Great service

By Kiyah H., Jacksonville, FL, Verified Reviewer

Overall this app is amazing, very attentive to helping you get the help you need. The only complaint I have is the sessions are only 30 minutes so it does feel a little rushed, but it gives a ton of information on the therapist and the whole website.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The active communication you have with your therapist

The easy-to-use app

Lots of resources

Sessions are a little short

Worth it

By Samantha S., Bozeman, MT, Verified Reviewer

I am really thankful for BetterHelp. Being able to be in the comfort of my own home where I feel safe and can talk to my therapist online. They’ve been a great option since all of the local therapists are busy and have no room for new clients.

I just wish BetterHelp accepted health insurance. It would be a HUGE financial help. Even though they do take HSA cards, if they did insurance, it would be better. Some days I have to choose between continuing therapy or other important things.

Overall, I still recommend them.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Being able to change my therapist if it doesn’t work out with the first

How quickly they respond

Can schedule up to 3 sessions at a time

Not taking insurance

Video calls aren’t always great (quality)

BetterHelp is a great way to get help fast. They have a very quick response. I have had 2 out 3 therapist that I have really enjoyed their services. I love the messaging your therapist. I try not to because I don't want to bother them, but I have and I have had great response back. I also like having the you choose how you want to do the services.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

My BetterHelp experience.

By James W., Astoria, OR, Verified Reviewer

I came to BetterHelp after I filed for divorce. My income is limited, I have ADHD, and I have more thoughts than I ever expected to share with a therapist once or twice a month. The text format helps me to organize my thoughts, the price is very reasonable, and the two therapists I've had were very different, but both were very competent therapists, and very helpful. I can't recommend this service enough to anyone seeking a good therapist.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The affordablity

The therapist is always there for you

The text format is very useful

You can't really request a therapist style

The therapists are classically trained, so don't expect ah-ha moments the second you start with them

Best of all time

By Ainakea K. , North Dakota

BetterHelp has worked around my every request. Getting the help you need through online services while being a stay-at-home mum has been a blessing. I also love that they provide scheduled online seminars educating around different topics regarding mental health. You can journal and choose whether to share it with your therapist or not. Video call, messaging throughout the week, and so much more. My therapist checks in on me weekly. She also responds very quickly to any journal entry I decide to share with her. BetterHelp is one of the best providers out there.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Journal entries and sharing

Seminars and the saved recordings if you miss it

My therapist is the most consistent

Accessible and affordable therapy

By Poppy R., Cumbria, United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

Signing up for the service was relatively easy and I gave enough information at the beginning to be suitably matched to a therapist. The therapist I was recommended is absolutely lovely and I feel like we've really clicked.

I initially paid full price for my sessions but with a quick email to customer services, I was refunded 25% of the cost as I am low-income and receive benefits. Overall a great service and it means I don't have to pay ridiculous amounts to get professional help.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The choice between video and audio calls, there's also an in-app messaging system

Easy to navigate website that also works well on my phone

Easy to cancel/reschedule weekly appointments

Wasn't clear how you apply for reduced costs right from the beginning

Getting help when you need it is important for everyone

By Taylor F., Dayton, OH, Verified Reviewer

For a while now I have been struggling with my mental health and got recommended BetterHelp by my sister, who also had it. To help with anxiety and depression and how to get to the root causes of it and to see if I can better myself while using this app. I was nervous at the start since I have never gone to therapy. But after my first two sessions with my therapist, my life has gotten easier. They offer worksheets and an active journal to document your process. And overall, it has been wonderful.

By using the techniques my therapist recommended and provided, I find myself more calm. I find myself blocking out the negative, and to find inner peace in the daily tasks I do.

