Excellent experience

My experience was very quick and easy. All the workers were very nice. I think everyone should try out SmileDirectClub. You don’t have to go through an orthodontist and the price is way cheaper.

Aligner works, but NO DELTA DENTAL coverage

So first, the aligners work, and the process is all fine.

BUT,

I know it is the buyer's job top check with insurance on coverage, SmileDirect does not promise insurance reimbursement, but they make it sound as if there is always a possibility. They know, and knew, that Delta dental does NOT cover this treatment. Mail-order services are not covered by Delta Dental.

SmileDirect insurance dept made it appear as if they tried to work with Delta Dental, and support my claim, but when speaking with Delta Dental (3 different states) they make it clear that 1st the treating Orthodontist is not registered with them, and that they do not cover this treatment, and if SmileDirect really had called them to investigate my coverage, they would have told them over and over again that SmileDirect mail-order treatments are NOT covered.

SmileDirect later explained that, YES, some insurance does not cover mail order treatments. Funny they used the same term. They knew exactly, all along, but did not share or warn me up front.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Mediocre

SmileDirect did alright for straightening my teeth - there is no doubt that they have improved, but I still have 2 teeth that stubbornly won't move. I have contacted the company, and spent weeks in back and forth emails trying to get a re-evaluation, and they have "customer service care" individuals who basically are the go-betweens with the actual orthodontists. They keep telling me I need to send in pics, and when I do, I need to label which teeth are a problem, etc. etc. I have sent countless emails and their customer service is NON EXISTENT. Basically, you get what you get. For the $1800, you better hope it works because there is no recourse. It would be a great deal for straightening teeth if they would work out their lack of customer service.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Never hear back

I have seen a difference in my teeth yes, which is great...Except for my 2 front teeth where I still have a gap and only a month to go. But we will see what happens in the next 4/5 weeks. Anyway, the customer service is terrible. About 2 months ago I lost the purple stick to remove your aligners. Took over SIX emails and TWO weeks to get one. (And a little fee, but that's okay.) Taking aligners out without that was so difficult. I dunno why that took so long. Last month I got an aligner that didn't fit and the back and forth emails took over A WEEK so I skipped a week. And now this week my aligners cracked last night and still haven't heard back via email. Been over 12 hours. And asking for another purple stick as I left mine at work over the weekend. Hopefully, it doesn't take 2 weeks again. Yes, we don't pay as much as you do at the dentist but for over $2,400 I would expect way better customer service than this. This are my teeth we're talking about and a lot of money I've invested and time.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

11-18-19 Update

Changed my recommendation to a no because I'm trying to get my retainers and twice I ordered them online and they never went through so I had to call and order them. Then I get an email saying I'll get my retainers in 2-3 weeks but now it's been a month and still nothing. I contacted them and they say they sent a request to see where my order is but it's going to take 3-5 business days just to get a response. Are you kidding me? My aligners they tell you to keep wearing until you get your retainers are again breaking! I don't know what happened to this company because everything seemed to be going smoothly at first but not anymore, this is ridiculous. Try another invisible aligner service because they don't know what they're doing here.

Adjust for of aligners

I had ordered aligners a year ago, but returned all, inside of left bottom protruded way out. A molding problem. They were great on accepting the return and refund money. Ordered again. Just received aligners. Both top and bottoms have excess plastic along the bottom of tooth mold, on the inside, perpendicular to the tooth. Bothers and hurts my tongue.

Tried filling, but found I could very carefully cut with sizzles the excess plastic, leaving a small edge along the tooth molded shape. No sharp edge now. So I will check each set of aligners, and get rid of excess plastic. They are very comfortable now. You just have to be very careful cutting, leaving a little edge to support the molded shape.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Longterm success remains to be seen

Affordable.

At the initial consult, I wasn't made aware that I'd be paying $125 every 6 months for new retainers indefinitely after my month-long process.

How successful this process is remains to be seen (I'll give it a few years).

We offer these for $125 and suggest that they be replaced every 6 months. Employee staff Adrianna

I had gone to SmileDirectClub back in February. I met with the sweetest person ever, her name is Adrianna. We connected on a deep level. She was super generous, very accommodating, and understanding. I met with other staff, but Adrianna blew me away with her generosity and character. She made me feel like I was making the right choice, especially when I'm very insecure about my smile. Adrianna gets 5 stars, but the company gets 3 for these reasons.

Whether you choose SmileDirectClub, I do say you should check that out with your primary dentist first and have your own personal X-rays because SmileDirectClub doesn't actually do a deep X-ray, they only get a good visual of your smile and not your jaw and beyond that which can be dangerous if your smile needs a major fix. If it's a minor fix like myself, however, still get it checked out with your primary dentist, check for cavities and see if SmileDirectClub is for you.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Adrianna was very accommodating, made me feel very welcomed compared to other staff

Cheaper

Less time to wear it, great for people who have mild things they want to change about their smile

It was too fast, felt like it was too simple and that can be dangerous for someone who does not have mild tooth errors

X-ray was not really an x-ray, just a visual of your smile and not your jaw bone like other orthodontics do, can be dangerous for mild or even major changes to teeth

Won't check for cavities or tooth infections, YOU need to that yourself before hand to save your self the trouble and pain

SmileDirect in-person experience

The tech was very sweet. Stark setting. Unsanitary equipment.

The tech had on blue surgical gloves she used to handle all equipment including iPad and 3D scanner. She put gloves after being all over the equipment into my mouth with the camera. I saw no alcohol or bleach products to clean equipment from one customer to another.

Now I have a summer cold, quite possibly because the equipment was not cleaned from what I could see.

Also, the gloves were not sanitary because the tech did not change them from the previous patient and kept them on even after handling the iPad that consumes touch all morning long.

One gets what one pays for. This is fact.

However, the tech very sweet in her chair side manner. The staff could use training in sanitary practice and the office could use some cheer from its stark appearance.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Very disappointed

I will not recommend it. If I would be able to turn the time, more than 100% I will not choose SmileDirectClub to fix my bite. They made a promise they could not deliver. They did not deliver in my case. Very disappointed.
