Not what I wanted

By Robyn G., Florida, Verified Reviewer

I think the Noom folks probably have the best intentions, and I don't want to bash them for their efforts, but this program did not work for me. I am a 60-year-old woman who had a hysterectomy and gained 10 pounds in a year. I had hoped Noom would help me shed that weight and more. I stayed on the prescribed calorie intake for 6 weeks - I did more steps than required too - zero weight loss. I didn't like being part of the group chat - that did nothing for me. And I don't have time to sit and read all the info that was required daily. I know 90% of that stuff.

My doctor asked me to stop the program because the calorie level was far too low. He switched me over to more of a Keto diet, and I have finally achieved the weight loss. No diet plan works for everyone, but I would think long and hard before I would suggest a friend try the Noom approach.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good content, but the program overall wasn’t a good fit, and I wasn’t impressed with the coaching

By Melissa C., Philadelphia, PA, Verified Reviewer

For me, there was too much content, and a lot of it seemed to be repetitive, although I think this may have had a lot to do with the "conversational" writing style, which became grating after a while. I got bored with the approach, so it was very difficult to stay interested in reading the articles.

My "personal" coach did nothing for me. She seemed to be checking in and asking the questions she was supposed to, but I didn’t feel like she gave me any personalized advice or paid much attention to the goals I set for myself - it felt more like generic cheerleading. I was a little jealous when I saw others raving about their coaches in the member chats!

I liked the food logging system, but was frustrated that any new items I added weren’t counted against my daily intake (because they weren’t in the Noom database).

The content itself seemed instructive and accurate, I just couldn’t get into the program.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Cancel before the trial is up

By Kim S., New Jersey, Verified Reviewer

Unless you are 100% satisfied during your 14-day trial, CANCEL BY DAY 12. On the advice of an acquaintance I waited to get a coach and a support group. HUGE MISTAKE as now I'm paying $80 (it was a podcast code/discount) for something that just isn't for me.

I'm old school. I like paper and pens, the ability to take notes, the ability to review where I've been, make updates, etc. There are so many acronyms for too many different goals, and they make it really difficult to go back and review what you've answered previously. There is no way to print out what you've done, except to take screencaps and print them out. And since most pages require you to scroll it's a total waste.

My first goal "specialist" felt like I was conversing with a bot. That should have been my first clue that this is not worth it, not even at the deep discount. I struggled with my first goal, but rather than walk me through it, she was randomly high-fiving my daily weigh-ins.

The app doesn't care if you're Keto, NSNG, Whole 30, or any other program that is low-carb. The foods you like to eat will be in the "red zone" and I don't care what they say, we all know red = stop/bad.

If you want to log your food and weigh yourself every day, there are plenty of free apps out there. Don't bother with this past the 14-day free trial.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Terrible experience

By Brenda H., Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

I signed up for the $10 trial. I never used it, next thing I know I have a $99 charge pending on my credit card. I contacted Noom, which was not easy. No phone number to call where you can talk to a person, recording only. I had my credit card company dispute the charge, but Noom will not let it go. So, now I'm in a wrangle with them over this going back and forth. I have to submit documents, etc. to my credit card company to try and get reimbursed. A huge hassle. Beware of Noom!

I've been a lifetime diet person...

By Kimberly L., Madison, WI, Verified Reviewer

I've been dieting my whole life and will always have a mixed relationship with food. Noom taught me an incredible amount: about nutrition, about exercise, and about the relationship (psychology-wise) with food.

I definitely learned things about myself that I didn't expect, more than I thought I already knew, and I thought I knew everything, about weight loss. I'm now more in control, feeling accountable to the one person that matters most (myself). Most importantly I don't feel like I'm dieting - I'm changing my relationship with food (which is what really needed to happen all along, about a dozen diets ago!).

Really recommend it - it's worth the leap of faith.

Horrible service and scam

By Yasmine A., California, Verified Reviewer

This app, which started with a free month, was total garbage. The specialist response time was terrible, it the content was useless, I don’t even know if it's actual coaches or a bot. To make things worse after I canceled my account and deleted the app, they charged me for months, and when I contacted the company about it, they were not helpful, and I had to had to have my bank process it as a disputed charge. Don't sign up for this service, it's a scam!

Not value for money

By Diane M., Bulgaria, Verified Reviewer

This company is not upfront with its charges. It is supposed to be a 14-day trial, which is not made clear when joining. This was taken from my PayPal after only a week. Contact with your coach needs to be initiated by you; when I didn’t message her, there was no reminder or motivational message from her.

Regarding course content and value for money, I think it is very expensive, you wouldn’t pay this much to join a gym. And most of the recipes and other information on nutrition can be found on the internet. They have no refund policy after 14 days. However, they did make an exception in my case.

Useless without an app

By Steph P., United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

Do not sign up for this if you have an old type mobile that is just a phone or a PC that does not support apps. The only way I can cancel is if you get on the app, and I can't. Having to get hold of my card company instead. They are really bad at communication too.

''If you decide Noom is right for you, on 2018-08-14 you will be charged one payment of £79 for your 2 month Noom membership (£39.50/month).

Noom will automatically charge your card £79 every 2 months so you don't lose access to your account. No refunds or credits for partial months. To cancel, simply let your coach know."

BUT what if you can't!

Not for me

By Joni S., Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

I tried Noom on a trial basis for 14 days. I just never could settle in with it. I did log all my food, and I logged my exercise and read all the articles they send you every day. I did have a Noom coach but I only heard from her a couple of times, and I never did become part of one of the Noom groups because I guess I was on the trial.

I decided that I can get everything Noom offers using MyFitnessPal and keeping a journal. I'm sure there are groups I can join that will help keep me motivated. I just didn't think it was worth paying for.

A great way to waste a dollar

By Jessica S., Raleigh, NC, Verified Reviewer

Well, it's day four of my "14-day $1 trial" that required I put my credit info in so that, after the trial, I could be charged for the monthly fee. This might be okay if I could ACCESS the actual app! So much about their form and reg system is buggy - weird formats required that you only figure out after trial and error. My password that I used at sign in (and that I know I used in sign in as I use a password saver) now no longer works and I have never been able to log in via the app. I've contacted support numerous times to no avail and, because of this, can't cancel the subscription charge that will undoubtedly go through before I can even TRY the app itself. I am really hoping I only lose the $1 from the trial instead of paying $50 for literally nothing.

Big time ripoff

By Terri W., Washington, Verified Reviewer

Anyone reading this, DO NOT do this! There are hidden costs not showing until after you have paid one thing and then they show you pay for the rest of your days. Please, do not do this, and if you do, good luck getting back any money. I am still fighting this one.
