Absolutely the best

By Nicole W., Asheville, NC, Verified Reviewer

I can't recommend Noom enough. Coming from a psychology background, I know how difficult behavioral change can be, and how you have to approach it from lots of angles and with lots of support to make lasting change. Noom is on top of this! The articles and activities are engaging, the coaches are super helpful and friendly, and the app functions really well.

I really like that Noom teaches you healthy habits for your whole life. While the focus is on weight loss, I would recommend Noom to anyone who simply wants to eat healthier, move more, sleep better, exercise smarter, and have less stress. I've been able to form habits that I have wanted to adopt for years but have never been successful at keeping up the momentum.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Noom is great

By Mitchell S., Florida, Verified Reviewer

I have just completed 8 weeks of a 16-week program and have lost over 20 lbs. I have learned to make much better food and life choices. Noom is an educational curriculum, not a diet. You learn so much about food choices and how they impact your health. The weight loss is just a positive byproduct of learning. So this is a positive post for all the negative ones.

If you stick with Noom, learn, and you will change your life.

SCAM!

By Kim B., Florida, Verified Reviewer

I joined on January 3rd to help with my New Year's resolution. The site said there was a $1 fee, which I paid. The app is basically a glorified pedometer and food log, with lots of pre-programmed, generic "support" statements sent to you daily.

You are supposed to weigh in every day, which is NOT recommended when losing weight. The "support" from your "coach" is a robotic text sent every 3-4 days.

At 2 and 1/2 weeks, I was charged $149! For what? They do nothing for you! I disputed it with PayPal, but they sided with Noom. Said it was a pre-authorized charge. I would never have authorized any app to charge me $149!

When you call Noom all you get is an automated message about canceling. Doesn't anyone think its strange that their answering message leads with that? They tell you to contact your "coach" to request cancellation and a refund. Once you do, nothing happens except that all messages from your "coach" stop.

STAY AWAY!

The most painless "diet" yet

By Amanda L., Georgia, Verified Reviewer

I've been very pleased with Noom! I've fought my weight my entire life, and Noom is the first program that has addressed my weight in such a holistic way - taking into account my mind, body, and environment. I feel even in this short time that I have learned so much about myself, why I eat, what my hurdles are, and what my potential is, that my life is definitely changed for the better.

Definitely try Noom. Once you address all of these aspects, your relationship with food will change!

Best ever!

By Kimberly E., New Mexico, Verified Reviewer

I used Weight Watchers in the past and it was successful, but then I got a couple of patches that changed my weight and my ability to lose it. First was positive. I met my wonderful man. We were both in excellent physical condition, but we both love to eat and drink as entertainment. We both gained approximately 30-40 pounds. Then we moved to a smaller town with very few options for weight loss support. In addition, my father and stepdad passed away and my son became embroiled in very serious law enforcement and mental issues. I'm an emotional eater, so none of that helped me be motivated. I was miserable and I knew my weight and lack of self-confidence was making everything worse.

I discovered Noom. It was different because the support was right there on my phone and didn't require finding meetings that were in the area and fit my schedule. I was shocked that Noom wanted me to weigh every day. I thought I wouldn't see enough loss or gain to be motivated. I was completely wrong. It helped me lasso my eating issues because I did see quick results. The humorous style of the program made a huge difference too. It wasn't the usual dry, "if you eat this, you WILL gain weight." I learned that all or nothing thinking like that took away my control over my weight and made me really hard on myself. With my logging food, the color system, my coach and group, I was able to lose 20 pounds. I love the graph that shows my weight loss. It is very motivating.

My only problem with Noom is that I can't always afford the monthly fee. If it isn't paid, my support slides down until I end up on the very sparse free version. Noom isn't any more expensive than some of the other programs, but it is still hard for me. It's a little discouraging to see the various parts of Noom slide away day by day, until there is almost nothing left. It feels a little like blackmail. But once again, it's not any more expensive than any other programs and I know they need to pay their bills too.

Update

Although they initially refused, to their credit when I filed a second complaint, they did refund the $129 I had been charged.

EYE OPENING

By Jennifer S., Benalto, Alberta, Canada, Verified Reviewer

Hello, first time I have ever done this so I have no other comparisons. I wanted to feel better and lose about 15 pounds, that was my target. It's the ease of having the resources there daily to tackle it on your own and take as far as you want to.

What I like:

Everything together helped me to change my food choices for the better. I was eating pretty good but, I turned it up a level eating way more veggies and less dense foods. It was tough at first because you go through changes in habit, behavior, taste in foods. The calorie budget has really helped to see just how much I was overdoing it. Paying attention to labels and serving size/calories was an eye-opener for me! There are a lot of non-foods on the shelves or misleading ones, and I can see how people grab the stuff because it's quick and easy BUT it's such garbage foods.

What I dislike:

I like that the pedometer is built in BUT it's not accurate or doesn't work at all.

The food finder could be cleaned up - if you can scan it no problem but, the items added are not consistent as they come up by brand or name. I realize that items are being added from all over the world, so I get it.

I thought the group support would have been more on a direct contact base and give daily coaching or something to that effect.

The goal coach hasn't been as often as I would have thought, not seeing much benefit there.

SCAM all the way

By Dawn L., Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I gave them the info requested to see how the app worked, believing there "free trial" info.

I then canceled it within three days. I unsubscribed.

Low and behold I had a charge on my credit card a month later. I have asked to have it reversed and remove my information as I unsubscribed within the time frame allotted.

I have as yet heard nothing back.

I'll keep you posted.

Worked for me

By Christie T., Kentucky, Verified Reviewer

I am an educated person that could have looked up all of what Noom offers if I didn't know it already. I could track my own foods and my weight. However, I love the app because it appeals to my phone addicted lifestyle, is a constant reminder (because I am horrible with accountability and followthrough), and serves as a resource all in one place. Of course, we all could do this on our own but some of us just need that "cheerleader." I have lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks without depriving myself of foods I love, so yes, it has worked for me. If it was such common sense, everyone would be at their goal weight.

Noom is for those who are serious about weight loss

By Priscilla P., Torrance, CA, Verified Reviewer

I lost successfully on WW but then gained some of the weight back. After returning to the program, they eventually switched to Freestyle. This did not work for me, because people who need to lose weight need structure, not a free for all. That is how we got fat in the first place.

I like Noom because it is informative, strategic and helps with concepts such as the Elephant and its Rider, which is a powerful visual of how we struggle with our weight. I am a slow loser, but found my Group and Individual Coach to be helpful and motivating. I love the weight graph which projects how quickly I can attain my goal as it tells me "hey someone has faith in me when I have no faith in myself." And as I have lost, that faith in myself has begun to grow, and I know I can do this. I love the food analysis, as I strive to eat healthier and I can check that in the middle of the day to see where I am and what I can change.

NOOM works if you work and are serious. I love that it is a Behavior Change program because I needed behavior changes. Noom has taught me to be friends with all foods and what place they all have in my life. I would highly recommend.

Ok

By Jonathan T., Fort Collins, CO, Verified Reviewer

I the root of it all is basically just your standard calorie counting app. They do offer some insight into proper eating techniques but the app is antiquated and hard to use. Simple things like the food barcode scanner don't work well and their food database is shallow at best.
