No customer service

By Timothy M., Decatur, IL, Verified Reviewer

Bought a car from Vroom and it was delivered with a bad battery that was venting fumes inside the car. I purchased a new battery the next day and even though I had a receipt showing the date I purchased it I was refused a refund because I was busy working and called them 1 day past the 7-day period. So I'm out $110.00.

Don't buy a car from Vroom!

I bought a vehicle from Vroom. It's been 2 months and no paperwork. Took a month to deliver car. They got my address wrong! I can't get a metal plate until I get my paperwork! BEWARE of rip-off Vroom! Don't waste your time or money with Vroom!

Stay away, zero communication after the sales!

By David L., Los Angeles, CA, Verified Reviewer

Took delivery of my car on 3/22/22, my temporary registration expired on 5/14/22, today is 5/23/22. I've been calling VROOM since late April, every time was told to wait for the registration paperwork.

On 5/10/22 I called and spoke to Alexis, explained to her my situation and frustration and she opened a case #01355042 and told me to wait for an email within 24–72 hours for a response.

A week went by with no email so I called on 5/17/22 and spoke to Dieto, who informed me that my paperwork was lost by FedEx and will re-FedEx me my registration documents, and also told me they will provide me a rental car, I need to wait for an email within 24–72 hours.

Still no emails as of 5/20/22 so I called again and spoke to Carbella who escalated this to a priority case (I guess prior to that my case is not a priority) and will receive a priority email in 24 hours.

Today 5/23/22, still no email and response, so I called to speak to Nelson who put me on hold and got disconnected (or maybe hung up on me). Called back and spoke to Auguo, who looked at the case and informed me he will make another priority request and I need to wait for 24–72 for a response. I demanded to talk to a supervisor or manager and was told a supervisor/manager doesn't take calls and I need to wait for an email.

This is the first time I purchased online from Vroom, and so far very unpleasant experience. I should have purchased from a traditional car dealership to save time and hassles. As of now I have a car with an expired temp tag that I can't drive and I don't have a spare car. I'm not happy!

As of 5/27/22, still no email, no phone calls. I filed a complaint with Texas DMV, will pursue this matter through the courts!

Lack of integrity

By James H., Raleigh, NC, Verified Reviewer

I was quoted an offer to purchase my car. The offer was great, so I agreed to sell. However, the offer that I was quoted was not the amount I received. Vroom and the representatives have not held to their end of this transaction. I am owed 60% more than what I was paid. I have conversed with 7 people all of them are saying the same “a check is in the mail.” I have been given a check number, but no tracking number. I have seen no check, and I have no resolution.

Poor communications

By James G. , Ventura, CA

Their communication is very poor. It took them 5 days to acknowledge the receipt of my down payment. They keep sending me requests for documents they already have. When I reply to their emails with a question I don’t get a reply. When I call them, I just get a call center person who can’t seem to do anything.

The sales person was very friendly and helpful, but after I made the purchase they no longer made any effort to communicate.

8 months and still incorrect paperwork

By Paul B., Los Angeles, CA, Verified Reviewer

My advice, do not buy a car from Vroom. After over 100 messages and 100 emails, 8 months later, I finally received the correct paperwork to register my car in California. A one-star review is way to good for Vroom.

Be wary of the vehicles you purchase from Vroom

By Andrew L., Atlanta, GA, Verified Reviewer

I purchased a 2016 Jeep Wrangler from Vroom. The buying process is smooth and I sold my old car to them. That is also pretty smooth. My issue is the vehicle wasn’t road-worthy when I received it. The delivery driver warned me that the parking brake won’t hold so I should get that fixed. I drove it to work the next day and the check engine light came on. I called Vroom and told them to open a claim so I can get it repaired. Shortly after that, I get the traction control and ABS warning lights and my front driver side brake started to smoke.

