BetterHelp cares for its patients

By Udval G., Ulaanbaata, Mongolia, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp puts patient's well-being over their profit. They give financial aid to people who can't afford therapy and I thought that was so wholesome. Then they also frequently ask if the therapist is good for the patient's mental health (ex. if the therapist was respectful and considerate during the session) and always puts people's mental health as number one.

BetterHelp works!

By Ryan J. , Denver, CO

I’ve always been skeptical of therapy. I kind of maintained that stigmatism that it’s not manly to go to therapy. However, people that I respect recommended therapy. I chose BetterHelp because it has really good discount to veterans. I did a brutally honest assessment of my mental health/life. And was matched with the perfect therapist for me. I really thought I’d go through a few therapists before finding one I like. Now, I really believe therapy has been one of the best things I’ve done for myself in a long time. I feel like I’m in a new chapter of my life and I’m excited for what's to come now. I would recommend BetterHelp for a lot of reasons. But the two most important is: the price discount they offer to veterans is great, and I hope more veterans discover BetterHelp for that reason. Next, they found a great therapist for me.

BetterHelp makes therapy easy

By Patrick L. , Visalia, CA

My overall experience has been great. On my second day using the app, they connected me with the perfect therapist. Usually, the perfect anything is very hard to find but it wasn't hard to get a perfect therapist. Therapy is a very hard step to take and it was hard for me but, to anyone reading this, you will not be disappointed with this service and it will help you through anything you may be going through.

I found a great therapist!

By Carla C. , Atlanta, GA

I tried BetterHelp a few years ago and didn’t have the best experience, so I was weary about giving it another shot, but the affordability made it one of my only options. I’m glad that I tried again because this time I feel I got lucky.

**To be fair, I was a lot more specific about what my needs were when I was signing up this time.**

I immediately connected with my therapist this time. From day one, I felt like my concerns were heard and I felt seen, where I had felt unheard and unseen before. Today, I feel a lot more grounded. I was able to access a life-changing perspective after only one session. No, it wasn’t a magic pill, and it didn’t fix the problem, but it definitely helped me feel more empowered to manage my own life. My therapist provides worksheets and homework that help me to visualize and sometimes reframe the situations I’m learning to manage. I’ve also successfully navigated a few situations that would have likely been very explosive before. I am more practical and intentional, and my weekly session/balancer/reminder has a lot to do with it. I feel like I’m substantially improving the quality of my life and I’m really excited about that.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

I found a great therapist,

BetterHelp worked with my income to make it more affordable.

I can do video sessions with my therapist from home.

The website can be a little complicated. It’s not the most user friendly platform.

I wish that I could cancel/reschedule my own sessions.

I wish the class schedule was more user-friendly. I went to one class and the counselor suggested I go to another class she had, but it wasn’t easy to find that class to sign up after.

BetterHelp review

By Jacquelyn L. , Troy, AL

I have been using BetterHelp for about a year. When I first started, I was skeptical. I have been seeing an in-person counselor for almost 10 years for my anxiety and depression and with the help of my therapist, I feel like I have control over my life. My anxiety and depression were a 10, now I'm at like 2–3.

Mind medicine

By Matt C., Snohomish, WA, Verified Reviewer

My whole brain feels better after a session with my therapist. Starting with the thalamus, and then followed by, surprisingly, the mid-brain, and finally the cerebellum, frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal lobes. And, last but not least, the cerebrum and the brain stem. Truly a full-brain experience.

It was good for my heart, too. But I'm not going to get into the parts of the heart. My heart's not in it.

Thanks again for your service and expertise!

BetterHelp is not cheap but extremely good

By William N., Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

I was matched up with an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate therapist who has helped me realize a lot about myself, and in a short time. I am so thankful that I have this therapist in my life to help me sort out my past, and my life going forward.

The service is not cheap, it works out to $90 per session, $360 per month. But luckily I am able to afford it, and now with the help I'm getting, I can't afford to not do it. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for, and BetterHelp has absolutely been worth it in my experience.

Complete therapy

By Johnnie G. , Orlando, FL

I would recommend BetterHelp to anyone that is looking for therapy. Not only is it a good option to seek therapy and be confident in it, but having therapy that can be cost-effective compared to other options is needed. I feel the time they take to match you with a therapist is totally needed because they match you with someone who meets and exceeds your expectations. Just be open to therapy and what your therapist is asking and you will have a splendid time.

Awesome

By Alex B., Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

I recently embarked on a journey with BetterHelp, and it has been nothing short of transformative. As someone who was seeking a convenient yet effective way to connect with a therapist, BetterHelp exceeded all my expectations, meriting a well-deserved five-star rating.

From the outset, the sign-up process was seamless and thoughtful. The platform asked detailed questions to understand my needs and preferences, ensuring a match with a therapist who was not just qualified, but also aligned with my personal challenges and goals. This personalized approach set a positive tone from the beginning.

The standout feature for me has been the flexibility and accessibility of the service. BetterHelp's platform is designed for today's fast-paced lifestyle. Being able to communicate with my therapist from the comfort of my home has made a significant difference. It's not just about convenience; it's about creating a safe and comfortable space for therapy, which has greatly enhanced the effectiveness of my sessions.

