Psychology + common sense = weight loss

By Anne U., White Plains, NY, Verified Reviewer

I was hesitant to try Noom as I have been trying unsuccessfully for almost 15 years to lose the "baby weight" I put on. But continually feeling bad about my fat rolls and the idea that I want to get healthy as I enter my after 50 years, made me try the app. I was impressed by several items - the slow adjustment period to changing my habits, this is not a place for fad diets or crazy exercise schemes, healthy habits take time to build. I like how everything they suggest is backed by science - real science - not "fake news" science. I like the idea that this is a lifestyle change, not a fad diet - there will be ups and downs, and they use psychology to get you through the highs and lows. Enjoy the two-pronged approach to personalization - a private coach who checks in weekly and a group mentor to provide larger support. Highly impressed and I am at my lowest weight in about 5 years...looking to keep going to my target goal of pre-baby weight.

NOT WORTH IT

By Angela M., Nevada, Verified Reviewer

I was under the impression that it was the $32 and change a month, well, they charge you for the whole 4 months in one shot. Nowhere does it tell you that. Also, there is no one to actually talk to, it is all automated responses and that's it. There is no customer service number, no actual person help. The way they have the food set up is ridiculous. I can log my food for free in my Fitbit app, which I was doing on top of Noon and I actually find easier to do than the Noom app.

Overall I think it is better to have a free app and join some type of boot camp, CrossFit, other type of group class gym setting where you have real-life other people to help motivate you and you to motivate them, and plan better meals together and have live REAL support and make gym friends to where you can hold each other accountable. I haven't used the Noom app in a few weeks now at least and I am already doing better and losing weight successfully with the help of real people, not a crappy app.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Don’t do.

By Elizabeth S., California, Verified Reviewer

They will take your money and not refund you any of it if the program does not work for you. They don’t care, they only want their money. They are run on algorithms and computers, not real people. They don’t care about helping you, and I actually gained weight on their program.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not happy

By Sophie R., Los Angeles, CA, Verified Reviewer

I never completed my application to Noom. I couldn't have. I do not own a smartphone. Unfortunately, they ask for the payment information first and mention the smartphone later.

They also do not provide any explicit unsubscription information in any of the early communications. Rather naively, I assumed that since I did not complete the application process, I was not enrolled and Noom and they won't charge me.

Just to be on the safe side, I also clicked the "unsubscribe" button on one of their newsletters. Apparently, that only applied to the Newsletter.

I was charged $149 through PayPal.

I have looked up "How to unsubscribe from Noom" since, and it's "Catch 22." You need to be fully subscribed to opt out, and if you can't fully subscribe...

I'm 72 and on a pension. $149 is a lot of money.

I could not find an order number. Bellow is the number of the PayPal transaction.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not worth the very high price

By Jessica C., California, Verified Reviewer

If you were raised with any concept of what healthy eating and/or are remotely physically fit, this app is NOT FOR YOU. In fact, if you passed a basic nutrition and/or gym class in high school, you probably know everything the program will tell you already. Furthermore, there is zero attention paid to what foods are actually nutritious and nurturing your body. You'll totally win on the app (and I'm sure lose weight too) if you eat nothing but iceberg lettuce and watermelon, but you won't be healthy. If walking around the block is a stretch for you, then yes, this program may help, but again, if you know anything about health you'll find it ridiculous. Their claim it is "personalized" is total BS, and the "coaches" are little more than cheerleaders who occasionally copy and paste a generic platitude into your chat. VERY expensive for how basic it is - you would do better with one of the free meal tracking apps.

Update

By Helen A., Connecticut, Verified Reviewer

Although they initially refused, to their credit when I filed a second complaint, they did refund the $129 I had been charged.

7th week at doing the Noom

By Angela K., Freeland, MI, Verified Reviewer

I am very dissapointed in Noom. I only had a little weight to lose, 15 lbs, but Noom has not worked for me. I have followed very carefully. My coach, Dorian S has not helped. When I asked for help, she just asked me questions, did not offer any good help for my weight loss. She has only checked in with me twice, not the coaching that I was led to believe I would receive. All of the information that you give, some is new, most is information that I already know and have been using for the past 5 years or so. I would not recommend this program to anyone. I lost 25 lbs about 4 years ago with Nutrisystem and managed to keep all off, but I never did lose my last 10 or so lbs with Nutrisystem. I was hoping you would give me the tools to lose this little bit of weight, but all that has happened is me bouncing around up and down about 4 or 5 lbs. Complete waste of the $99.00. I even picked up a new workout routine to go along with my current workout, to no use...You sent me this email, but when I went to log in, you say that you don't have a record of this email. This is also a big negative in my book.

BAD! Only in it for the money.

By Tuesday S., Indiana, Verified Reviewer

This "company" is only in it for the money! Some people might find what they offer beneficial but for what they charge for what they offer... you can find better. Trust me! PLEASE if you haven't downloaded the app yet, do your research!

For those of you on here that have already figured this out and have lost money due to their "refund policy," I suggest you, as I have already done, email them through their "support system" letting them know that you feel their business practices are UNETHICAL, especially their billing system, for whatever reasons you have. I had plenty, including attempts to cancel that were ignored, their refund policy and FAQ sections being difficult to navigate or get any useful information out of, and the fact that they do not email or inform you in ANY way that your trial period is up and you are about to begin being billed. I also never actually used the app or inputted any information into it besides the initial sign up, because I realized pretty much immediately that what they offered wasn't actually what they were advertising. Plus $150 for a computer to generate advice and tasks for me through an app for 6 months? I can get that somewhere else for cheaper...or free!

I informed them that their business was obviously a scam, and that their billing policy and practice was unethical and considered CUSTOMER FRAUD as defined by the Customer Protection Act of 1986.

I also copied four different other customer reviews stating the very same things I was from Facebook, this website, and another website into the email.

I received an email within 30 minutes informing me that she "spoke with her manager and I would be receiving a full refund within 2-5 business days."

I suggest anyone else out there that gets scammed by this company to do the same as I have. If you want your money back.

SCAM all the way

By Dawn L., Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I gave them the info requested to see how the app worked, believing there "free trial" info.

I then canceled it within three days. I unsubscribed.

Low and behold I had a charge on my credit card a month later. I have asked to have it reversed and remove my information as I unsubscribed within the time frame allotted.

I have as yet heard nothing back.

I'll keep you posted.

Not for those with a history of eating disorders

By Jennifer L., Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

I was really hoping with the emphasis on psychology that this program would be different, but the huge number of us with eating disorders are not going to be served here. There is no mention nor help with obsessive thoughts about food or the accompanying compulsions that plague so many. Very disappointed. I found myself obsessing over calories and quantities since there are constant texts, emails, and notices about food and dieting all day, every day. I was more obsessed with food a few weeks in than when I started, and weight loss wasn't even in the cards with that going on. When all you can think about is food, because you are constantly bombarded with notices about food, it makes it very hard to lose weight.

The pedometer and calorie counting portions are nice but not worth the very hefty price tag since you can get these in free apps.

Save your money.

No services provided, can't cancel

By Karen Z., Ohio, Verified Reviewer

I signed up with Noom on 2/23/19. I bought the free 14-day trial and the customized exercise and weight loss plans. I received the documents which were generic, and available everywhere for free. I am out $59 because I stupidly used a debit card. It is now February 25th. I cannot log into Noom, I can't use the documents sent to me, and their two 800 numbers tell you that you must log in. You cannot talk to anyone.

I have sent several questions to Noom and no results. I called my card company and filed a dispute. I can't believe I was so stupid as to expect this to work. This is a FRAUDULENT company.
