Decent brush - phenomenal customer service!

By Quinn, Washington, DC, Verified Reviewer

I'm on my third Quip. I've really struggled with replacing the toothbrush head. Each time, it fails to stay on. That said, within a couple of hours of putting in a ticket, the customer service team asked for photos, which I sent, and then within a day or two, a full new toothbrush was sent out to me. Of course, ideally, I wouldn't need to keep replacing it, but I'm also happy to support a start up, especially with fast, friendly responses. I'm hoping they can keep plugging along and solving the issue I'm having.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Don't waste your money

By Jason Beaton, New Hampshire, Verified Reviewer

The fact that I spent money on this toothbrush is embarrassing. I fell for the hype. After two months of use, not only have I not seen any benefit, but my dentist has asked me to switch back to the brush I was using before.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Sep 24, 2017

Hi Jason,

We are sorry to hear Quip wasn't for you, although we can assure you that the Quip toothbrush would not have been the cause of any dental deterioration (especially if you only used it for 2 months between your 6-12 month visits, of which your previous brush would have been used for the majority). Dental issues can take 6-12 months to form/show, and toothbrushes aren't usually able to reverse any problems that have begun (hence the need for regular dental checkups) so it's hard to know what might have caused this.

As the ADA will tell you, toothbrushes are a key tool to help your daily brushing, but they themselves (whatever modes, price, power or design) do not vary in effectiveness. It is how they make you brush that drives effectiveness, so the best brush for you comes down to personal preference, comfort and how well a brush allows you to practice good technique, routine, and upkeep.

It is true that people tend to brush better with an electric toothbrush because of the movements encouraging slower, softer, and tooth-by-tooth technique. The timer guides a full, clean and fresher after brush feeling, it encourages a twice-daily routine. All brushes (including manual) should be used about the same way (tooth by tooth, gentle movement around gum line) and will give the same clean.

It sounds like, contrary to the design of Quip and the results it has given so many others in their checkups, Quips technique and routine guiding features could have for some reason driven you to brush worse. We would be interested in hearing from you on help@getquip.com to hear how using Quip changed your habits for the worse so we can help you out from our end.

But again, the best brush for you comes down to personal preference and we are sorry Quip was not yours, and even more sorry to hear you had a bad checkup!

Quip - OK product, terrible customer service

By Andrew K., Oklahoma, Verified Reviewer

Quip toothbrushes are an OK product. However, their customer service is atrocious, and I would not recommend using their service unless you want headaches!

I rate companies based on how they treat customers. If they are unwilling to fix small errors for small amounts of money (in my case an error of $5), then I have no faith they will fix larger errors without issue or resolve a problem when it arises in the future. In other words, $5 is meaningless to me except for what it says about the company overall who was unwilling to "make it right" for me as well as their advertising partner. This leads me to believe they have more deeply rooted issues and cannot recommend them.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We are sorry to hear you were unsatisfied with your Quip experience. We believe that we were able to locate your case, which appears to have been in regards to a coupon. Unfortunately, we are not able to retroactively apply outside offers on our end, as these can only be applied through checkout. When applying a coupon, you will see a green banner at the top of your purchase page which will notify you if this was a valid offer or not. Our team is also always happy to help with any questions when placing your order.

We sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding and can help with any additional questions at help@getquip.com.

Not the "clean" I was hoping for.

By Mandi B., Ohio, Verified Reviewer

Quip promises "Bristles with just the right amount of sonic vibrations and guiding pulses to help simplify better brushing. No excessive power or unnecessary modes, just what the dentist ordered for a wholesome two minute clean."

While the physical design of the toothbrush is sleek and compact, the mechanical design fails miserably. Upon using my toothbrush the first time, I noticed that all of the vibrations were taking place in the hand holding the brush, not in the brush head. This lead to me finding myself brushing harder in order to feel like my teeth were clean.

After years of using a Sonicare toothbrush, as well as eight years in the dental field myself, I give the actual cleaning mechanism of the toothbrush a solid "F." I saved my opinion on Quip to see what my husband thought, as we ordered the two-pack. Without knowing my opinion and thoughts, he shared with me the same opinion. All of the vibrations were in his hand, not in the brush head, and he felt it wasn’t worth the cost if he was just "brushing like it was a normal toothbrush."

Quip needs to go back to the lab and redesign the mechanics of their toothbrush.

We are sorry to hear that you and your husband didn't enjoy your Quip! Quip uses the same sonic vibrations as most other electric toothbrushes set to a sensitive mode to provide a thorough, yet non-damaging clean that's still gentle on the gums. The vibrations are sent directly to your bristles if you're holding your brush properly (with the points of your fingers, like a paintbrush). The truth is, as the American Dental Association and Consumer Reports say, any electric toothbrush will clean your teeth just the same if you're brushing properly. That's why we created Quip, to help guide the habits that matter. Quip has earned the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance for safety and efficacy in removing plaque and gingivitis, so there will be no difference in the way that Quip brushes your teeth versus another electric or even a manual) if you're brushing properly. We hope this explains why Quip vibrates the way it does and we thank you for giving us a try.

Not an electric toothbrush

By Tim P., Simpsonville, SC, Verified Reviewer

So my wife bought two and gave me one even though I use a Sonicare toothbrush. First, the Sonicare was recommended by my dentist and I have had great results over manual brushing. A lot less staining and overall cleaning. And then I tried the Quip but was shocked that is kind of hums, but the brushes do not move. I really don't see the point. If you are a manual user stick with that or get a Quip that has a timer function. If you want an electric toothbrush that works, try Sonicare.

Worst customer service ever!

