SeroVital is a supplement that’s marketed towards women who want to restore their youth, though they suggest that men can also benefit from use.

It purportedly increases your levels of human growth hormone (HGH) by providing your body with amino acids to foster its production in the pituitary gland.

According to the company, this supplement is the only clinically tested HGH secretagogue formulation that increases the body’s natural levels by more than 600%.

Can Oral Supplements Boost Human Growth Hormone Levels?

HGH is an essential hormone that is naturally released by the pituitary gland, and its partially responsible for putting you through puberty, your overall body composition, and even heart functioning.

Your HGH production goes down naturally as you age, starting in your mid-twenties, and this deficiency is believed to be one cause of common aging symptoms like loose, wrinkled skin, lower energy levels, and thinning hair.

The central premise of SeroVital is that taking amino acid supplements will boost your HGH production. However, this evidence isn’t 100-percent clear.

Dr. Annthea Fenwick, a fitness expert, told us that HGH supplements haven’t been studied as much as injections have been.

The product website references a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study where the supplement succeeded in increasing the growth hormone by 682 percent.

Notably, the company states that this increase falls within a physiologically normal range, so the effects on your health might not be dramatic.

For example, a 2017 study on women with heart failure found that amino acid supplements like SeroVital made less of a difference in the HGH levels than a protein-rich meal replacement drink.

Claimed Benefits and Dosage

SeroVital contains a proprietary blend of amino acids that are designed to increase your HGH levels naturally. According to the company, keeping your levels high may result in more energy, better sleep, a higher sex drive, less body fat, and smoother, more elastic skin.

While the supplement is marketed more towards women, the product website states that it works for all adults between ages 18–70.

You are instructed to take four capsules daily on an empty stomach, either two hours before breakfast or two hours after dinner. Otherwise, the amino acids in your food might interfere with it.

The company states that you shouldn’t take more than four capsules within 24 hours.

You can take SeroVital for as long as you want to increase your HGH levels, though the company states that the positive effects may gradually reverse once you stop.

SeroVital Ingredients: Are They Safe and Effective?

Below we’ve summarized the reported impacts of each active ingredient in SeroVital, as well as any supporting scientific evidence for their efficacy.

L-Lysine HCI

This is an essential amino acid your body takes in through food. Lysine is involved with growth, calcium absorption, and collagen production. It’s best to take in at least a gram a day, and it’s plentiful in protein-rich foods.

While earlier studies demonstrated that amino acid mixtures containing lysine were able to promote HGH secretion in adults, more recent results have been contradictory.

HGH in elderly women was not increased despite significantly increased levels of arginine and lysine after consumption of the amino acid mix. Use is generally safe, even at doses up to 17,500mg/day, though gastrointestinal related side effects have been reported.

L-Argnine HCI

This non-essential amino acid is used to regulate heart health and control high blood pressure and kidney functioning, and it also stimulates the release of HGH.

Argnine works by widening your arteries to increase oxygen delivery and blood flow through your body. There’s evidence that Argnine more effectively stimulates HGH production when combined with lysine.

Again, when paired with lysine in earlier studies, amino acid mixtures offered promise in stimulating HGH secretion. Though this effect was contradicted in a more recent study.

Doses at 3.6 g/kg body-weight/day are safe in rats. Long-term studies are needed to characterize the effects of chronic use in humans.

N-Actyl L Cysteine (NAC)

This is a synthetic compound that your body converts to glutathione, a protein that works as a natural defense for the liver.

Consumer Lab reports that the compound is often incorporated into anti-aging products. They state that there’s minimal evidence that it works when taken through an oral supplement because it doesn’t seem to stay absorbed long enough to be effective.

NAC didn’t slow or reverse the age-related decline of blood levels of hormones associated with the aging process in rats.

Oral NAC is safe, even at 3.6g/day, with adverse events rarely reported. Nonetheless, there remains limited support for the dietary use of NAC to reverse or slow the effects of aging.

Oxo-Proline

Also called pyroglutamic acid, oxo-proline is another amino acid your body converts into glutathione.

Support for oxo-proline’s ability to boost HGH comes mainly from animal studies, this makes characterizing the safety profile challenging.

L-Glutamine

Derived from glutamic acid, glutamine is an amino acid that helps normalize the functioning of your immune system, digestive tract, and muscle cells.

You lose glutamine as you age and when you undergo heavy exercise, infections or trauma, so it’s often used in the form of an oral supplement to restore functioning.

While 2g of oral glutamine increased HGH in 8 of 9 subjects, scientific support for use in this capacity is sparse.

High doses ( over 40g/day) may be associated with adverse effects like alteration in the absorption of other amino acids, enhanced ammonia productions, and a reduction in the ability of your body to maintain acid-base balance.

Schizonepeta Powder

Schizonepeta (also called hairy sage) is a plant used to treat skin conditions like eczema. While it’s considered safe to ingest, large doses have been linked to worsening cases of liver disease.

