Great solution when you have a snoring partner

I know usually you need to fix the problem at the source and my partner is doing her best she can, but still I woke up and could not fall asleep anymore.

Therefore I decided to use my Bose noise-canceling headset with just noise canceling on as a remedy. Which worked, but...

- You do not sleep comfortably.

- The earpads were worn out after several months.

Therefore I was happy to discover Kokoon some time ago, and despite they were in startup mode, I liked the concept and waited eagerly for my headset to arrive.

Now I am using the Kokoon device for over 2 months and it offered me more than expected.

Noise-canceling was my first goal combined with comfortable sleeping - that worked for me.

Next, the additions through the app: The Beach Waves and the random white noise sound made me sleep even better. I love sleeping near the sea and got the same experience (stereo).

All the other features to relax and sleep better provided by the app are not (yet) necessary for me - so I did not experiment with them.

Conclusion: Kokoon makes me sleep comfortable and even better thanks to the app.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Impressive product

UPDATE: Company responded immediately. Got the headphones within a couple of weeks. The headphones are outstanding and interact smoothly with their Kokoon app. Would recommend the product - be sure to follow up with the company and be patient.

Love them!

I am a pretty sound sleeper - but not when I travel. I obtained these mainly for the noise-canceling features, but also for access to the guided sleep programs (which, I must say, are excellent!). Noise-canceling seemed to be just so-so IMO as it didn't seem to help much on the airplane, however, it was VERY noticeable in the hotel. So much so that suddenly hearing my own heartbeat became a little distracting. And the guided sleep programs are completely amazing. The breathing and relaxation techniques put me at ease almost immediately and allowed me to settle into a deep sleep pretty quickly. According to the app, the headphones powered down within 15 minutes of me pressing play because they had detected that I had fallen asleep. I have not had any problems with my headphones and I have not had any issues sleeping in them. I know that some people have reported fabrication issues and sound quality issues, but I have not experienced these. I keep these headphones in their case when not in use and I don't use them for general audio playback as I have other, high-quality cans for that purpose. These are strictly for sleeping.

Worth every penny

My partner is a very LOUD snorer and I live near an active railroad. I did have Bose sleepbuds but they were insufficient, both in battery quality and in options. I have found that Kokoon’s solution to be the answer to my prayers. I will admit that I was skeptical about comfort while sleeping. I am a side sleeper. I was blown away. The first night was an adjustment, but after that no issues. I love being able to listen to whatever I want to as I fall asleep and have the headphones sense when I fall asleep and switch me to white noise. As a former engineer, I am impressed by the quality, functionality, and flexibility of there headphones. I would buy again without hesitation.

Great product, app needs improvement

The Kokoon Headphones are very comfortable and do a very good job of blocking out ambient noise. They take a few nights to get used to - but then they are very comfortable and help improve sleep quality when you are used to them. I am impressed with the durability, sound quality, and comfort. The app is somewhat basic but is a nice added extra. If you are buying the headphones as a sleep tracker, wrist-mounted trackers will do a better job - but as a pair of ultra-comfortable headphones that will last a lifetime - these are spot on.

I can sleep!

These are great - just remember to charge them each day, otherwise they don’t last a second night and you will be scrabbling about in the dark trying to find the audio cable. Using that the noise canceling doesn’t work.

My only complaint is that the sleep data won’t sync.

Improved sleep

Overall, it's been a big improvement. It has helped me sleep as long as I have YouTube sleep hypnosis videos playing on loop all night long. There are still times I don't sleep but overall a big improvement.

Great headphones, noise cancellation, background noise for falling asleep

These headphones are great! I purchased them because the neighbor had a loud, barking dog. The headphone noise cancellation in combination with relaxation sounds helped me immensely with falling asleep. Headphones are designed so that you barely feel them as you're falling asleep. Battery life did not meet the advertised time so I'm not able to use these through the entire night.

Great sleep aid, with decent sound quality.

My Kokoon Headphones arrived quickly and efficiently (bought in January 2020).

General appearance is good and they are of quality construction, even if just a touch on the heavy side for my liking. I love the protective case for travel and storage at my bedside.

