Set up to deny you help if you want to cancel

By Cynthia B., Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I signed up for the trial and then a family situation came up in my life that took all my energy and time. I was one day over the trial period and tried unsuccessfully to contact anyone. They simply responded four days later to my message that it was canceled but my charge of $159 would run through the current payment cycle. It said it was a system-generated response that canceled. I see others say that they charge again even if you cancel.

Do not sign up unless you are very sure or nothing comes up that makes you not able to participate (i.e., death) because they have no human beings to help you. It is a money grab scam. I wish I had known. I have no faith in companies that do this - it is set up to ensure they make a maximum profit whatever the circumstances. Very poor and suspect business practices!

Not at all what I expected

By Joanne O., New Jersey, Verified Reviewer

I expected that a "custom program" was going to give me a meal plan and do more than help me count my steps each day.

I am a busy professional, with no time to join in on mindless chatter. All too soon, I became disenchanted, stopped counting meals, and endless logging.

Perhaps it's me, but I thought this program was different than it actually played out to be.

Not worth the very high price

By Jessica C., California, Verified Reviewer

If you were raised with any concept of what healthy eating and/or are remotely physically fit, this app is NOT FOR YOU. In fact, if you passed a basic nutrition and/or gym class in high school, you probably know everything the program will tell you already. Furthermore, there is zero attention paid to what foods are actually nutritious and nurturing your body. You'll totally win on the app (and I'm sure lose weight too) if you eat nothing but iceberg lettuce and watermelon, but you won't be healthy. If walking around the block is a stretch for you, then yes, this program may help, but again, if you know anything about health you'll find it ridiculous. Their claim it is "personalized" is total BS, and the "coaches" are little more than cheerleaders who occasionally copy and paste a generic platitude into your chat. VERY expensive for how basic it is - you would do better with one of the free meal tracking apps.

Red food category NOT motivating

By Paulette B., Pennsylvania, Verified Reviewer

I am an avid exerciser and have watched and tracked my calories for years. I have been trying to lose those pesky last 5 - 10 pounds for years as well. I believe I eat very well, it's the weekends that are my issue. Noom has a red category for foods which one should limit, however, I feel this is much too low. And it does not increase even if you exercise...even if you exercise ALOT! So, in a typical day, I may have ONE TBSP of Olive oil for my salad, ONE (140-calorie) Yogurt, and SIX Triscuits, and I am over the amount on the RED category! I could run a marathon and I am still only allowed 300 RED food calories. I don't often go over my TOTAL calorie limit, but ALWAYS go over in the red category. This makes the Noom program unsustainable.

No customer service

By Christy C., Austin, TX, Verified Reviewer

I'm pretty frustrated. Humans do not exist at this company. That includes customer service. They don't even bother to have a customer service team - or even a person - and all I can get on the app at best is a chatbot. Non-refundable, not possible to start back at the beginning, once you fall off the program because you're incapacitated or off the grid on vacation you just lose. You can never catch up. And no one will help. There is no one I can find to help.

Good but flawed

By David R., California, Verified Reviewer

While the folks at Noom seem to know a lot about the psychology of eating, they don't know a lot about the psychology of education. They give a lot of information with no way to say STOP! Let me digest this before you force-feed me the next stuff! And the biggest problem with giving so many different steps and strategies and seemingly "must do" items is that it gives you an excuse to fail - to hear a friend tell it. I've lost 60 pounds over 5 months, she hasn't budged the scale a bit. But she says, "I've done A, B, and C but not D, J and Q, so I'm a failure, and that's why I'm not losing weight." So the idea that it's "personalized" is really a crock - it's not. Two people starting at the same time get the same articles, no way to pause so that you can work on things one step at a time. "Let me get used to weighing myself every day." "Let me just weigh myself and track my calories before you tell me that I'm not eating mindfully enough and that's my problem." While they're trying to teach you lifestyle changes, they're trying to change things you've learned over 40 years in a day. Nope. Would I recommend it to others? Yes. With caveats. HUGE caveats.

Noom

By Cheryl J., Adelaide, Australia, Verified Reviewer

I'm afraid I did not have a positive experience. My Specialist rarely contacted and when he be did the comments and replies were automated. There was no followup or advice given. I was not even given a group. Don't waste your money!

Save your money

By Charles M., Pflugerville, TX, Verified Reviewer

Please save your time and money by not joining this diet program as you can find many free apps on the internet that will do the same things as this company makes you pay for. Also, their fraudulent refund program policies make this a company that you want to avoid. There is a class action lawsuit being initiated against them for their company policies.

It clicked with me

By Gillian W., Berkshire, England, Verified Reviewer

I love Noom. By getting underneath the weird way the brain works in relation to food and the choices I make, I can rationalize much more and think "ah this is my elephant at work" or "behavior chain." "Thought distortion" or whatever and that helps me not to overreact, feel a failure and throw in the towel as I have done previously. The scale (scan) anxiety piece, for example, was so helpful at the very start and made me actually weigh myself for the first time in two years; and just by doing this I got to grip with the extent of my challenge rather than avoiding and kidding myself. Now I chip away pound by pound.

The info is there at your fingertips and there is a LOT of information each day. I've learned now to skim through info in the morning, save in my library and ready properly later when I've got more time. Logging is easy, although UK food lists are more limited. I understand that is building and it's easy to add by calories.

Personally, I'm not great at group chats, etc. (is that a generational thing?), but I'm always interested in what others are experiencing and occasionally contribute. Helpful to be accountable to a coach weekly as well so you can plan the following week and identify what your focus will be.

So all in all, 9 lbs down in 6 weeks and it's going well!

Wow, this WORKS!

By Danielle F., Verified Reviewer

Ok, so I've tried everything under the sun from mail order premade meals to "magic pills" to dozens of workout programs, and nothing has worked. THIS works! And a majority aren't realistically sustainable.

But Noom is not a diet, it really is a change of lifestyle. It makes sense, there are no "off-limit" foods, and this is the first time I've been able to stick with something and see results!

It's NOT overnight changes, but it's sustainable, and therefore I don't have to worry about gaining back any pounds or inches I lose, because it's not a diet. I've managed to lose about 6 lbs in the first month, and I'm excited to keep with this because I know I'm building better habits.

I'm not relying on someone else's pre-measured food (and therefore not learning how to make healthy choices and meals on my own) and I'm not wasting money on all of the "lose weight fast" gimmicks (pills, workout programs) that inundate TV.

I just can't say enough about this program!

Excellent results

By Deanna G., Castro Valley, CA, Verified Reviewer

With Noom I have lost more weight than any other weight loss site. They change your thinking about food and exercise. It takes away the guesswork of navigating menus. It also teaches you to weigh in at the same time every day. There is individual and group accountability.
