Horrible life decision

By John C., Winston Salem, NC, Verified Reviewer

This company is horrible, I wasted $2k. I used their aligners as prescribed for months, still had gaps between teeth, they make me wear more for 4 months and I still had gaps. And my teeth started biting together weird, and it was hard to chew food. I contacted them and they decided they wanted to charge me more money to fix the problem. PLEASE don’t waste your time or money. I regret it every time I see their stupid purple advertisements with fake models.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Customer Service with SmileDirect is horrible

By Lindsey R., Byron, IL, Verified Reviewer

So, I have had SmileDirect for 6 months, wore my retainers like I was told, and have not seen any results! I tried calling multiple times telling them how unhappy I was and how I wanted to speak with a manager! Their customer service sucks. I would get disconnected, send emails and would not respond. I finally got ahold of a manager (May) and she is telling me they will only give me a 25% refund! Absolutely unacceptable! I spent $2000 on this to see results! I am a single parent and cannot afford to just give $2000 to a product that does not work! I asked to speak to her manager because I want a full refund like it states and May told me I would have to wait 2 to 3 days to hear back.

I am beyond disgusted with this company and would NOT recommend using this to anyone! If I have to write bad reviews every day until I hear back and get my refund, I sure will!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Two months later, no aligners and no one cares

By Tabitha B., Princeton, NJ, Verified Reviewer

A PSA I wish I read before doing it - they changed their production system in the last two months (read January-ish of 2019) without informing customers and it has resulted in super long wait times, like my aligners were supposed to be delivered over a month ago. Customer service is of zero help and gives you new information every time you ask, and have very little communication with what's actually going on (even the supervisors). Supervisor personally emailed me promising to get back to me and never did, not even after two follow up emails.

My ship date went from early March to 3/18 to 3/25 to 4/01 with no end in sight. Social media presence is a lie - they delete the experiences people share in their comments sections and threaten to block them if they continue. 100% waste of money and a terrible experience. Would encourage anyone still considering the treatment to pay in the payment plan so if they dick you over like this, then you can just stop the payments.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hi Tabitha, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We did have an issue with delayed shipments, but have identified the issue and shouldn't have any delays going forward. For any orders that are still delayed, we should be able to provide an updated ETA. If there's anything that we can do to help, please email us at grinners@smiledirectclub.com. Best, Madison.

Not upfront with clients, don't live up to expectations. Decent product.

By David Restrepo, Texas, Verified Reviewer

Very unsatisfied with the end result and time it takes to receive aligners.

First, I'm told it's going to take 7 and a half months, but they lost one of the shipments and delayed the process by two weeks. Then I see my Smile on the last aligner and my Smile still needs work, so I called customer service, got an email and followed directions on what to do and got a response after 10 saying I was "approved for refinement." What if I don't know any better and don't say anything at all believing that my treatment is over and that's the best that can be done to my smile?

I went the next day to get the scans done at an office and checked today that my case has been approved but got no notification from the company. I called customer service and they say it’s going to take 3 to 4 more weeks to get new aligners, so all in all, 2 months wasted.

I see real potential for complaints and lawsuits opportunity as the company relies on client expertise or sense of knowledge in Orthodontics to yield the results we are paying for but not delivered. I do not see anywhere on brochures or website disclosing that company may not deliver expected results and client should consult with third-party specialist or SmileDirectClub for final results. This is the closest to fraud and advertising as it can get.

Nevertheless, I will escalate this to American Board of Orthodontics to see how they can make companies like this be more accountable with products and expected results.

Oh, and I will post this everywhere I can to promote awareness.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hi there. As with any medical procedure, we cannot guarantee results. This information is clearly outlined in the consent and history form that all customers sign before beginning treatment. That being said, we offer midcourse corrections and reevaluation to account for teeth not tracking as projected. This is a normal aspect of all aligner treatment from our aligners to traditional orthodontics. If you have any other questions, please reach out via grinners@smiledirectclub.com.

Have not received aligners, paid $1800.00.

By Pamela Zappa, Hudson, WI, Verified Reviewer

They were happy to send an impression kit, but once I sent them money on November 6, 2017, I have not gotten my aligners. I called last week and was told they would get back to me within 24 hours; crickets! Is this a scam? And to top it off, they said my dental insurance would cover some of the costs, but MetLife denied my claim! I paid $1800.00 for nothing!

Very Happy with Smile Direct Club

By CiCi Elle, New Port Richey, FL, Verified Reviewer

I started SmileDirectClub back in August and I'm currently on tray 11 of 16. So far I'm very happy with my results and can't wait until I complete my treatment plan. I wanted Invisalign for years but it's too much money for me. Smile Direct Club was in my budget and I did a ton of research prior as well.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Do not get scammed!

By Carolyn Severance, Bowie, MD, Verified Reviewer

Do not get scammed into the hype of this dishonest and bogus company. They are frauds.

I had a 4-month plan. The entire 4 months my bottom aligner never fit properly. After several calls, I kept getting "it will take time." Well, 4 months passed and my bottom teeth never shifted. What a waste of money, time, pain, etc.

After taking additional impressions, I was approved once again to receive an aligner correction, which would only take an additional 4 weeks. Well, I’m writing this at 7 weeks and no aligners.

