Horrible food and money scam

By Veronica Mathis, New Jersey, Verified Reviewer

Firstly, the cancellation process is not easy. You can't cancel online. You have to call them, and if you cancel before the second delivery, you are back charged a $125 auto-delivery discount from your first order. I was not aware of this discount when I ordered. The rep didn't mention this when I placed my order by phone.

Next, the food was so horrible and bland I can't take another order, even if I wanted to avoid the back charge of $125. I threw the box of food in the dumpster after trying many of the meals. The food looks and tastes horrible.

I am not new to diet plans or delivery diet plans like Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem. This is the worst diet plan I've ever tried. I lost 16 lbs on my own so far in 2018 without this gimmick. I learned an expensive lesson by ordering this and wasting my money. I returned to the basics of eating healthy foods, counting calories and drinking lots of H20.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

BAD NEWS DIET

By Johna, Culver City, CA, Verified Reviewer

Agree with the reviews about the company not telling you that you have signed up for auto delivery and then when you try and cancel, they charge you. It happened to us twice.

First this happened to us when I ordered for my husband and just wanted the one month. When we were sent a notice saying “your new shipment is on the way”, we called and found out we were set up for auto delivery and told them to cancel and found out there is a cancellation fee.

After talking with a few people, they worked it that we would be charged $100, instead of $150 fee and the $100 charge would buy some lunches and a few snacks and then we would be canceled.

So, my kind mom decides she would surprise her son-in-law and called them and said she wanted to send a little more food, so South Beach restarted the auto delivery without saying boo to any of us. Meanwhile, my husband developed hives/welts all over him, even his palms.

The doctor said to stop eating the food. So, we still have food in the freezer.

Yesterday we received that fun notice that a new shipment was being sent! No joke, spent almost 1.5 hours on the phone and was transferred eight times, talked to the counseling department Customer service, program consultant, cancellation dept, etc.

I got to the point where I was yelling at them. Told them about the welts and luckily I had taken pictures. Finally, they agreed to a refund. Will never buy anything from these guys, ever.

Very disappointed

By Amy Hale, Clarksville, TN, Verified Reviewer

I was very excited to see that South Beach now had a prepared meal program, as I had had great success years prior when following the book. After visiting the site, I did notice that they noted that essentially six days worth of meals (for the entire month) would not be provided, in order to encourage individuals to learn healthy cooking for themselves. This caused me to hesitate, but ultimately I decided that six days out of a month was doable for me.

However, upon receiving the meals, I was very disappointed to find that on top of their prepared meals you have to purchase additional vegetables (from your local market) to complete the program. And, unless you are happy eating them raw (three to four times a day), you still have to cook. Lately, I am extremely busy so this is a huge drawback for me, as I purchased this mostly excited about the time I really needed to save on such things as cooking.

Since discovering this, I have been all over their website looking for a heads up to this little detail but have not found anything. So, I feel they are very misleading about the overall program. Also, I got suckered into the auto delivery program, like most of these reviews, but I can't get too upset about that since the details on that are spelled out within their terms and conditions policy. But still, its pretty slimy that they do not make that more clear and upfront to their customers initially.

So, if you are going to give this diet a shot, be warned that you have to spend more time and money than what they lead you to believe.

Don’t buy the food - disgusting tasting

By Elaine Barakett Thomas, Verified Reviewer

This has to be the worst tasting and most horrible looking food. We have to disguise the food and mix with cabbage and onions to cover up the taste. The smells are bad and nauseating. It looks nothing like the TV commercials or the box. Portions are very small and made with synthetic ingredients. If you look at box ingredients, most are not natural - you can’t pronounce half the ingredients. The meals are not healthy.

These people should be ashamed for selling this - there is no reason that they could not make something better tasting and better for you.

