Great program. It has really helped me.

By Janice G., Lynchburg, VA, Verified Reviewer

After decades of diets that don't work, I have finally found something that makes sense and is workable for me. I have lost 15 pounds in 2 months and am looking forward to losing the next 15.

I do have a couple of concerns, however. If Noom is to attract AND KEEP subscribers, corrections need to be made in the content of the daily tasks. There are misspelled words (which should have been caught by spellcheck), and some of the pictures of the recipes do not match the recipe, such as a picture of a piece of cake with a recipe for a fruit parfait. Don't overdo the hashtags, and there is no need to use inappropriate words such as "damn" or "#$%^." Keep it professional.

Helps me understand information that I need but I wish that I would lose wait faster

By McKenzie H., Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

I think that the service is great and I feel like it is a safe place to be truthful about our weight and what we want to accomplish. I am on the fast program but I am not losing weight, and I understand it does not just work like that, but I have been on for six weeks and nothing.

Noom really works

By Angie P., Fischer, TX, Verified Reviewer

Believe me when I say that I tried every "diet" out there. Something about Noom seemed different. What appealed to me the most was the fact that you eat real and normal food! This is the longest I have stayed with any kind of "plan," and it is because I am changing from the inside out and seeing results. I feel better than I have in years! Thank you Noom!

P.S. I told my daughter about Noom and she and her husband signed up and are seeing amazing results as well.

Recommended wholeheartedly

By Eleanor B., Wales, United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

I have tried several different ways to lose weight over the past few years, all with some success, but the impact on my lifestyle was not sustainable. As I have ME, I have some limitations on what I can do, and I decided that I wouldn't start anything that I could not see myself doing in five years. Noom has matched this criterion, and I am moving towards where I want to be with my weight. Yes, it needs willpower, yes, you do have to think, and yes, I am feeling more positive and relaxed about losing weight than I have before. If you like the idea of looking into the whys of your eating, not just the whats, then I cannot recommend Noom highly enough.

You do you

By Kate E., New Hampshire, Verified Reviewer

I like Noom because it’s structured yet you can take what you need, and leave the rest. They kind of throw the book at you, but explain everything! There’s plenty of support, but no pressure. I like it for its long term ideas and variety!

Good app, just not for me.

By Corrinne R., Erie, PA, Verified Reviewer

I tried this app for a few weeks and I wanted to like it, I wanted it to work for me, but I just couldn’t get into it. It’s hard enough trying to track your food but having to keep up with a coach and a group was a little too much for my busy schedule. I was a big fan of the color coding system for the food, and that’s something I’ll continue to use.

The app itself was intuitive, it was easy to log my food, and everything was easy to follow. At first, I liked the idea of having a coach, I thought maybe all I needed was some accountability and another person to hold me responsible. I found that my coach was almost unsympathetic in her responses to me. She never once addressed me by name. It was like no matter what I told her I would get some sort of form response back. I almost felt like there wasn’t a real person on the other side of the screen.

Anyway, I have issues with attention span so I found it hard to keep up with reading the psych articles every day. The tests were easy to pass, I could usually take those without reading the articles and get all the questions right, but I felt like there was no real reward to finishing them and no consequence to not doing them. So I stopped doing those even before I quit logging my food. I found it hard to keep up with the weekly goals as well, even something as simple as increased hydration.

This program was way out of my price range, and I paid for the whole year. There are so many free apps out there that can give you a lot of the same features, minus all the reading and minus the coach that may or may not motivate you, depending on how you look at it. I personally don’t believe that this program was worth the money I spent on it, especially because I’ve had better results from the free apps in the past. I wish I would have been given the option to pay in monthly installments, especially because I didn’t even make it to the halfway point in the course.

So to sum everything I experienced up; I feel that this app would be great for someone who is truly committed, who is ready to take the time out of their day to change their lives. This time around that wasn’t me, although I did learn some small things that will help me from here on out.

Thank you for reading, good luck!

Finally...