By Anne O., St. Louis, MO, Verified Reviewer

I ordered a toothbrush off of the website with Quip. A free trial sample of the toothpaste was supposed to be included. My niece helped me place the order, so I’m not quite sure what website we were on, I assumed it was the Quip website.

I didn’t get the sample of toothpaste and I sent them a message and let them know. Many emails later they’ve decided that no samples be given. They would rather lose the business with the ongoing subscription for 2/3 then send a sample of toothpaste.

I don’t understand that they would rather lose a customer then send a sample of toothpaste. I have found similar products online, and I will be purchasing that and returning this.

They said back to me that they have never offered a free sample of toothpaste, and maybe that’s the case I am not quite sure, but after eight emails you would think that it would’ve just been easier to send a lousy sample. And keep a satisfied customer who would be buying their brush heads forever.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hi Anne,

We apologize if there has been any misunderstanding while ordering. The only packages that will include a free travel toothpaste are the packages that include a large toothpaste as well. Any set that includes toothpaste will also be shown with these items in the store image. Clicking on the question mark next to any package will also include a full description of what is included on day one and in three months time (if ordering a plan). We hope this helps!

Toothpaste is "interesting"

By Pebble K., Damariscotta, ME, Verified Reviewer

I have never used an electric toothbrush so I have nothing to compare the Quip with. I am having trouble trying to figure out how to use it properly. Maybe there should be a short video for us newbies. Also, since I have just started using this, I have not experienced any of the problems I have been reading about and hope that I won't have any. I really like it. EXCEPT for the toothpaste.

This stuff is weird. I will be blunt, there is a strong undertone of goat. I'm sure there are no animal parts but maybe "essence." I had a blind taste test with my adult daughter and she was immediately turned off. This flavor does not offend me, but I thought you needed to know it is very noticeable.

Do not buy

By Michael G., New Jersey, Verified Reviewer

The product simply does not hold up! And the replacement process is a burden on the customer, I purchased two and both did not last a year. Now I have to continue with this subscription and cannot use the product. Customer support did not help at all.

Hi Michael,

We are sorry to hear you have had some trouble with your Quip! Our team does their best to troubleshoot the issue to come up with the best solution, as we have found that most often, we can help with getting your Quip up and running again.

In the off chance that the troubleshooting does not help, we ask for a few quick photos so that we can send you the correct replacement needed to get your Quip working without needing to send your brush back first for the replacement. If you would prefer not to send any photos, we do have the option to send your Quip back using our prepaid return label, and we can assist with a replacement once your Quip is in transit back to us.

We take these issues very seriously and always want to make sure that we address the trouble you are having correctly so that you do not experience the same issue again in the future. Additionally, you can easily cancel your subscription in your profile on our website, but this will discontinue your warranty.

If you'd like to give your Quip another try, please email help@getquip.com, and our team would be happy to assist further!

Broken in three months

Waste of money. It broke after three months, but I already prepaid for the 12 months of brush heads.

Hi Celesy!

Did you email help@getquip.com when you had an issue with your brush? If your brush broke at three months, it sounds like you may have had an issue when replacing (as the brush head should be replaced at three months with the refill you receive).

Either way, your brush is covered for life! So please do email us so we can help you out :).

Awful

Don't buy; it is a waste of money! Not at all like a Sonicare. Cleans teeth like a regular brush.

Hi again, Eric! We are sorry that our website, the booklet that came with your brush, and our subsequent email exchanges around this subject we were not able to clear up any misunderstandings about Quip's approach, and what affects your oral health.

As we explained in those email exchanges, the reason we built Quip was to help battle the damaging misunderstanding that electric toothbrushes, and more specifically, the power mode they are set to will magically clean your teeth far better than regular toothbrushes. We also want to battle the misconception that electric brushes particularly, the one you mention should be used differently to a regular toothbrush (as per their product manual and our manual, they shouldn't).

The quality of "clean" your toothbrush gives you is wholly dependent on how you use it. The truth is, a regular (manual) brush is just as capable of "cleaning" as the most super-powered, expensive electric toothbrush when used well. The issue is that most people don't use them well, and electric brushes help guide better usage and harbor good habits (encourage softer, tooth by tooth brushing for a full two minutes)

The things that ensure a better clean; brushing gently, going tooth by tooth, wiggling the bristles around the gum line, for two full minutes twice a day, changing your brush head every three months, and visiting the dentist every six months. These habits have a fundamental effect on oral health (whether your brush is set to "sensitive" like Quip or "ultra" like yours). If followed, you can attain a perfectly clean teeth whatever you use. The problem is, the majority get several of the above wrong.

We simply built Quip to focus on these important habits, and not make our members believe that by simply owning electric toothbrushes, excuse the need to brush well. We want to guide, inspire and automate healthy habits, and improve oral health.

With all of the above said, personal preference is everything in a toothbrush. If aggressive vibrations and horsepower are things that inspire you to brush well, then your Sonicare is the right brush for you! For many others, they would prefer the same guidance in the form of a more simple, quiet, comfortable and easy to live with a product like a quip.

I'm sorry that Quip was not for you, but I'm happy to see our help team were able to assist you with your return that was within your 30-day trial period.

Fantastic experience!

By Susan May, Virginia, Verified Reviewer

I have used the Quip Toothbrush product for over two years now, and I continue to LOVE the product. When the upgraded design was sent to me (free of charge) I was impressed with the much-improved ease of use, and the replacement features.

I feel as though I now have a "relationship" with my oral hygiene routine. Like clockwork, every three months, there is my new toothbrush order in the mailbox, ready to be switched out for the old one. Each time I am amazed at how quickly the three months have elapsed. It proves to me that in the past I have never replaced my toothbrush in a timely manner.

The toothpaste provided is great tasting, and I love the travel sized toothpaste, too! I am extremely pleased with Quip!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