South Beach Diet rip-off

By Mike Futala, Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

In my opinion, the South Beach Diet program is a complete rip-off. I ordered their "special" at $12.14 a day total was $349 after tax I guess and today I got my delivery. It is absolute garbage. Tiny little packages of frozen food that doesn't even fit into one hand is supposed to be a breakfast. Boxes of shake mixes and candy bars. There a few mini frozen meals that are smaller than what you get in a grocery store for $3.39. Then I called and said please don't send any more orders and they told me ok if you cancel before an auto shipment we will bill you an penalty of $125! I paid over $500 for a box of junk food.

Please don't buy this terrible food. Diet-To-Go is much better; South Beach diet delivery food is a complete rip-off.

South Beach Diet customer service

By Lisa M., Queens, NY, Verified Reviewer

Unfortunately, I have had such a horrible experience with their customer service. As a first-time person signing up, everything was amazingly smooth. Then they ignore you. I was on hold for nearly an hour today once again, and the person still could not help me. I finally got smart and called on the line that said "first-time customer" and it was picked up immediately, and the girl is trying to help me with my situation.

I do not need this stress, and neither do you! I highly recommend you go somewhere else for your diet delivery products.

If you are looking for awful tasting food (that and is also expensive) and horrendous customer service, then this is the diet for you!

By Lindsay K., Florida, Verified Reviewer

If I could given the South Beach Diet a zero-star rating, I definitely would.

I have always been overweight (even when I was a competitive swimmer). I made it part of my New Year's resolution to try and lose weight and get to a healthy BMI. I researched a lot and found that the South Beach Diet had good reviews and seemed relatively easy to follow (especially with the food delivery as I work usually over 50 hours a weeks, which makes cooking hard). I was excited to get started although I wasn't thrilled with the price. It is about $375 per month and you still have to make six meals on your own so you are essentially spending over 400 a month on food (over $100 a week, which seems absurd).

I tried the food for two weeks, and found it be super processed and tasted unnatural. It was like eating plastic. The portion sizes are extremely small (especially compared to Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem, which are both handsomely larger). And they don't taste good. Nothing tasted good; not the shakes, snacks, meals, NOTHING. Which is one thing if you are seeing a result and losing weight, which I did not. I was extremely upset about this since I was following the diet religiously for a month and saw no progress on the scale. So, I was eating awful food and not seeing any results; not a great combo when paying an arm and a leg for it with guarantees that it will work (and quickly).

I decided that the South Beach Diet wasn't for me (obviously given the results). When I called to cancel (since you cannot do it online), the customer service agent kept asking why I wanted to cancel or what could be done to keep me. At this point, I wanted the South Beach Diet chapter of my life to close, with as little pain and annoyance as possible. I made it crystal clear that I just wanted to cancel my account and then the customer service agent informs me that he has to charge me an ADDITIONAL $125 to cancel my account. So, for a crappy month of meals, I got no weight change and an additional $125 out the door.

When I expressed my frustration and confusion over why they would be charging again (since they did not clearly state that was the cancellation policy), I was given an unsatisfactory response (it's Company Policy). I have never encountered such poor customer service. They do not care about their customers. The South Beach Diet company is a scam artist trying to suck all the money they can out of you! I felt like I was totally taken advantage of and like a schmuck, which is an awful feeling. I have no problem paying for something if I feel that it has that value. I do not like paying for something and feel that I am getting the rug pulled out from under me. I expressed those concerns to the agent as well as contacted the helpline hoping that they would have the decency to refund the cancellation fee (but to no avail). This is a horrible company with awful customer service. I cannot say it enough, it is a TOTAL SCAM!

If you want to spend a small fortune on crappy food with wishy-washy results and have to pay more when you want to leave and have to deal with a company that does not care about its customers at all, then this is for you.

Again, I cannot say it enough - DO NOT do the South Beach Diet, you will lose your money and reget it! I know if do.

