Summary
BetterHelp is an online counseling platform that will pair you with a professionally licensed counselor. Access to counseling can be scheduled at any time, anywhere, and through any smart device. The efficacy of BetterHelp is linked to provider skill and intervention protocols, but there are some drawbacks if you fall into certain categories of needs and it’s not covered by your insurance provider.

I had face-to-face therapy, and I was't sure that BetterHelp would really...help. I made adjustments, I got a good counselor (I can pick another but there's no need, mine is good), and I am seeing new good things in myself, my actions, my breathing, my life.
I am worth more than many sparrows.
Length of Use: 3–6 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Available, can make a schedule that works
Cost is not low, but there is financial aid
My counselor follows a clear, solid approach
I wanted face-to-face
At first, it was not warm, that came later
Is there any pro bono?

I made the choice to enroll at BetterHelp when my anxiety was eating me alive. I wasn't sleeping, my brain would never shut off, and I was physically ill. The therapist that I was matched with has been a dream! This was literally the best decision I've made for a long time. I look forward to our weekly calls and know that I can contact her whenever I need to! Can't recommend this enough!
Length of Use: 1–2 years
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Ease of contact - even when it's not my session time, I can send a message to my therapist
Customer service - whenever there has been an issue, it's been handled well and quickly
The fact that financial aid is available
Payment is in USD - I'm in Canada and the exchange rate super sucks right now (not their fault)
There are sometimes connectivity issues, but I am always called back

In a season of darkness and despair, I reached out to BetterHelp. I was experiencing postpartum depression, a difficult postpartum recovery, and by extension, difficulty in my marriage and parenting a newborn, a toddler, and a preschooler. Through BetterHelp, I felt heard and affirmed. My counselor helped me in a massive way by giving me easy access to communicate to her through the site (with quick responses), as well as tangible tools and exercises to work through my depression towards healing and hope. Grateful does not begin to describe my experience and healing. I highly recommend BetterHelp.

I've just completed a 4-month period of counseling through BetterHelp.com and without a doubt, it's been one of my richest ever periods of growing and learning. The counselor they connected me with (Traci Baxendale Ball) has been brilliant. She has really helped me in a big way. The customer support from the BetterHelp Team has also been brilliant. And the cost is amazingly low for such a high caliber service. I absolutely recommend BetterHelp. Finding them has been my best discovery in years.

BetterHelp is what anyone who wants to get better but can’t always physically be in an office/clinic wants. This app has a lot to offer its subscribers. You can journal, which I’ve found as equally supportive and helpful as the counselors, who are my next point. Everyone is educated and experienced in multiple disciplines and areas, which makes for a multifaceted experience.
BetterHelp offers video/phone chat weekly with counselors which is beneficial for people who may need more support than others. That’s 4 sessions a week. You can’t beat this offer. In addition to the awesome counselors and unlimited journaling - there are the groupinars (group webinars). They vary in topic and are offered multiple times daily. Some are even recurring so you always have a chance to join in and uplift yourself. I love BetterHelp and don’t see myself canceling my subscription anytime soon.
(There are a couple of different membership offers so you’re not totally locked in for a month if you don’t want to be. There are savings in doing so!)
Length of Use: Less than 3 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Counselors
Journaling
Price
Groupinars (it’s hard to get questions answered when there are 200+ people talking at once)

BetterHelp has made therapy accessible and affordable. Before this, I had tried to see several low-cost therapists in my area but they were always flaky, never getting back in touch with me and booking months in advance. BetterHelp has taken the hassle out of this experience and provided me with a simple and comfortable way to get the therapy I need.
Length of Use: 3–6 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons

So far, having therapy with a counselor on BetterHelp.com has been such a wonderful experience!
Even if you're having financial troubles, BetterHelp provides several options and is quite flexible with their patrons. I contacted customer support and was able to discuss a plan that worked best for me. The representative was very polite and kind! She was also incredibly patient with all my questions, answering them in great detail. BetterHelp is really wonderful and flexible. I'll be sure to continue therapy with them!

Finding myself at a crossroads in life, I realized I needed help navigating my way. I talked to family, friends, even a life coach, but still felt shaky in my decision making. I think choosing a path after retirement from one's main occupation is even harder than the original occupational choice, because there is less time left to recover if you lose your way.
With a promo code from a podcast, I felt that BetterHelp was worth a shot. They advertise that if you are unsatisfied with their match for you in any way, you can just say so, and they'll find a new match. They live up to their promise. I'm still puzzled how they chose the first match, whose specialty is relationships, when relationships were not on the radar of where I most acutely need help. But the second match's resume looked more aligned with what I felt I needed, and so I began.
This second match has worked very well, in conjunction with BetterHelp's journaling feature. I've tried many times to keep a journal, and always lost interest, but BetterHelp has kept me going. You can share your journal entries with your counselor, which I do routinely. He replies quickly, often mirroring my entry back well enough that it feels as though my journal is talking back to me. Maybe that's what keeps me at it. The combination of the journal and the responsive counselor has led me to ask new questions of myself, which makes me hopeful of finding some new answers to help me navigate the intersection.
Length of Use: Less than 3 months
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Pros and Cons
Price - makes it feel safe to try
The ease of trying different matches
The journal, and the option to share it with the counselor
I wish the counselor was paid to spend Monday mornings catching up on weekend entries
The auto matchmaker made a very puzzling match the first time
It doesn't tell you how the connection will be made before your first video conference

I have been using BetterHelp for 3 months since COVID-19 shutdowns and my therapy has been great. The platform is very easy to navigate, they have a very detailed assessment that paired me with a professional that is a great fit for my therapy needs. They also have an option to journal and send reminders so you can keep track of your thoughts and whatever it is you're seeking to work on through therapy. Overall, I am pleased with my experience and I highly recommend this platform.

BetterHelp has been a game-changer for me during these stressful and unpredictable times. I was skeptical at first to join online therapy service, as I really prefer the feeling of sitting in front of someone, however, with quarantine forcing us all to go online, I decided to give it a try. I’m so happy I did. I appreciate that BetterHelp checks in after each session to see how helpful it was. If it wasn’t, they give you the option to pick a new therapist. It makes shopping around for the right therapist way less stressful and expensive. I have found a therapist I love and am so grateful!

I absolutely love BetterHelp.com. I love the platform and my therapist is amazing. She has been able to help me see all the different sides of my issues. She has also helped when I have felt down. She is very prompt and I love that I can contact her whenever and not have to wait just for my next appointment time.
The website gives my therapist the ability to send me worksheets and papers to work toward my goals as well as setting personal goals to keep me accountable.
I also really like the groupinars this site puts on. They can elaborate on the information you are working with your therapist and it gives an opportunity to connect with others that are in a similar situation.

I have now used BetterHelp for over three months. At first the counselor I was matched with didn’t suit my needs (time difference and just a little unresponsive) but BetterHelp was great; I switched to somebody else and they gave me a free so I didn’t lose out. Great customer service! I was able to find a counselor I really clicked with and the sessions changed my life.
It’s great value for money - I've been having one session a week but have also been able to message my counselor in between, this has given me lots of help and advice when needed. There are also webinars which I like to try going forward. This service has changed my life.

I was extremely skeptical of using this online platform, how could I possibly build a therapeutic relationship with a counselor I'm texting? But I was going through so much at the time that I just said why not let's try it. I'm so thankful I did because whenever I need someone to talk to, I can text my counselor right away. They get to me promptly, plus there's phone calls and video options available, so it can still be a very personal therapeutic relationship literally at any moment.