It took about a week to get my vehicle into the shop. Once it was in they did a full inspection and the list of issues they discovered were pretty major. The least of the issues was the check engine light. There was severe rust on the wheel bearings so that caused the ABS and traction control issues, the brake caliper doesn’t release all the way so the front driver side brakes rub and smoke, damaging both pad and rotor, the flange that connects the Catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe was rusted and broke free so I had an exhaust leak making it sound awful and run rough.

If they did any sort of maintenance before they sold the vehicle it would have never left the lot. These aren’t issues that just pop up all of a sudden these were there when they got the vehicle and they were there when they sold it. Now the warranty service is only wanting to cover the check engine light issue which was a coolant thermostat. There’s $5000 worth of work that needs to be done and should have been done before it was sold and they don’t want to cover. They sold a vehicle that wouldn’t pass emissions and has major braking issues. The customer service is difficult to get a hold of and I’ve been waiting for answers for about a month. Now they have told me they won’t cover anything but the coolant thermostat.

Length of Use: 1–2 years

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Easy to buy and sell

Slow customer service

Shady sales practice

Terrible maintenance prior to sale

Horrible

By Ilasha G., Savannah, GA, Verified Reviewer

Horrible experience! I was approved for a vehicle. There was a lot back and forth communication, paying a reserve fee, sending in all documents, having the documents that needed to get notarized, putting insurance on the vehicle, and sending a down payment. Well, after everything was finalized, I received an email that I had to once again submit proof of income. Like huh? I just signed a contract and sent a down payment! So after I once again sent in more documents, I was told to wait for a shipment date. Well, another week went by and now the bank is contacting me for proof of income! I was so over it. I asked for a refund, just to get a response in an email saying “Yes, ma’am.” I’m still waiting for my refund confirmation for the deposit. I got one for the reserve fee.

I wouldn’t suggest this company if it was the last place on earth! I went to CarMax and was approved, next day went and finalized everything. The vehicle is in my yard now!

Worst experience ever with Vroom. Stay away!

Slow, and shady

By Chris M, Tennessee, Verified Reviewer

Almost a month and still no car, meanwhile my first payment is due in two weeks. I was told the car was never wrecked. That may be true, but it wasn't until we received paperwork to sign that we learned the car did have front-end damage at some point. The salesman claimed to know nothing about it but did disclose the hood had been repainted.

Now I'm wondering should I even get the car. The car was scheduled to ship a week ago. Transport showed up to get the car and they claimed they noticed a scratch on the rim they needed to fix. So transport left, and now my car is in limbo until they find another transport company. The thing is, it's Thursday, so now it's likely my car won't make it until mid next week due to the weekend.

I haven't even gotten my car and have been through hell. If I have to return the car, I hate to see what it will be like. This company won't last another 5 years.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Will never use this company again

By Denise Delegol, West Bloomfield, MI, Verified Reviewer

I purchased a car on Vroom back in July. It started out very promising until I sent in my money and I took procession of the automobile, then it became harder and harder to reach someone. But the last straw was when I discover I had a leak in my new car. The warranty had just expired 10 days ago so now I was not worthy of a callback, but never the less, my son is in the market for a new car, and I will not be recommending Vroom to him or anybody else. This company is about getting the money on hand and kicking the customer to the curb.

I really regret getting into this

By Angie R., Tennessee, Verified Reviewer

Since my husband and I don't get any time off together to physically search for cars at dealerships, I decided to give Vroom a shot. For a few days, I was on the phone with a "car specialist" and a financial tech. I sent in everything they asked for, including three income statements, and they spoke with my husband to get him on as co-signer.

A week has passed, and we've heard nothing. No emails have been answered. Neither the specialist nor the tech left callback info, so I've had to search to find a way to get in touch with either. I spoke with another specialist, who gave me the finance tech's phone number, which is, of course, out of service.

So here I sit, with no way of finding out the status of anything, no way to speak to anyone involved, and am pretty irritated with the whole thing.

I gave two stars because the specialists were at least friendly and personable.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
