Horrible service - fraudulent practices!

By Ev P., New Cambria, MO, Verified Reviewer

I signed up for the $59 monthly fee, they took out $159. I could not find a phone number so I emailed my coach as that was the only way I could contact someone. They gave me the support email and I emailed them. Guess what, no refunds! I would have settled for a return of the $100 and to keep paying the $59 monthly fee. But they don't give refunds. So I decided to cancel my automatic renewal and guess what? They just took another $159. Looks like legal action will be taken!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Dissatisfied with customer service and coaches

By Abby S., Los Angeles, CA, Verified Reviewer

I did not like their program, the coaches weren't really available. When I decided to cancel, Noom confirmed in WRITING that my account was canceled. Four months later, still being charged for a service I did not use. IT WAS NOT canceled, and now they aren't taking responsibility. They are happier taking my money. And awful customer service. Just awful.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It is NOT a personal program but it has some perks

By Renae' Turnbaugh, Friendswood, TX, Verified Reviewer

I am like a lot of people and have been thinking of trying an online diet/nutrition program for a while. Noom seemed to have what I wanted and offered add-on services of a personally-designed meal and workout plan.

I dived right in with the program. I also paid the additional $69 for the personal meal and workout plan.

The app is great! It allows me to weigh in each day, tracks my steps (only when I have my phone) and log my meals. All of these things are what set Noom apart from other apps. YEAH!

The meal and workout plans were another story. They are very generic and were not personalized to me at all. They did not give me anything more than I could pull from the internet. They did not give me meal plans, as I would hope. So, save your money and excitement.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Greatly disappointed

By Judy Hill, New Mexico, Verified Reviewer

I signed up knowing (and announcing) that I have an autoimmune disease, was facing surgery, and was at the time out of the country. I immediately began receiving group notifications from the "coach," who didn't know anything about SLE or my physical limitations. There was some confusion about "online" versus "app" usage; I'd thought there was an online aspect, only to learn that everything's on the phone app. That's not really convenient for me.

Following my surgery, which was over a month ago, I've yet to receive any communication from the "coach," and nothing on the app is customized for me. Yes, I've lost nearly 10 lbs, but that's from the surgery (hiatal hernia repair), and because I'm not yet back to a full normal diet, so I'm taking in far fewer calories.

I'm very disappointed, the "calorie recommendation" and "exercise recommendations" are very cookie-cutter, and have nothing to do with my allergies, food sensitivities, lifestyle, or age. And not one word from the "coach." I'm now looking to cancel the membership.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

No personal experience

By Deborah Archer, Virginia, Verified Reviewer

I'm on day four of Noom, and all I've received are platitudes. I can get these for free on Facebook.

The pedometer doesn't work well. It doesn't log steps on circular stairs, for instance, and I have 43 stairs I used multiple times every day. The calorie counts are suspect, too, though fairly easy to use.

I've tried canceling, but still no interaction. At least I'm not paying for it, yet.

Okay, but not worth the price tag

By Bella H, Pennsylvania, Verified Reviewer

I did the free trial of Noom and did find the food tracker and self-help articles to be good. I lost 3 lbs, which felt like a success. I really like the caloric density model of food logging, and it helped to never feel deprived.

However, I didn’t continue after the trial because the goal specialist wasn’t anything special. As other people have said, I never knew when she would be available, I waited hours or days to get a response, she didn’t provide any actual advice, and I too wondered if she was a bot. The few messages I got were very cut-and-paste, which makes me think these coaches have way too many clients each.

The most disappointing: I noted in my survey on day one and in a message to my coach that I have an injury that means I can’t exercise for a few weeks. There was no personalization for this (I had a step goal to reach with a broken toe!), and my coach took days to get back to me. For $59 a month, I’d need a lot more one-on-one, personalized contact.

I’d recommend paying that to see an in-person nutritionist or fitness trainer once a month to help you develop real goals that are custom to your actual life.

Promotes stigma

By Christy K., Minnesota, Verified Reviewer

The program says it's based in psychology, yet they call emotions "irrational." This is like telling a person who broke their leg that the pain is irrational. Emotions are a guide to what is going on. They are neither good nor bad, and certainly not irrational. It's what we choose to DO in response that can be good or bad. A program that is supposed to be based in psychology would not dismiss and minimize emotions. Understanding why we eat emotionally and choosing a different path, and encouragement to look at our emotions and what they are signaling makes more sense psychologically speaking.

Not at all happy

By Barbara R., Kentucky, Verified Reviewer

I got the trial and was not impressed, they already took $99.00 out of my account that I guess I will never see again. I did manage to get it canceled, I hope. I will let you know if they take ANOTHER $99.00 out. I am very disgusted, and it is impossible to get someone on a phone because they have a number that is a recording. Don't buy!

Not as advertised - Poor customer service.

By Veronica B., Wisconsin, Verified Reviewer

As many others have said, the "goal coaching" is not specialized at all. During my 14-day trial, the Goal Specialist reached out twice with a generic message. They have a "message" section of the app but if you send anything they’re unresponsive. Only when I wanted to cancel did anyone contact me. They offered a significantly lower price to renew, which was nice but I still wanted to put the subscription on hold for a while. Again, they didn’t respond to my messages and charged me right on schedule. Then they sent another generic message stating no refunds. Seems like a scam...they just want any amount of money they can get from you and don’t care if what they advertise matches what you’re getting. Horrible customer experience. They send surveys so hopefully, they’re taking the feedback to make improvements.

Need a refund

By Jill S., San Francisco, CA, Verified Reviewer

Not giving a notice that you're about to auto-renew and then charging me $99 and not allowing a refund is terrible customer service. It’s scammy, be a solid company and treat your customers well. Please process my refund.

Subscription is "shady"

By Dana D., Minneapolis, MN, Verified Reviewer

I tried Noom like I do with all my other good intentions with health and weight loss. I figure that I could just cancel after 14 days if I didn’t like it. I didn’t like it any more than the other apps I use (MyFitnessPal, Beachbody). It was harder to log food and took up quite a bit of time with their questionnaires and spoon fed motivation.

What really sealed the deal and inspired me to leave this review as a warning is the difficulty I encountered to manage and ultimately cancel my subscription. I have read a lot of reviews and noticed people who try Noom are paying all kinds of different prices. I was only given one option, which was to pay $99 every two months (for what they are offering this is super expensive in my opinion). I’ve read where people are paying half that amount ($49 every two months) or I’ve seen $129 for two months.

Besides that, when my subscription was set to renew, I never received an email or message to let me know that was going to happen. My PayPal was charged without a warning. Super annoying. Finally, when I wanted to cancel, there is no place in your account to cancel. You actually have to submit a request with your coach to quit. The coach didn’t get back to me right away, and I had to explain myself. I found that uncomfortable and super inconvenient. I felt like I should have been able to decide when and how I cancel my subscription.
