BetterHelp is great but…

By Fisayo O., Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

I absolutely love BetterHelp! I love its services and its benefits and all that it provides. It’s an absolute godsend! The only thing that I would love to change is if they added another tier in their financial payment options. As a college student, my funds are very limited, but I do love therapy, it’s been able to help me keep my head on straight in trying times. BetterHelp is great, but with my financial situation, it wasn’t exactly sustainable long-term. I was on the lowest tier that they offer, $160 a month, and that was still a significant amount. I know that they offer some sort of financial assistance, but not everyone qualifies for that, even though they really need it. So I would hope that they can be able to like find another way for the therapy to be more accessible financially.

Also, I didn’t appreciate that since I was on the lowest tire I saw that for people who paid more it didn’t that they got a little bit better treatment with faster responses and able to schedule more sessions which I guess that to do that for financial reasons to pay, the therapist tend to pay BetterHelp shareholders and executives. It just makes it seem that the people who pay less they’re not as important as the people who pay more.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Therapy was readily available and accessible.

I was able to fill out a questionnaire and connected to a great therapist and a quick period of time.

Flexibility in scheduling appointments is so great. Especially since I’m a college student, this was so incredibly helpful.

I love those able to connect with my therapist directly through my phone sent her a message able to schedule appointments so great that my therapist is so easily accessible.

I had to cancel my membership. The lowest here $160 a month is still a financial burden especially since I’m a college student and my finances are very very very limited.

I saw that for people who paid more got faster responses and were able to schedule more sessions, the therapist tend to pay BetterHelp shareholders and executives.

Lovely service, but critical flaws need fixing

By Rebecca S., New York City, NY, Verified Reviewer

This is a very good app, with a lot of potential. But, the main things that need to be addressed are the fees and journal feature on the app. I don't even use it. It would also be helpful if there were more evening and weekend group sessions.

First time in my life I felt like l am heard and got the help l needed.

By Mayra M., Jacksonville, FL, Verified Reviewer

I have my therapist almost every week and about to be a year now. With the help l got, l can tell you that my life has been 80% changed positively.

I don’t have any disease or mental illness or behavioral problems. I am an immigrant, single mother with no family support, also who was raised in a completely different culture where it is a male-dominated environment. And was raised like a people-pleaser. I have never spoken up or stood up in my relationship and always felt like l have been used by my friends and partners. My therapist really helped me to speak up for myself and gave me very helpful tools, worksheets….I got my self-worth and confidence back….I have never been happier and fulfilled in my life as of now. And being happy was the hardest thing for me.

I am very confident to talk with my therapist about all my feelings and emotions and thoughts. Even sharing my positive progress in my life. I would recommend everyone in this world to have a therapist….If you don’t like your therapist, you have so many other options with Better Help until you find someone who really good for you. Having online therapy is the easiest thing and the best thing you can do for yourself. It is worth the money you spend. Instead of going to shopping therapy and spending money on unnecessary things and feeling a temporary dopamine rush, just have a therapist and learn to be at peace with yourself.

Very pleased with my BetterHelp experience

By Iris E., Fayetteville, AR, Verified Reviewer

I feel that the BetterHelp team did a wonderful job at matching me with a therapist who is going to be able to meet my needs. After only 2 sessions, I feel very close to and connected with my therapist. I finally feel like I have found someone who has the space, knowledge, and experience to give me the help I have needed all my life. I feel that I am beginning to learn a lot about myself and why I feel the way I do. I am also very pleased with the affordability and convenience that the service provides. They have given me good discounts on the basis of me being a student and a low-income individual, which is what made it possible for me to begin therapy in the first place. I would recommend this service to anyone looking for effective, affordable therapy.

Easy, affordable and FAST.

By Grace W. , United Kingdom

The biggest barrier to getting appropriate mental healthcare for me in the past has been the lengthy wait on the NHS, and the high price and lack of access to private care. The fact that BetterHelp is set up to be affordable, including a reduced rate for people on a low income, and there for when you need help is brilliant.

There’s always a worry that you might not "click" with a therapist in real life, but with BetterHelp you put in your preferred therapy style and answer certain questions to be "matched" with a therapist that works to your preferred style.

I’m entering month 2 now and I’m feeling more like I’ve taken hold of my own life, I look forward to chatting g with my therapist every week and am so glad I took the time to invest in my own mental health.

Highly recommend to try

By Maryana D., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp exceeded my expectations from the get-go with the thorough questionnaire during registration. They were able to match me with a therapist that fit my criteria. The added big bonus is having access to group webinars that are presented by licensed mental health therapists. The webinars cover a range and extensive list of topics that focus on a particular matter (anxiety, depression, setting boundaries, wellness overall, etc.) and vary weekly. After registering for these webinars, the best part is that's recordings of them are sent to your email to view within the week. I highly recommend everyone to at least try for a month. It created a ripple effect of changes into my life. I’m very grateful.

Help at last

By Maggie M., Wichita, KS, Verified Reviewer

I was at a low point, almost beyond help. When I realized how low I was, I knew it was time to get help. After doing research, I was lost. There is so much information on the internet, so I found through my health insurance a local counseling office. When I found out how much it was to going to cost, I went back to the internet for other options. Looking at reviews I found BetterHelp. They matched me with RoShanna, who has been a guide, a mentor, a helping hand to pick me up and walk me toward a better, more positive life. My negative thinking had taken me to a deep dark place. If I ever find myself retracing my steps back to that place, I know she will be there to guide me back to a positive place. I definitely recommend them to anyone needing help.