Support for an anti-aging role is not currently available. The lethal dose is estimated to be 2.652 +/- 0.286 g/kg in a mouse study.

Key Takeaways:

In a randomized trial, SeroVital increased HGH levels 8-fold from baseline measurements when compared to those who took a placebo, but the difference between them started to drop after two hours. The effect of this supplement in raising HGH was tested in this trial, but not the overall effects of elevating HHG levels.

Regarding the individual ingredients, support for a role in boosting HGH or slowing age is mixed or absent altogether. Therefore, long-term studies are needed to clearly identify the potential benefits of this supplement.

Because SeroVital’s ingredients are listed as part of a proprietary formula, not knowing the amount of each makes it difficult to fully characterize the safety. However, the ingredients are generally safe.

Analysis of Customer Reviews

119 SeroVital customers left reviews on our website for an average rating of 2.6-stars. Reviewers on Amazon rate the supplement higher at 3.8-stars out of five.

Some of the most common comments were from customers who took the supplement for several months at a time and noticed significant differences in their life. The majority of reviewers seemed to be in their fifties or older, and many commented on how much younger they believed that they looked because of it.

Lots of reviewers also reported that SeroVital gave them more energy and that their hair grew faster and came in fuller. Others stated that it minimized their hot flashes and helped them sleep better.

Not all SeroVital users seemed to achieve such impressive results, as others stated that their improvements were almost unnoticeable and not worth the monthly cost for them.

In some cases, women wrote that they didn’t feel like they benefited from SeroVital until they stopped taking it. Then they were reminded what their baseline was before they started taking it.

The Bottom Line

HGH supplements might not be the anti-aging cure they claim for everyone. One study points to the ability of SeroVital to boost HGH, but we do not know the overall effects of this action.

Results from studies regarding the individual ingredient’s ability to boost HGH range from not supportive to mixed. Each ingredient is generally safe, though we don’t know the amounts included in SeroVital’s blend.

Several factors influence your body’s hormone production levels beyond your age.

These include your sleep cycle, exercise habits, and diet. Supplements like SeroVital might make some difference but a better way to boost your HGH levels is to exercise and get lots of sleep.

Likewise, you are setting yourself up for problems if your hormones become too unbalanced.

Deborah Maragopoulos, an integrative nurse practitioner, told us that you ideally should ensure your other hormones like estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, DHEA, and cortisol are balanced before starting HGH supplementation.

Horrible after 1 year

By M. SHELL, Charlotte NC, Verified Reviewer

I am 48 years old and began taking Serovital Hgh 14 months ago. I had positive results for the first 6 to 9 months. I have always had an oily T-zone and noticed that cleared up very quickly. No more carrying oil-blotting papers -- I was thrilled. I work out a lot and used to sweat quite a bit but noticed soon after beginning the product that not only did I stay dry during workouts, I didn't really need deodorant/antiperspirant at all.

After a few months I could go quite a few days without washing my hair and it NEVER GOT OILY. Then it started thinning and breaking. I itched all over. My skin has been so dry for the past 8 months I can peel a layer off nearly every day, and forget getting near chlorine. I quit producing ear wax (something else I considered a positive at first).

Where am I today? I have thin hair that I have to hold to even comb or it will break and IS broken in many places that will take a few years to grow out. I cannot highlight it because it is too weak, so now I am part blonde, part brunette and have had to commandeer my tween's headbands to partially disguise that. Basically I look like a '50s housewife whose eyelashes are falling out. I stopped taking Serovital Hgh 15 days ago and am HAPPY to report that I can sweat again, need Q-tips now and see an iota of oil on my forehead and scalp. I did my homework and read reviews of this product periodically and thought I was one of the "lucky ones " it was working for. It's not worth it for vanity and I'm sure it didn't add any years to my life. Also the lack of oil contributed to my first wrinkles. I keep reading "Serovital has no side effects ". They may have their first case study.

Made Me Crazy!

By Susan Beyer, Charlotte, NC, Verified Reviewer

I took this SeroVital-hgh for 2 weeks. I immediately felt weird after the first dose. It did help my circulation, so much so that I was awake most of the first night. My stomach began feeling upset most of the time. I did not want to eat very much. By the second week my mood had become borderline neurotic. I work in customer service and found myself wanting to be rude to people that were difficult callers. I became really depressed and lethargic. I was hoping for better results from this product. Not a healthy product to take.

Not good

By Lyzza Campos, El Paso, TX , Verified Reviewer

I am 54 years old, and have great skin. When I began taking this product, I noticed that my skin changed, and got blotchy and very red. I also gained ten pounds quickly, and the worse thing was, my stomach became bloated and I appeared as if I was pregnant. I have stopped taking this product. I also need to add that I did not sit around, over eating. I will never ever take this again. By the way, I bought these pills at Costco.

Don't waste your money.