I bought these headphones essentially as a sleep aid, to blot out external noises and aid relaxation from the in-built meditation and soundscapes on the app. Initially, as I am traditionally a side sleeper, I was unable to sleep comfortably with the headphones on, so I was disappointed that I was unlikely to achieve my goal. However, I changed my pillow to a softer one, and now have trained myself to sleep on my back with head tilted with ear and phones nestled into the pillow on one side. Now positioned comfortably with the headphones on, I drift off to sleep much quicker and stay asleep for longer than I did before I had them. Good result for me.

I worried that wearing and playing Bluetooth headphones all night in bed was bad for my hearing and harmful to general health, but as the sound fades over time as you fall asleep and then the headphones automatically switch off when you are actually asleep, I now believe the sleep benefits out way any risks.

I occasionally use my headphones for playing my streamed music during the day, and although I am not an expert, the sound quality is definitely very good for my needs.

Still waiting...

Eight months on and I have just received an email "I know some of you have experienced a delay with receiving your Kokoon headphones. This has been caused by us discovering a small manufacturing defect in our latest batch."

OK...these things happen...thanks for letting me know. Looking at some other reviews though I am getting a bit nervous about delivery.

Rating of 3 stars reflects service to date - not the phones themselves, since I don't have them yet!

Subpar audio

It took over three years to receive my Kokoon headphones after backing it on Kickstarter. I finally got them a couple of weeks ago and the audio quality is not very good. The finished product also looked like an advanced prototype. I'll be buying the Bose or Sony noise canceling headphones instead. Unless you are really going to use them to help you sleep, I'd suggest you pass.

Waiting and waiting

I have been patiently waiting and waiting for quite some time. Each time I inquire I receive a polite email letting me know my information has been updated. My information never changed. I never get an actual response to my question.

The unresponsive responses are more frustrating than the actual wait!

I don’t know if I will recommend Kokoon to a friend because I have haven’t received mine yet. I would recommend they look elsewhere if searching for an aid for better sleep. Waiting over a year will result in crankiness. I had to select yes or no to post my review.

Good, but not great.

I have trouble settling for sleep and getting back to sleep.

Having read the overall positive reviews, I dug deep and purchased a pair. After all, if it works, it's worth it.

Noise cancelling:

I'm starting off with the bad news - Active Noise Cancelling is ineffective. It is truly disappointing when the sleep exercises in the Kokoon app has done its bit, and I'm distracted by a cawing crow or a passing ambulance in the distance. Any other headphone would be able to deal with these noises. By design, over-ear headphones are still better than other headphones at reducing noise, but ANC is simply not working.

Design:

Beautiful in grey, but the materials are flawed. Fabric earpieces are detachable and washable, but the band of the headset is also wrapped in fabric. This should either be made from a wipe-down material, or it should be washable. Despite great care, I have already marked this lightly.

Comfort:

Snug, and I can rest my head lightly on the side of the headphones. Kokoon are more comfortable than other headphones, but hurts my ears after prolonged wear. I end up waking up to take them off in the middle of the night.

App:

Quality and simple exercises. I bought the headphones to listen to Sleepcasts from Headspace (paid subscription), so I end up using both.

In the end, a pair of Apple Airpod Pros resolved all the above issues. However, over-ear headphones are debatably better for ear health than in-ear headphones.

Overall, the Kokoon can help me sleep - on occasion. I enjoy having a dedicated pair of headphones that I associate with sleep. However, taking the price into account, it's hard to justify when I bought it for its noise-canceling abilities.

Super tired of waiting

I ordered in February 2018. I get updates that say shipping is always one month away, but that never happens. Their website says brand new buyers can get them within a month, but original buyers still haven’t gotten them. I haven’t gotten an update in two months. I’m starting to think this is a scam that I have invested $300 in. I love the idea of the product, but how patient are we supposed to be?

Even this write up says "Mass manufactured models now won’t be released until the end of 2016." Fast forward to August 2018 and still no word on when I will get them. I am about to cancel my order and reverse the charges off my credit card.

Vaporware

I ordered these more than a year and a half ago. I get no updates and only a "we'll be happy to refund your money" responses. Some people have been waiting since 2015 for the promised product and they just keep delaying it. They advertise for more "buyers" but have not sent out a single piece as far as I can tell. I would not "invest" in these given the opportunity, and I hope other people are not fooled.

After having read about this product, I was excited to treat myself to better sleep. Turns out that shipping in June meant nothing to the company with constant slippage to the schedule without any explanation or excuses. Firmly believing that this a scam now. Do not order!

