Mixed feelings

By Mary Z., Orangeville, IL, Verified Reviewer

I like the overall concept of Noom. Things I wish that were available is access via a laptop. As an older individual, I prefer reading this way vs. on my phone. I wish the analysis of food would show when logging the food, instead of having to do another click to see what category a food falls in to AFTER eating it vs. before.

The weekly individual coach is a bit of a joke. There is no benefit to having that. You get brief lines of text and nothing of substance to motivate you or encourage you. I am glad I had a huge discount that I could use, I would never pay full price for this. There are way too many acronyms, it all just gets jumbled, into yea whatever you want to call it - just give me the facts please and an easier way to recall. Again maybe it's my age and the younger generations appreciate this.

Not what it’s cracked up to be - for me!

By Carol H., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I was on the Noom program for the two-week trial plus a month and I was not able to lose. I’m a fit older woman with 15 pounds to lose. I eat clean as a rule (before Noom) but have portion control issues and night snacking problems. I used a scale to weigh portions and the app to track - but I cannot understand why to no avail.

My coach was not at all helpful - in fact, the responses seemed "canned" and I’m left feeling the coach was a bot. And no group - for whatever reason I was never assigned a group. So, all in all, I wasted my time, my energy, my MONEY on this. I could have just picked up any self-help book. Where was the contact - where was the relationship that is so important in this type of Endeavor? Sorry but not worth the money or emotional commitment.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

So far so good

By Rachel A., North Carolina, Verified Reviewer

I was hesitant at first and pushed back a bit the first week or two. Then I just said, "screw it" and really did what the app was telling me to do and it started to work! Now I really enjoy checking all the boxes and meeting my goals. It motivates me every day to get things done. Hoping this will be more successful than other attempts at weight loss in the past.

Somewhat disappointing

By Rich C., Chicago, IL, Verified Reviewer

Content:

PROs - Noom has great content, for the most part. They really do a deep dive on the psychology behind eating and what causes us to overeat as humans. There are a whole lot of different factors and Noom addresses all of these factors. You can count on learning new information each day that can help you in your journey

CONs - Noom doesn't have a great system for ensuring its users retain this information and practice the tips that are given. There are occasionally quizzes that test your knowledge but other than that, there is virtually no accountability that what you learn is actually put into practice.

Food Tracking/Weight Input:

PROs - It's very helpful to log my food directly within the app and they have a great way to show you what foods are calorically dense, something no other food tracker has. The weight tracker provides a nice visual

CONs - The food database seems to be all user-generated, so if a user hasn't input the same type of food you're eating, you'll either have to add it yourself or just have to wing it. Not a huge deal, though.

Coaching:

PROs - Very nice folks.

CONs - I hate to use a word like "useless," but I don't know a more constructive way to describe them. They do absolutely nothing but check in once a week. They ask how you're doing and then ask what you want to do that week. They expect you to know what is best for you that week and then they just agree with you and then you don't hear from them for a week. Noom's selling point in their marketing is their Goal specialists/Coaches. This has been a HUGE disappointment, through and through. There is no actual apparent interest in looking at your personal progress and figuring out a gameplan for you. For being so focused on the psychology behind eating and weight loss, they seem to give no credence whatsoever to the importance of external motivation. When you challenge any Noom staff member on this, their line of defense is "Our program focuses on you making your own decisions, rather than someone else telling you what to do." OK, that's great. Why not wipe out the goal specialist altogether? Why try to cover all these bases of a traditional nutritional program when it's going to be half-assed?

Everybody's different, sure, and I'm sure some people are happy with their coaches. As for me, this has been far from effective and the main reason I wouldn't recommend Noom.

Noom made me believe I could lose weight

By Lorin Y., Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

I am a 60-year-old woman who is at least 40 lbs away from a normal BMI reading. I have tried WW, Jenny Craig, the South Beach Diet, and many other diet plans over the past 30 years.

I kept seeing Noom ads in my Pinterest feed. I thought it was "WW for Millenials." I had given up on any "diet" and was doing my best by cooking at home. I had read several articles over the past couple of years about how the body has a set point and that people who lost significant amounts of weight were hardly ever able to keep it off.