Support for online therapy

By Liam F., Portland, ME, Verified Reviewer

I woke up one day and knew I had waited too long to sign up for therapy. When I needed to talk to someone, BetterHelp was there with a quick setup process that matched me with a therapist right away. Even though that first match didn't work, I trusted the process and within a week had a new therapist who I worked with for 11 months. The flexibility to log on anywhere is great, and the quality of care is excellent.

A brighter tomorrow

By Jamie J., Lindsay, OK, Verified Reviewer

My overall experience has been great! The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the initial amount of time it takes to be matched with a therapist. Initially, it took 5 days to be matched, and then it would have been another 9 days to meet with my therapist.

Unfortunately/fortunately the first therapist I was supposed to meet with did not feel like a great fit just based on our messaging. The 2nd therapist I had the pleasure of meeting with has truly been a gift from God. I’m so happy for taking the time to budget the cost of BetterHelp into my finances. Best choice I have made!

Helped me through communication difficulties with husband

By Kassie R., Appleton, WI, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp was my first choice of therapy because my work schedule is a little difficult to work around, with last minute changes and later appointments times needed. From the beginning, I felt supported by my therapist. The BetterHelp App also provides journaling prompts, and group sessions, if needed, in addition to or in-between regular therapy sessions. The app is easy to navigate, and I love that you can cancel anytime. The chat option with your therapist is also very convenient and nice to have.

Great service — some therapists are better than others.

By Kelli F., Philadelphia, PA, Verified Reviewer

I am very grateful to have BetterHelp as a resource. The therapist with whom I am currently working is amazing! I was working with a therapist about a year ago who was fine but definitely not at the same level of professionalism as the one with whom I work now. I stopped seeing them and then, a few months later, decided to give it another try. Be sure to find the right fit for you!

A great experience

By Ahmed Djallel Eddine S., Metz, France, Verified Reviewer

My overall experience with BetterHelp has been excellent. The platform provided me with a convenient and accessible way to access counseling and therapy services from the comfort of my own home. The process of signing up and getting started was straightforward, and I was quickly matched with a licensed mental health professional who specialized in the areas I was seeking support for.

The communication channels offered by BetterHelp, including messaging, live chat, phone calls, and video sessions, were all user-friendly and reliable. I particularly appreciated the flexibility of being able to communicate with my therapist through different channels, depending on my needs and preferences. This made it easy to stay connected with my therapist and maintain consistency in our sessions.

I found my therapist to be compassionate, empathetic, and highly skilled in her field. She provided me with a safe and non-judgmental space to explore my thoughts and feelings and offered practical tools and techniques to help me work through my concerns. I felt heard, understood, and supported throughout our sessions, and I noticed significant improvements in my mental health and well-being over time.

In addition to the high quality of care provided by my therapist, I appreciated the affordability and flexibility of BetterHelp's pricing plans. The platform made therapy more accessible and affordable to me, which was a huge factor in my decision to seek support through their services.

Overall, my experience with BetterHelp has been nothing but positive, and I would highly recommend their services to anyone seeking support and guidance for their mental health.

Vickie L is a scam therapist

By Mohamed Z., Virginia, Verified Reviewer

I’ve had one of my worst experiences with Vickie L as I expressed my emotions and secrets with her that have been bothering me throughout my life, and after my second session, I was completely ignored….ghosted like we have not been talking, or like she does not know me. I have no clue what to do since I have paid $300 for 3 sessions and now I feel like I’m being ripped off and roped for my money. I’m not sure if Vickie is a therapist or if she’s here to make friends for fun.

Why did I wait so long?

By Katherine G., Charleston, SC, Verified Reviewer

I first heard about BetterHelp on NPR (public radio) and was intrigued because I knew I needed to find a personal therapist after marriage counseling was not proving effective. I hunted for one via what I felt were all the conventional routes — referrals, the Psychology Today therapist website, online websites, local groups and practitioners, etc. I was having no luck and was about to give up when I remembered BetterHelp (which was cropping up everywhere). I was dubious because I assumed it was just a commercial aggregator of not-as-qualified therapists. But I was so wrong. BetterHelp has therapist matching down to a science, and even though I had to wait a little (demand is huge now across the US), I was pleasantly surprised when I was matched with the best therapist I have ever had. She is highly skilled and unbelievably helpful. I was a mess during our first session and she stuck with me so I wouldn't be scared off. I'm so happy I came back for a second session and gave it a chance because she is wonderful. I only wish sessions were longer! If you are considering therapy, do give BetterHelp a call or email. They make everything so easy and unintimidating. They DO have it down to a science.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

My therapist.

How simple and user-friendly everything is.

How they didn't let me drop off without searching for a really good therapist match for me.

Sessions feel too short! An hour would be better than 45 mins but I'll certainly take that.

The four-session charge before I knew I was OK with my therapist. Would prefer charge per session.

I had a very intense life experience and needed immediate help, so I reached out to BetterHelp, and I am so glad I did!