By Christina S., Minneapolis, MN, Verified Reviewer

Finally a program that works to not only guide me in what to eat, but more importantly, why. A program that gently explores the psychology to help you make a lifestyle change vs. counting points, drinking shakes, or eating their food (trust me - I’ve tried them all).

The first part of every day is reading daily teachings from my favorite NoonNerds and learning about the importance of good food choices, exercise, and mindfulness.

An added bonus is the coach I have there to support me. We also have an awesome group that started at the same time where we can charge ideas, triumphs, and challenges.

This is the best approach I ever had to weight loss and I have been battling this for 40 years!

Good for motivation and support

By Victoria J., Bristol, United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

Noom is a daily series of tasks that help you learn what a long term healthy lifestyle should be. I spend about half an hour a day reading the articles, logging food, and tracking my weight. Noom doesn't actually tell you to follow a particular diet or restrict food. They aim is to provide you with tools and support backed by scientific research to help you work out that will motivate you to change and ultimately lose weight and be more active.

They assign you a personal coach. They help you review your current lifestyle and work with you to set goals that will bring about positive change.

There is also a support group and a group coach who checks in and offers more motivation.

The approach is, if you want to lose weight you need to set small goals, create a plan on how you are going to do that and then believe in yourself that you will do it. Your goal coach helps you plan and your group coach keeps you motivated to keep going.

If you are looking for a quick fix, that promises instant weight loss by eating this set food and doing these exercises, then this isn't for you. If you have a long term issue with overeating or not particularly active, Noom will make you think why that is, help you understand your thinking, and then guide you towards a happier and healthier person.

Breakthrough

By Rachelle F., Los Angeles, CA, Verified Reviewer

What I like about Noom is that it changes everything I ever thought about weight loss. I had always tried avoiding certain foods, and in order to do that, I had to vilify them and convince myself they were bad or off limits. And it never stuck. Now I am learning to not label my food as good, bad or otherwise. Food is food. Nothing is off limits. But there are consequences to my choices and the choice is mine. How empowering!

This is not a quick fix. This is not a gimmick. It is science and psychology. It is comforting to learn that I am not alone in my complicated relationship with food and eating. In fact, I’m pretty normal. Who knew? Noom gives you the tools, through science and research and a splash of humor, to change the way you look at food, and the way you make choices about food.

I have not reached my goal yet, but I can tell that when I do, I’ll be healthier than I’ve ever been, inside and out.

Love the psych tips and constant attention

By Tara L., Boston, MA, Verified Reviewer

I feel like Noom really made me stay accountable to my goals. I also think all the tips about creating good eating habits - at first I didn't think I liked the idea of green, yellow and red foods. Then I realized that the more green foods I would eat - the fuller I would feel all day and I just felt better and more energized. They were foods that seemed to give me more energy. I feel younger and more in shape overall. I find I am taking more time to exercise and eating so much better. I have reached my goal. The only thing that would be even more helpful is if there was a little more indication - once you get to your goal - that you have arrived there - I don't really know how the maintenance part works. Do I still stay on the plan for a few more days or will the calorie budget increase incrementally?

Overwhelmed

By Jeffry Z., New York, Verified Reviewer

I wish had read some of these reviews before signing up. Noom started off well enough, but after a few weeks, I felt like I could not possibly keep up with all of the information coming at me day-in, day-out. I felt like I had signed up for a Ph.D. in weight management, but my weight was still staying the same. The cutesy, jokey "we’re all in this together" psych tricks approach eventually became infuriating. As another reviewer noted, this is NOT a good app for those diagnosed with an eating disorder. You will feel like you’ve failed once again and the experience will most likely retrigger whatever eating disorder issues that brought you to the app in the first place.

Two things that could improve the experience greatly would be a PC app and a workbook to keep track of all the exercises as there are HUNDREDS of them. The bookmarking they offer doesn’t work so well since it’s not a book so there’s no way to associate the bookmarked articles to where you were in the course and what principle you were trying to learn. As with all online apps, it’s all about keeping you hooked so they make their money. I agree that a good personal trainer to help get moving and some OA meetings will work just as well and much better if you’re in the eating disorder cohort.

Now I’m worried about canceling. Good to know there are some strategies available.