If I could give this app 6 stars, I would. Because even just the little things such as activities and venting about what I am feeling at the moment. Have truly helped me. And my therapist has been wonderful to work with and to talk to. She takes her time to listen, to get to the core issues I have been having. I go by her words and do what she recommends, and each time it has worked out for me well. This app has been a blessing in disguise, all I needed was the right push to start and to break the stigma that therapy is okay. And that everyone should be able to reach out to someone, even if it's therapy. Because I need what I need. I need the help that I need, and I know what's good for me. And therapy was the right push to start on my self-healing journey.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The daily journal and worksheets I am provided

How active and responsive my therapist is

It is always readily available if I need to open it

I wish there were more tools to help me

I’ve only been using the BetterHelp app for a few weeks, but it’s so useful and handy. I can message my therapist at any point in the day if I have any issues that I would like to talk through or get help with. The choice of phone call, video call, or messaging your therapist during sessions is very helpful and accommodating, and having a space to journal your daily thoughts and feeling is very helpful for me.

A lifetime of searching, rewarded.

By Tyler D., Gaylord, MI, Verified Reviewer

I have spent a large portion of my life working on my mental health. Along the way, I have tried all the usual tricks: journaling, spirituality, exercise, self-help, and even cold therapy. I have tried in-person therapy in the past, and it always felt like a little piece was missing.

After ten years, I decided to give talk therapy another shot, and I am so glad that I did. It took a few weeks trying out different therapists, but Better Help encourages you to continue searching until you find a great match and gives you the tools to do so.

Jassmyne is a wonderful guide, and for the first time in my life, I feel seen, heard, and like I am finally on the path for which I was designed. I would recommend BetterHelp to people whether they are beginning their journey or have tried before. There is something fundamental about talk therapy to provide that perspective that may be slipping past.

BetterHelp is the best experience I have ever had with therapy!

By Jeff P., Dallas, TX, Verified Reviewer

I came to BetterHelp because I needed to start therapy quickly and without hassle. BetterHelp allowed me to accomplish that. They have daily group therapy sessions that are included, weekly live sessions with a therapist (one-on-one) where I get to choose the format (phone, video, chat), and I can message my therapist every day and he responds promptly to everything! Furthermore, the cost is much lower than competitors and traditional therapy. My therapist, Daniel, has helped me more in 3 sessions than most (if not all) other therapists have helped me in 6–12+ months! I highly recommend this wonderful service to anyone!

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

High quality therapy with choice of session format.

Unlimited daily/weekly group therapy sessions to attend if you want.

The price is very affordable (compared to most similar services).

I can message therapist during the week between sessions and receive responses/help.

Excellent resources

By Sany Lyn I. , Kailua-Kona, HI

Leah has gently done things, explained in analogy, speaking in a way to cause image/vision. I knew intellectually that the mind is powerful, but I’m getting a better feeling of what's that all about, which helped calm things down inside my chest and the glimpses of no sound. It seems to be just the surface work in my journey. I’m curious to see what deeper work will happen.

BetterHelp organized a list to match me with a therapist, and I thought I would have a few, there were many to consider. I saw two therapists before I stuck with Leah. BetterHelp, the platform is easy to use. I am pleased and impressed as more time passes.

I have done therapy for many years and having it over the phone is not a different way of delivery of learning techniques. Except it’s not in the presence of a human. The cost is half of what I typically pay to see an in-person therapist.

It’s been pleasant to have therapy wherever I may feel comfortable.

Great experience

By Joanna L., Greenwich, CT, Verified Reviewer

My experience with BetterHelp has been incredible. My therapist checks in with me every day, just to see how things are going. If I need her at any time I can message her and she responds incredibly promptly. We have a 30–45-minute session every week. And throughout the week, there are groups offered to everyone, there are so many different types of groups, and they are available throughout the entire day; every day. There is also a journal where you can share about your day or follow a prompt. It’s incredible.

First time in therapy

By Tracy H., Hamilton, OH, Verified Reviewer

I'm in my 40's and probably should have started therapy a long time ago. I really didn't know what to expect going in, but my work-sponsored EAP works with BetterHelp and I chose Jacqueline Witsberger as my therapist. My experience with BetterHelp and my therapist has been fantastic and has really helped me. My therapist has been very professional and has checked in on me even in times where I have been so overwhelmed, I haven't been logging in and being as present as I should be. That means a lot to me. She is very responsive. She listens without judgement, and she is kind without sugarcoating anything. As someone who has never been in any kind of therapy or counseling, I don't have anything to compare this to, but I can say that it has been very helpful to me, and I am appreciative of the services they offer and would recommend BetterHelp to anyone.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The ease of getting started

The ability to pick my provider and if it wasn't a good fit I could easily change providers

A lot of the services included outside of the actual sessions, including groupinars and journals ECT

If it wasn't covered by my work EAP, it would be unaffordable to me

Amazing platform if you have money...

