Just a plain terrible company

Before Christmas I decided to buy two memberships as gifts. The total for both memberships was $600. I chose to take advantage of a free tasting special of an additional 12 samples. The company did not send me the gift cards, when I reached out to customer service they chose not to respond. I decided to act like a new customer who had a question and they responded in 5 minutes. I then attempted to see if we could correct the issue, no response. In fact, they claimed I never made an order so I sent them the credit card charge. Then no response. Only when I disputed the charge did they try to make right, which I was still open to. Three days later, no response.

I highly recommend avoiding this company.

Whiskey club? I think not...

I bought this for a gift for my husband and discovered that the free full bottle is actually a $45 credit. After reaching out to their customer service multiple times asking them how he could buy a full-size bottle of whiskey or scotch for $45, I was repeatedly given the same answer. "You can browse our selection here." Lot's of cheap gins, whiskeys and other liquors available for $45 but nothing unique or interesting and certainly no scotch. If you go to the site today they still market the membership to include a full-size bottle. It's not true. Deceptive marketing. Very disappointing. Don't purchase.

Instead, your account is credited with a cash value that you can use as a discount towards any bottle from our store, regardless of its price. You can use the discount credits in full or in part.

Not good to their customers or their word

When I first joined the club, the membership was reasonable, and within a year they asked me to renew (early?). The membership cost was now quite high (went from $60 to $210), but with the quartlery discount credits, it was not unbearable. Plus, it still gave me a way to try out new whiskeys that I did not have access to at the local liquor store.

However, on my last order, I ordered 2 bottles of new whiskey and used my credits to help with the financial side. As it turns out one of the bottles was out of stock (no notice given), so they decided it was best to cancel it off of my order. It would not have been such a disappointment, if they had let me keep my quarterly discount. However, they had me pay full price for the one item that was in stock. The refund that they gave me was only for the out of stock item MINUS my discount. So in essence, they took my discount away, with no explanation, and simply said sorry. When I explained to them that this was not really a great business practice, and that I would not be willing to do business with a company that treated their customers in such a way, they basically just thanked me for my input. No aplogies, no recompense.

Consequently, I canceled my membership (no refund) and will not be referring Flaviar to anyone I meet. In fact, I will let everyone know my experience, so that they will not fall prey to their bad business ethics.

It's true that one bottle was refunded; we understand how frustrating it can be when stock issues occur! This being said, the entirety of the store credit used for your order was returned to your Flaviar account ($45). This amount, plus your latest renewal, remains available on the account. You turned off auto-renewal for your account, but your benefits will remain available until April and we'd love to help you get the most out of your time with us!

Concerning the membership cost, a few months after your membership started, we launched a new membership tier and invited existing members to upgrade. The membership came with additional benefits, including the bottle credits that we are referencing today. The difference in price was because your membership length upgraded from quarterly (90 days) to annual. Upgrading was entirely optional and we tried our best to make clear that the upgrade process would only take place at your own discretion.

Scam or incompetence?

Either way, I would avoid this company. Orders are either extremely delayed or never received. The anticipation of trying new whiskeys gives way to frustration in dealing with this company. There are much better options for sampling and purchasing.

Terrible company, avoid

Placed an order for a limited edition bottle. Was a lottery system, won chance to buy, paid and company took money from the credit card as agreed (Invoice no.: 1028569), never got the item, delay after delay. I would never deal again. Terrible.

Flaviar failed

Very disappointing experience overall. I enjoy bourbon and scotch mostly. I am by no means high maintenance with regard to taste. My go-to is Buffalo Trace actually. I received both bourbon and scotch sampler boxes for tasting and 5 out of the 6 were absolutely terrible. Most were like sampling swill out of a used ashtray and tasted cheaply distilled. The 375 ml bottle of 10 Year Whistle Pig was overly priced by at least 25%. I was fully and promptly refunded. Customer service was very fast and accommodating.

Nothing but trouble

My wife signed me up for this for a Father’s Day present. I tried browsing the store and even put a bottle of Japanese whiskey in a shopping cart. I deleted the product from the shopping cart but subsequently got five separate emails spamming me to buy it. The subscription my wife bought me only allowed me to get one whiskey. I couldn’t even make a choice on what I wanted. How lame is that? What’s worse, once I "selected" my subscription product and sample package, they apparently cannot even ship it to me. It has been two weeks and they haven’t even shipped it yet. I am canceling my subscription before I could even get my first shipment shipped to me in the first place!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Just don’t

My honest experience? Ok, here we go. I ordered off of Flaviar to try something new and different. I ordered something and 3 weeks later it came in. I subscribed and got my Welcome Box within a week of placing my order, however, the item that I actually wanted did not come until 3 weeks later. No shipping email until 5 days before the item was delivered. Click the link to check the shipment process, NOTHING. Still sitting in the warehouse in CA. Then all of a sudden the item was being processed by my local courier and is out for delivery that day. Luckily I was home as it needed a signature. So at least I thought it did. Fast forward to delivery day, I get a knock on my door by a delivery driver not wearing a mask. Simply hands me the package and walks away. No ID or signature were needed...I reached out to Flaviar on Twitter as I needed this item for a weekend prior. Twitter Help tells me to reach out to customer service, so I do. My customer service agent was very polite and understanding of the frustration I had.

Just an awful experience all around and Flaviar has some things they need to work out before I even consider using them again. Could have just gone down the street to my local liquor store and gotten it there, just figured I’d try something different and support other business.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Sold me something they didn't have

Bought a $550 bottle of Bruichladdich Black Art from Flaviar. After waiting several weeks for delivery I contacted them. They said it was on the way and they would try to get more detail. The next week they let me know that their supplier didn't have it in stock. Through the conversation I became aware that they source their bottles after they sell them. Super unethical, I won't trade with them again.

Over a week, and nothing

I placed an order 9 days ago. There was no email confirmation of the order. After waiting several days without any updates, I emailed them (since they have no other contact mechanism) asking what was going on. About 24 hours later, I received a response claiming that my order would ship within 5 business days of ordering, and I should expect a confirmation email once it ships.

Five business days came and went, and still nothing shipped. On the website, there is still no status update on this order.

Allow us to provide some insight. Shipping alcohol is an extremely complex process. By now, we are well versed at handling unexpected delivery issues and fluctuations in state laws so there is no disruption in the quality of our service. During the festive season, though, we experienced several such issues at the same time, which has made resolving them efficiently a lot trickier. This, in turn, caused shipping delays, longer transit times, and issues with order tracking. We're terribly sorry you were among the affected!

Not a good value

My wife purchased an annual membership at $95 per quarter, or ~$400 a year. I checked in over the course of the year to redeem my credits and get gift boxes, and at the end of the calendar year to make sure I had used up my credits.

In all, I received 2 sample boxes, and alcohol worth $162.97. Flaviar charged for another quarter on my Gift account, which I stopped, and they fully canceled my account.

When I asked about the remaining unused value in my account, they apologized for the "inconvenience".

This is a very opaque, heavily hyped product/service which ultimately creates very little value, particularly for the loved ones who think they are buying something special.

This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