However, I design mobile apps and eLearning, and I signed up for Noom just to see how they compared to WW. What I didn't expect is that I would be impressed by the science behind weight loss, behavior change, and habit formation. Noom's presentation of information is light-hearted, funny, almost cartoon-like, but there is real science behind everything they do. They make it fun to change habits, to check in every day, to monitor behaviors.

I also like how no food is off limits and their red-yellow-green classification of nutrition.

I have used the app for 6 weeks and have lost 5 lbs so far. I have 15 lbs to go in 10 weeks.

I really like Noom. It's smart and fits my busy lifestyle.

Best app ever

By Karla I., Del City, OK, Verified Reviewer

I have tried many weight loss methods over the years with little to no success. Noom has been pleasantly different for me this time. I started with the free 14-day trial in January. It went so well I signed up for the 4-month trial. Noom goes beyond counting calories and fat grams, it helps you explore the roots of WHY you overeat and/or eat unhealthy foods. I have lost 20 pounds in 2 months without feeling deprived or desperately craving cookies! The Noom app has a visual way to see what you are eating every day which I have found extremely helpful. I already knew to eat more fruits;/veggies but the app really puts food in context for me. I had a healthy vegetable frittata recipe before Noom but did not realize how many extra calories I was adding to it. With the Noom app, I am able to reduce the olive oil and cheese without sacrificing taste and making the dish much healthier. I highly recommend Noom! The app helps you to view food differently so in the future you can make the healthy choices without needing the app. Five stars!

Awesome

By Debbie G., Gold Coast, Australia, Verified Reviewer

I joined Nom on November 20th, 2018 it is now March 19th, 2019 and I am 54lbs lighter. Noom is amazing. It's easy to follow and gives you lots of practical advice and support. It allows you to go eat what you want (within the calorie limit). I have tried Weight Watchers, etc. and this is by far the easiest diet I have ever used. I totally love it.

Pleased at first, with positive results, but poor customer service and follow up.

By Kimberly G., Columbus, OH, Verified Reviewer

My first experience with Noom was very successful, I lost a total of 33 lbs, plus inches, and was able to totally change my way of eating for the betterment of my life, thank you Noom. I am experiencing some stress and anxiety now because of the poor customer service that I am receiving( zero so far). I am paying for a subscription that I do not have access to, I cannot cancel it at my banking institution, and I cannot get anyone at Noom to even respond, all I get is auto responses, I even check my spam, junk mail, and nothing is there. I am so very frustrated right now because I feel like I am being taken advantage of. I wish someone would respond, and help to figure all this out. I am currently reporting the incident to the Better Business Bureau, and my State Attorney General's Office.

Disappointed in the price

By Crista E., Adairsville, GA, Verified Reviewer

I was very excited to start my journey on Noom. I have had success with other programs in the past, but I always fall back into my old habits and slowly gain the weight back over time. I was willing to pay the pricey amount for the program in the hopes that it would lead to a permanent lifestyle change.

When I joined and saw the opportunity to get $20.00 off for referring friends I thought this would offset the cost. I had three friends who had never heard about Noom decide to learn more and fill out the questionnaire. After doing this they received email offers for 50% and eventually 80% off to join the program. It is hard to compete with this and get someone to sign up using your link that only offers 20% off. I feel that Noom should take better care of their paying customers and was insulted that someone could get the same program for a lot less than I am paying. I am planning to cancel my subscription at the end of the eight weeks I have paid for.

Noom makes the difference

By Lanie D., North Carolina, Verified Reviewer

I have come to really respect and value each day with Noom. At first I was like, okay, so what now? They've totally surprised me. I have a much better grasp on understanding myself, being responsible for my actions and am rebuilding my own confidence in myself.

Noom's PsychTips are so valuable. There is no program like this out there. It's SO realistic and fits into my life so easily. I like to go back and re-read articles I've saved just to remind myself of certain tricks.

Noom is the best thing I've done for myself. Thanks, Noom!

Rip Off

By Michael F., Madison, WI, Verified Reviewer

I am not a runner or walker, I swim. Noom can't handle that.

So much for automated coaching. Too bad I didn't get a human.

Now they are charging me $129 for nothing. What a scam!!

But then what should you expect but another get rich quick scheme.

I'll bet they delete this review.