After several calls and having to call BBB, I received a bogus email that my aligners was shipped with an unknown tracking number. So once again I called and was hung up on with several representatives, with one telling me "oh, the tracking number is incorrect so I'll have to look into getting a correct one." I’m still waiting.

At this point, if BBB cannot do anything I will sue the company for all money, as well as for pain and suffering. Please be advised, sometimes it's worth paying more to get the quality and service you desire.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Smile Direct Club

Mar 7, 2018

Hi Carolyn. We would like to clarify that it's a normal aspect of aligner treatment for additional treatment time to be added on. This is due to the fact that it's not possible to predict exactly how fast a person's teeth will move. We will always prescribe reevaluation free of charge when it is necessary to achieve optimal alignment in line with the SmilePlan provided.

This company is such a scam, took $250 then drafted money for 5 months

By Cris C., Oklahoma, OK, Verified Reviewer

This company is such a scam. They never sent me anything but they took $250 and drafted money from my account for four months. When I call and try to get my money back they said they don't have any record of taking anything. They should not be in business any longer. When I called and told them to delete my card info, they said they would, but then this month draft out another $87.50.

They are a bunch of thieves

By Nicole M., Brooklyn, NY, Verified Reviewer

I don’t know where to start.

First off, for the amount of time I have worn these aligners, to the amount of money I am stuck paying, is ridiculous.

I was put on a 4-6 month plan, and I am paying for 2 years. If I had just gone to my regular orthodontist, it actually would have been cheaper. These people do not care for your teeth or your wallet appropriately.

Second, they are a bunch of thieves.

After my VERY short wear of the aligners came the retainers. Now it cost about $100 for your retainers.

Knowing my time was due for my second set, I appropriately called their "customer care specialist" (which by is a joke of a title, so use that title loosely) to inform them that I did not want them. The woman who I was on the phone with ASSURED me that I would not be charged for it, and that I was NOT on the list they have to get money automatically removed. She informed me for them to take the money out that I would have to either submit a request for the retainers or call myself for them.

Third, they are a bunch of liars.

The very next day after my very detailed phone call, I get a notice from my bank informing me that SmileDirectClub withdrew $100 from my account. For what? You guessed it, the very retainers that I called the previous day about and was assured three times by this woman that they would not take out.

I called back about this ridiculous charge. Turns out their "customer care specialist" made what they called a slight error, but in reality, was just a ridiculous lie. I was, in fact, on the list for them to automatically take out the money for the retainers. And she NEVER took me off of it after she reassured me three times that I would not be charged for something I didn’t want, but I was ultimately charged for the following day after our phone call.

Fourth, their customer care service, if you can even call them that, is a joke. And their product is unfair and overpriced. For the time of the length of wear, these people are crooks and liars, and have done the bare minimum to actually "put a smile on my face."

Buyer beware.

Would not use

By Hajara T., New York, NY, Verified Reviewer

I wouldn't recommend that anyone use SmileDirectClub. When using their aligners, while on week 3/4, I could feel an intense amount of pressure on my front tooth but assumed that it was just because the aligners were trying to push it into the right place. For a week the pressure continued and I began having a pain in my tooth. At one point my tooth just started hurting all the time, I was not even able to drink cold beverages, and had to cover my mouth when I walked outside due to to the pain caused when my tooth felt the cold air. I called them and reached out to them and they kept trying to tell me that it was just regular tooth sensitivity, and I had to keep telling them that I have never felt this kind of sensitivity and that it did not feel like some small issue.

After I had to keep calling them, they finally budged and told me to send in pictures. After like two days is when my tooth turned like a reddish brownish color, I started panicking and I emailed them and called them and got no response all they did was tell me to go to my dentist.

When I went to my dentist he said that I had reversible Pulal Hyperemia, and that meant that my tooth had internal bleeding due to the amount of pressure that was on it, he said that if the blood infects the tooth that I would have to have a root canal. He also scolded me for using SmileDirectClub and stated that if the pain was caused due to their aligners that they should be the ones to examine it, that they should not just tell me to go to my dentist. I reached out to them one more time and let them know I would no longer be using their retainers and explained the situation, then an account manager called me and told me I would be getting a full refund, even after I told her I was on Month 4, week 3/4, they claimed that I should send my retainers to them and it would take seven business days to process.

After the seven business days, they reached out to me and said I would not be getting a full refund because I used after Month 1, but I explained to her that I had already told her I was on Month 4, 3/4, and I had said it in my emails too. She was clearly lying because even from when she called I know my account should have said Month 4, 3/4, so currently I am waiting to hear back from my dentist to know if I should have a root canal or not.

Through this traumatic experience, SmileDirectClub has been no help at all, I would not recommend you go to them because if there is an issue, they won't assist you at all.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Do not use!

By Michael B, Chicago, IL, Verified Reviewer

Do not use SmileDirectClub. They are a total scam. They have the worst customer service. They always give you the runaround. I emailed to have mine canceled and was told it was canceled and I would not be charged again. And they charged me and claim the agent who called in response to my email was not authorized to cancel orders. Still, I don’t understand how an agent they hired and trained called me to cancel my order if they weren’t authorized to cancel my order.

I thankfully disputed with my bank and they sided with me. But I still lost $500! Please be warned, do NOT use this service.