By JoDee P., Belgrade, MT, Verified Reviewer

...but duh, who are we kidding. So many low-income folks would greatly benefit from the platform, but WE have to go thru public assistance, which is understaffed, hates their jobs, and we have to struggle with their constant changes in staffing because they are underpaid. Cool how capitalism is huh, kids?

I was seeing a wonderful counselor, who I could not recommend enough last July. In September, I tried to end my life and ended up in alcohol rehab in Washington. I returned to no job and haven't worked since. Yesterday I find out they have been charging me $224 a month while I was in the loony bin, and that is why I don't have money for gas or my bills. They graciously let me cancel my account as of March 3rd and I can't get any of of the money back. I guess I could use the session thru March 3rd to cry about how I will lose my home. It's actually quite funny, in a sick Monty Python kind of way. What killed her, her online counseling app.

I found BetterHelp on Google and I wish I knew about it before as they provide a great service. The way how they system and how they assign you the right therapist is fantastic. After an assessment of your situation, needs, and what type of support you need, they find the one, and in case doesn't work, you can change.

I found my therapist Amanda so helpful, professional, and kind. I had a short period time treatment as I felt better since the first session. I invested in the most useful and beneficial way my money, for myself, my happiness, and my health.

Needing help to cope with anxiety? No problem! BetterHelp is here to help you!

By Karina C. , Pembroke, GA

For years I’ve been dealing with anxiety and my own negative thoughts on my own. Thinking I can do this on my own but I came to the realization that I do need help. The best help I can ever ask for, and I get to pick a perfect schedule where I can sit and talk to someone. If I didn’t look for help, I would have still been under high chronic anxiety and unable to work or do my day-to-day work.

Some therapists just won’t care

By Elizabeth D., Brownsville, TX, Verified Reviewer

I came here thinking that I was going to find someone to help me but so far I’ve had nothing but issues. My first therapist assigned had a very tight schedule, which is understandable, so I had to look for someone else. And then this person didn’t even show up for our session. It’s hard enough to seek help and now to have this experience gets me more frustrated and stressed than I was in the beginning.

Good service but only if you can cope with change

By Lee O., United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

I have been a long-term user of BetterHelp and here are a few things that you may find useful when deciding whether it's the right service for you, or not.

Positives:

- There are usually lots of online appointments to choose from and you can see in advance the therapists' offered availability, even before you choose them!

- Their technology offers good customer service team communication and multiple channels to keep in touch with your chosen counselor: written messages, audio and video calls, pre-recorded messages.

- There's an "urgent" option when you attempt to contact your therapist outside of an agreed session, which means that they will try to check in on you asap.

Negatives, and important to note:

- Some of their counselors can be quite rude, plus any of the BetterHelp therapists can cut you off at any time, with ZERO TO NO PRIOR WARNING and without them even having to give you a proper explanation, it can be as vague as "I don't feel comfortable anymore with counseling you." This can be a very traumatic experience, especially if you take self-development seriously. You may never find out what happened exactly and you will need to choose a new therapist right after if you don't want to take a break from counseling.

- The therapists cannot necessarily give you the same time or even the same day each week, it is up to their own discretion whether they would do that for you or not.

- The therapists may put misleading information on their profile before you choose them, without the customer service team being aware of it. For example, saying that they are there for you and will proceed at your pace, however when you are unable to set five goals by the third session with them, you are out and they will do other things while you are talking to them. You can actually see/hear that in the video call, it is heartbreaking!

Length of Use: 1–2 years

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Number of available appointments per week

Varied technology available for you to use

Good customer team communication and urgent need label for your message to your therapist

Rude therapists, misleading therapist profile information

You can be cut off by the therapist at any time without them having to give you a proper explanation

You may not get the same time or even the same day each week for your appointment

I would like to continue using the services, but even with discounts, it is too expensive for me.