Moreover, the caliber of therapists on BetterHelp is exceptional. My therapist is not only highly qualified but also empathetic, insightful, and genuinely invested in my progress. The sessions are interactive, personalized, and deep, facilitating real growth and understanding. It's evident that BetterHelp values quality and expertise in their therapists.

Another feature that has been incredibly beneficial is the integrated journaling tool. This has allowed me to track my thoughts, moods, and progress over time. It's a wonderful addition that complements the therapy sessions, providing a space for reflection and self-awareness. My therapist can also access these entries, which enriches our sessions with more context and depth.

The platform also excels in terms of privacy and security. I have always felt my information was safe, and the confidentiality aspect of therapy is taken very seriously, which is paramount.

In conclusion, BetterHelp is a revolutionary platform that bridges the gap between technology and mental health care. It's an accessible, flexible, and highly effective way to connect with a therapist. Whether you're new to therapy or looking to continue your journey, BetterHelp is an excellent choice. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking support, understanding, and growth in their mental health journey.

Great therapy and site (insurance issue is the only problem)

By Anonymous C., Florida, Verified Reviewer

I signed up for BetterHelp and got a WONDERFUL therapist, Caroline Brennan, and things are already much better after only 3 weeks. The therapist sent very helpful worksheets and exercises and resources to read. These were perfect. The sessions are really helping me solve this. Also, the site has great videos and webinars on particular problems and issues and they have been great too.

Why I cannot recommend BetterHelp unequivocally is that my insurance will not reimburse me for this, and I can't even get the kind of receipt from BetterHelp that the insurance asks for.

So this is all self-pay. BUT, even so, it is cheaper than I was paying before with a traditional therapist and insurance co-pays/deductibles, etc. And it was FAST to schedule and easy to find the right therapist. So, I guess I'll stick it out for now...

I appreciate BetterHelp

By Ayesha K., Las Vegas, NV, Verified Reviewer

My schedule is really busy and the thought of having to go somewhere to meet with the therapist was a little daunting for the time it would take back and forth. I'm grateful to BetterHelp for first allowing me to be able to choose the therapist I want and find someone who met my specs and expectations. It's a little pricey, yet you have the opportunity to talk to a therapist once a week and text that person as often as you need to, as well as get involved in as many group sessions on a variety of topics as you want. They offer the opportunity to switch therapists if you're not happy with the person without any questions being asked, which is a nice way without confrontation to make a change. I absolutely recommend therapy to everyone. I think there are times when we just need therapy in our lives, and BetterHelp offers an opportunity.

I’m very happy with BetterHelp. Usually, there is a long wait time from when you first feel you need a counselor until you actually start seeing one, but not with BetterHelp. I was able to get matched quickly and start working with my therapist within a week! They offered me some financial assistance, which was greatly needed. High-quality therapy

By Kayla D., New Castle, DE, Verified Reviewer

I was hesitant to sign up because of the cost, but I really needed help so I decided to try it for a little while and it has proven to be worth the cost. The therapist I was paired with is the best therapist I've ever had, and the different options (video, call, messaging) allow me to keep up with therapy on an irregular schedule with lots of travel. Also, on the rare occasions that I haven't been able to find a time slot in my schedule that works with my therapist's schedule, I can take advantage of the webinars included in the membership that week, so I still feel that I'm getting a great service.

Therapy when you need it.

By Shelley H., Weatherford, TX, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp is awesome for people that want to see a therapist. BetterHelp has classes you can attend and you can text with the instructor and they will answer your questions. You get to meet with a therapist once a week with the standard plan; you can text, call, or video call with them. The therapist can give you homework to do during the week if you want to. There are groups you can do once a month with the standard subscription, it's a group of people video chatting with a therapist. You can do more than one, but you have to pay for more than one. During the week when you don't have an appointment, you can text your therapist and they will respond, but not during the weekend or after 4. Everything is on the app so you don't have to give out your phone number or get on Zoom.

In the comfort of my space

By Jamie D., Missoula, MT, Verified Reviewer

I have been in therapy before and it was in person in an office. When I’m in these professional settings, I tend to turn on my own professional mode (I work in healthcare). BetterHelp gives the option to just talk over the phone, and since I’m in my space, I feel much more at ease to be open. I also love that I can message my therapist whenever, rather than always waiting for our weekly session.

My therapist also checks in on me during the week, which I’ve never had before, and it really makes me feel that I matter.

When I really needed to return to therapy, BetterHelp made it so easy and I was quickly matched with a therapist. Although I had to wait several days for a session, I was still able to message with my therapist to give her some background on me and what I wanted to focus on so when I did have my session, it was extremely productive! And that is how it is every week. I get to keep my therapist informed how I’m doing so things aren’t building up.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

I don’t have to commute to an office.

I can talk over the phone instead of being face to face either in person or video.

It’s less expensive than ‘traditional’ therapy, but I get more out of it (journal suggestions and group classes).

The quiz is super thorough.