South Beach Diet food tastes disgusting and a waste of money

By Linda B., Florida, Verified Reviewer

The South Beach Diet plan is too restrictive in Pase 1, and the food tastes HORRIBLE. I had a significant headache when I followed the program according to their instructions and knew I was hypoglycemic. I contacted the company requesting them not to send the next month's delivery and ended up arguing with the customer service rep who attempted to change my mind which further aggravated my headache. They have a hidden $125.00 charge for canceling your order, so it cost me $425.00 for a terrible experience, and I have a freezer filled with food that I'm going to trash. Stay away from this program!

The food is horrifying, the customer service is horrifying, stay away from this company

By Francine M., California, Verified Reviewer

I did the South Beach Diet plan when it first came out a couple of decades ago. It was TERRIFIC. I saw this new food program by South Beach and while I was skeptical of frozen food, I thought I would try it because I've been so busy, not cooking was a welcomed idea for a while.

What a mistake!

FOOD:

I am horrified by the items they call "food". I wrote a lengthy and thoughtful email three days into the South Beach Diet because of how disappointing and actually disgusting the three dinner meals I had were. And, the portion size is definitely not for an adult, even if you are losing weight. This is starvation. I explained that while I understand packaging images are often somewhat different than the actual product, the images in no way remotely represented what was provided. I took pictures of the box and placed the food item in the same picture. I took and sent it to South Beach. No one would be able to disagree with my assessment.

CUSTOMER SERVICE (if that's what they call it):

I also stated that I called "Customer Service" to cancel my next order and was informed that I would be charged $125 if I did so. I was again, appalled. The sales guy "Joe", told me it would be better if I ordered the $159 plan just so I didn't get penalized. I knew I wasn't going to get further with Joe, so I had him make the adjustment.

In the meantime, I then receive an email back thanking me for the email I sent and if I had any other issues, I should call. WHAT? After describing my displeasure, that's the reply? After showing them the quality of food they sent, THIS is how they treat people? NOW, I was pissed off.

This morning, I call and get "Anna". I tell Anna that I don't want to waste her time, and would like to speak with a manager or supervisor.

Anna: Can you tell me why?

Me: I briefly explained about my email, the response and that this is not acceptable and I'd like to speak with someone who is a supervisor.

Anna: Let me see if a supervisor wants to take your call. (I AM NOT KIDDING.)

I am put on hold. Anna returns.

Anna: We looked at your email and it appears there is no content in the email.

Me: What? If that's the case, you're telling me that customer service just sends out blanket statements without even reading the email. I would like to cancel my account and the next order.

Anna: The supervisor said I could cancel your order, so, my next order was canceled.

This is absolutely the worst experience I have had with a company in a very, very long time. The food quality is horrifying, the quantity is not meant for an adult female. Portion size is ridiculous. There is one package that apparently has a hamburger and it is less than the size of the palm of your hand. That is stunning.

Poor quality.

Poor customer service

Grade: F

There are plenty of options. Don't go this route.

Taste

By Kp, Astoria, NY, Verified Reviewer

I was so excited when I heard that South Beach Diet had food delivery. I have the book and used the recipes, which were very tasty.

What a disappointment. The food is pretty bad. I threw away the break eggs because I could not stomach them. There were only a few things that I could enjoy.

Don't waste your money. When I called and expressed my concern, they didn't seem to be concerned at all.

True review

By Nadia J Oliver, Clearwater, FL, Verified Reviewer

I am so glad that I have found South Beach Diet. They promised me to lose weight. Six weeks later, I lost 4 lbs.

I am tired of smelling the house like dog food every time I put one of their products in the microwave. My boyfriend runs outside because the whole house stinks. The worst diet plan that anyone that falls into by watching a stupid commercial on the television. It should not be called South Beach Diet. It should be called South End Diet because it could be the end of your life if you keep eating this food. And this is no joke.

Oh, and the snacks. Fat content against calories, and if you are watching your fat intake should be no more than a third. Ha ha ha, what a joke. Garbage, total garbage. It is probably cat and dog food mixed together. I want a total refund, and I want it now before a lawsuit follows.
