back by the statement. What do you mean you can't verify? You have 2 check stubs as asked. She told me she needed to call an office phone. I told her my supervisor doesn't have an office phone, he's mobile. He travels from store to store and has a company cellular phone. She said we have to speak with him on an office phone.

So at that point I was like, I'm guessing she went deaf when I said he has a company cell phone. He doesn't work in a direct office​. After I got that through, I had to get her to understand that my company is very confidential when it comes to pay. She was not hearing it. She basically tried to tell me what is done, as if she works there. Hmph! Anyway, so she took down his name and number. She called him on a Sunday when no one for our company is working. However, she was able to reach him, keeping in mind it is a company cell phone which he's able to use at anytime. So she was able to verify the information that was needed. Hours later I gave a call back to get an update and the lady says we have to verify your employment. Again, I'm confused. I ask didn't my Manager do that? She basically says that his verification wasn't good enough.

At the moment I was so over Carvana. I called them back and just cancelled the purchase because I didn't expect such a big hassle. I was telling so many of my peers and family about Carvana they was considering it. Unfortunately, I will not let them have to go through the same. I'll tell them it's easier to use a local dealership. For anyone reading this I suggest you use a local dealership.

Our Underwriting team is responsible for verifying all required documents before a loan can be approved. Through this process, one of the steps involved is to verify employment. Per our underwriting guidelines, the employment verification needs to be done on a company landline phone. Our employment verification consists of verifying the start date, hours worked as well as the annual income. In conjunction with an employment verification, we would then request 3 months of bank statements showing the direct deposits into your checking account if applicable.

Misleading and not informative!

I knew it was to good to be true. I got financed through Carvana. I picked the vehicle that I thought would work for me, and sent in all the information that Carvana would need to purchase the vehicle. Then, since no one had reached out to me, I decided to reach out them, but only to find out that I would have to have insurance on the vehicle that I'm test driving, and need have my down payment within 24 hours of delivery! I knew right then that it's a scam. Nowhere does it say this on their website, even when it congratulates you on purchasing the vehicle.

So now I'm going to have to change my bank account number first thing in the morning, it was a good thing I didn't request to take a day off from work. Oh and there was another thing that made me wonder, which was that they have an underwriter that will review my purchase. So that mean the down payment, monthly payment, and finance charges may not be what it says on the website! I am very disappointed, and told my friends and co worker about this website. It's a scam.

As a part of our underwriting process, we require that our customer’s send us their current proof of insurance so we can confirm they are covered. In the event that our customer does not have insurance, we do require they reach out to an insurance company to obtain a quote for the vehicle they are interested in purchasing. Our customers are then required to show valid proof of insurance at the time of delivery showing our vehicle has been added. The reason for this is to ensure our collateral is protected during the 7-day test drive period.

We process the down payment through an automatic clearing house (ACH) withdrawal. Because this is a part of our purchase process, we confirm funds by doing a three way call with the customer and their bank to ensure the funds are available prior to delivery. Additionally, we have made every attempt to ensure that the expectations for the funds verification process are clearly stated on our website, which our customers will find on the funds verification screen: “For your security, we do not store your account information and will request it again during our verification process”. Once the vehicle is delivered to the customer and they choose to accept the vehicle, the funds are then submitted. We do not withdraw any money from our customer’s account until the vehicle delivers.