Now feels like a scam

I bought into these during their Kickstarter in the spring of 2015. I picked these because I wanted the newest thing that wasn't available anywhere else. More than three years have passed, and I still haven't received a pair. It's one thing to make model improvements and slow production a little bit, but what investor is willing to wait four years for the first model of a consumer tech good like headphones? The way technology changes, it seems ridiculous to wait for them to make a pair of 2015 headphones more comfortable and durable when other companies are making something new for 2019 already.

Poor customer service

Poor customer service. I ordered this to be delivered around summer last year, but then the delivery date kept being pushed back. They didn't notify the paying customers about the delays directly; they buried the information in a monthly newsletter. When the delivery date was delayed for a fifth time, I complained and asked for a refund. While the complaint was not responded to, the refund was processed relatively quickly. I understand that they still have not fulfilled the orders for a single customer. Amazing that they relied on public support to start production, through Kickstarter, but are so disdainful of customers.

Disappointing

I paid in good faith with the promises of delivery. Every time I complain I get the same automated email with the same promises that they started shipping and yet nothing ever comes of it. They are quick to take peoples money and still advertise on their website for pre-orders with the promises of early delivery.

I feel that I have been conned like many other people.

They make promises of regular news updates, but I never get them.

I was very excited by the thought of having a good night sleep, but if I ever get them it will still be disappointing and I would never recommend them to anyone else. So unprofessional.

Incredibly disappointing

1. Placed the kickstart order in July 2016 and over two years later, still no headphones.

2. I emailed Kokoon in July 2018 and received a reply that shipping would occur September 2018. As of mid-November 2018 still no headphones or any communication from Kokoon.

3. I sent another email November 7, 2018, requesting a refund in light of what has become a two-year interest-free $419 loan.

4. Nearly a week later, still no reply.

Still waiting...3 years later

What a waste. To think of all the things I could have done with the money in the meantime, when you're effectively buying 2015 technology that arrives in 2019.

If the company had been more honest about their knowledge of production and capabilities, it would not have been so shocking.

This was the first and last time I ever use Kickstarter.

Beware of these scam artist!

It was with great anticipation that I received my headset, and once opened, I found a discount and decided to purchase two more sets as I never even questioned their performance from all the hype. The first night I used them I awoke and went for a walk and halfway into the walk the battery died and I had properly charged them for 12 hours on the initial charge. I wrote the company and they responded immediately stating that they were designed for 12 hours worth of performance (my Bose can go multiple days). I wrote back immediately and asked that they send a new set that they tested before shipping to make sure that once you fall asleep the headset turns off, which is one of their sales claims. Today, I have now written them three additional times asking for help, today I demanded a refund as stated in their sales policy!

I believe this company, because they are offshore in England, believes that they can prey on Americans with substandard products and then ignore the request for refunds. I would avoid this company at all cost; they are unworthy of anyone's patronizing as they do not provide professional and honest customer service, they are a scam artist and all the world should now. The product is covered in a grey cloth as well as the case, and it is not leather as promised, and it will not take long before you have a dirty filthy headset in your bed and on your pillow. The speakers at higher volumes crack and cannot handle the music for your mobile phone.

Simply this product is just plain crap! Do not buy unless you like throwing your money away and you should warn your bed mate that you will be transmitting a dirty filthy bacteria host to your bed.

Questionable

I can’t review the earphones as I haven’t received them yet even though have been promised since January. On the site they are still advertising that they will be shipped if ordered now, yet I ordered mine in September! I really question the ethics and honesty of the company, which makes me question their claims. I wouldn’t recommend on the basis of extremely poor communication and reliability.

Kokoon has relented and will now refund me on both sets and must have added more support staff because I'm getting replies from about 3-4 different people on the following day after I send them an email. It's a nightmare to try and work out what is going on though. Now I am waiting for a return voucher.

Be aware that the following items need to be included in order to be refunded.

- Headphones

- Carry Case

- Green Kokoon box

- Eye Mask

- Micro USB charging cable

- Audio cable

- Manual

- Safety Instructions

- Welcome Card

Make sure you keep everything if you want a refund.

Completely incompetent company

I was one of the first seven hundred purchasers and I am still waiting for my delivery. I continue to get empty promises from the company on delivery and I always need to correct them or inform them of my address and order number. Horrible organization, and I have my doubts the product will be any better than the customer service.