By Susan, Buffalo, NY, Verified Reviewer

I took SeroVital HGH for 9 months straight. I never noticed ANY of the claims this product makes. As a matter of fact I started to not feel well at all. I went to see my doctor. He ran some blood work and called me within 2 days. He said that my liver enzymes were way off! He couldn't understand what was going on as he has been my doctor for 30 years and my liver enzymes have never been high. I was a wreck. I went in to see him and we were discussing the situation. He was perplexed. He asked if there was ANYTHING new I was taking. Then it hit me. The SeroVital. He said I bet that's it. I immediately stopped taking it. I went back in 2 weeks to get my blood tested again. Sure enough my enzyme levels were going down. Finally after 6 weeks of NOT taking this awful product, my enzymes were and have been back to normal. May be this product will work for you, but you better have your blood checked periodically to be on the safe side. Everyone is different. I just know that I've always had excellent blood work until I started this product. Never again.

Does not work

By Kathy, Rochester Hills, MI, Verified Reviewer

Save your money. Does not work, not one bit. If I saw or felt the least bit different I would have continued taking it. No difference whatsoever.

Don't waste your money

It's an over priced load of crap, $300.00 wasted! It did absolutely NOTHING it said it would do. Don't waste your money. I had to give it a one star rating just to post a review, because it didn't give the option of NO stars!

Heartburn!

By Sandy, Chicago, IL, Verified Reviewer

After hearing all the buzz about Serovital HGH, I thought I would give it a try. I just turned 55, and for my age I have wonderful skin, and show very little signs of my true age. I eat a healthy diet, and exercise daily. With that being said, I wanted to try Serovital to help me lose the 25 pounds that refuses to budge, and gain more lean muscle mass.

After a week, I noticed I had server heart burn, which I never had before. I had increased appetite, and my mood was a lot more aggressive. I had to quit taking it.

Three days later, no heart burn, my mood is back to clam, and I am not constantly hungry. I should of left well enough alone. I would recommend doing the research, exercise, and eat a healthy diet to raise the HGH naturally.

Forget Waterboarding

By Mark O, Los Angeles, CA, Verified Reviewer

After trying this poison which almost cost me my liver, I realized we don't need to waterboard terrorists. Just force them to ingest this foul tasting toxic waste and they will be confessing everything. Stay away from this stuff. I would rather drink nuclear waste.

Numbness

By Gail, Columbus, Ohio, Verified Reviewer

I saw the advertisement on TV. And the doctor from the "Doctors" show she also endorsed this product. So I felt confident that it was ok. I wanted and needed help so bad with weight, mood, energy and not taking synthetic hormones. I welcome it all. However, I am going on my 5th month and about $500.00 worth of NO results. I am embarrassed to let my family or friends know that I actually took this product with no results. I been advised to go to Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig for better results than looking for a magic pill. I did not think this was a magic pill, but a supplement that I could trust because of the endorsement. I am very unhappy. Please cancel my auto-pay and refund my money back for not delivering what you claim I would receive - results. For more details. Please do not hesitate to contact me.

I am going to my doctor in May 2016 to find out about my numbness, my joint pain, my side hurting and my stomach bloating. I'll make sure I let your company know of my results.

Worst stuff you could put into your body

By Patricia, Chicago, IL, Verified Reviewer

I saw the ad and the doctor's endorsement, which I trusted. What a disappointment! I had to stop taking SeroVital, as it gave me severe diarrhea, my energy level dropped, sugar levels got out of control, and my knees hurt so much I can barely walk. I thought it would help my skin due to diabetic dehydration and help with muscle tone. Guess this stuff is only good to clean out toxins through all the trips to the bathroom. I have called and canceled my "Membership".

Dangerous

By Mary Sartori, Homewood, IL, Verified Reviewer

Bought this item from Ulta in Tinley Park, IL. My first impression was to return it after reading bad reviews, but I kept it and months later tried it. I took about 6 capsules and the worst day of my life happened at a business meeting. My stomach was cramping, I started feeling like I was having a baby. I made it back to my job to only get in my car, after being helped off by another employee, and made it half way home, about 5 miles, and my intestines exploded. I had a blanket in my car I sat on. You have no idea what came out of me, liquids as if I took an over abundance of laxatives, which I hadn't. I only had my usual coffee and bagel I shared with a colleague.

I finally made it in my driveway and wrapped the blanket around me like a diaper and hurried down to my basement to find tons of liquid poop everywhere. The pain I endured while driving was worse than labor pains of having a baby. There was even blood in it. After I cleaned up I went to bed, since the experience was totally trying on my body.

I knew right way it was these Serovital-hgh pills I took. I had no flu symptoms and felt better after it was all out of me. I did go to my Doctor and she ran tests and I had a poop test that showed no illness. How this is still on market baffles me. If I had my receipt I would have sued. The other bad thing was I paid 100.00 dollar for this poison that I put in my body. Shame on all you people who make this and sell this. The pain and the embarrassment I will never forget.

I guess if I had died you would have had to pay. I want to see this on reviews or I will go to other sources to make it on TV or radio.
