I no longer feel alone...

By Heather M., Melbourne, Australia, Verified Reviewer

…in my quest to get into healthy, life-changing eating habits. The support both from you, the Noom folks, and the others in my group with their comments, successes, and frustrations all laid out and shared for us to say "yeah, that's me." Thank you to everyone involved, and best wishes to everyone past, present, and future who chose to do the right thing and embrace Noom.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Hopeful and happy

By Martha S., Nazareth, PA, Verified Reviewer

Noom has been a great experience for me. Especially motivating is weighing myself daily, and there’s a graph on Noom that shows my progress. There are a few weight gain days, but overall there’s a downward trend. Also, when I slip up and eat badly, looking at my weight loss graph motivates me to get back on track. In the past, this has been a true struggle for me. I lost 13 lbs the first month. Even if I lose half that in February, I will be so happy!

Great learning tool

By Hannah B., Norwich, United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

I have really enjoyed using Noom and have learned so much more about food and habits with this program than any other I have tried before. It has helped me make better decisions and understand the decisions I make good or bad. It has made me try new foods and new ways of eating which really has meaning, and I have had the success of a 12 lbs loss in 5 weeks.

My only criticism is the group support. Groups tend to be quite large and it's hard to build relationships with others to get a true sense of support from others. I personally don't find it of value, but it doesn't by any means take away from all the other great info and advice which can really help a successful journey to a healthier lifestyle.

I lose weight and feel great!

By Marijke V., Amsterdam, Netherlands, Verified Reviewer

Working with Noom helped me lose weight, where no other diet or program has helped me before. Moreover, I feel great and energetic. It is nice that no foods are forbidden. I can make my own choices and plan meals ahead, to be able to stay within my calorie budget and still eat the food I like. In this way, I do not feel deprived of anything. It stimulates to make smarter and healthier choices. Because of that, I feel much more energetic and my skin is improving. Noom also helped me to overcome some bad habits and grow new ones. My relationship with food changes to a healthier one, as a result of all the information and task Noom gives me.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Well thought out, useful info and encouragement

By Maryann O., Austin, TX, Verified Reviewer

I dislike Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because of a bad previous experience with it. That said, Noom does seem to be very helpful and informative in its use of it. I like very much the encouragement from the weekly coach. I’m spending 3 weeks in Vietnam and eating every meal out with social pressures and my temporary goal is to not gain weight. I haven’t been able to weigh at all except today when a scale said I was 68 kg. No idea what that translates to. Having foods assigned green, yellow and red is a great idea especially being able to eat some red foods. However, sometimes the calorie counts are way off and something is listed as yellow when it should be green or green when it should be yellow or red. This is particularly true about Lean Cuisine meals. Also, there aren’t enough "back" buttons. For instance, you must put in a weight, and I just wanted to look at my previous weights and had no access to a scale. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get back on track once I’m back in the states. I haven’t used the group much, but it seems as though there are many people in it.

A good base, but needs work

By Pascale S., Twin Cities, MN, Verified Reviewer

The concept is pretty good, but there are parts that just don't work for me. I do like the daily pointers that come across the app, although they think they are funnier than they are. The database of foods is really lacking, nothing akin to the size of the database that LoseIt! or MyFitnessPal have, so that's rather frustrating. For example, I tend to eat a 12-grain bread occasionally. They don't have my exact bread in their database. When I just look at the 12-grain breads they do have, one entry (unknown brand, doesn't say) is classified as a GREEN food and another one (also not labeled) is classified as a RED food - what the heck?

I do like the daily breakdown of green/yellow/red foods in the daily nutritional profile - I probably find that most helpful.

I find the coaching utterly useless. The "personal" coach never has any suggestions AT ALL - I would assume they can see what you're entering in your app and make suggestions based on that, but all she ever does is ask what I want to do. Well, I can do that for myself. There's zero feedback on the tracking you do. The group chat is only nominally better, because you might get feedback from other people in the group, but most people post something and who knows if anyone actually reads any of it. Again, there's essentially no feedback, so what's the point?

I am losing weight, and that's good - like I said, I do think that the tracking of what I'm eating does help (although I track on Noom and I also track on LoseIt! because they have a much better database, so I'm having to pretty much do it twice every day). In retrospect, would I pay for it again? No. Do I think it has potential? Yes, but it's not ready for Prime Time.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Almost love

By Fernanda M., Dublin, Ireland, Verified Reviewer

Using Noom has been such a good experience! The program is so helpful, inspiring and effective in promoting sustainable change in habits, it holds me accountable, and it makes me feel accomplished.

My only struggle is with limited options for food logging, as the database is predominantly American. I live in Europe and it’s hard to find a suitable match for lots of foods; scanning bar code never brings me results and I spend a lot of time adding things from scratch.

Noom has certainly changed my relationship with food and exercise, though, and I am riding a pretty good wave of confidence!

Overpriced and underdelivers

By Ashley C., Haute Garonne, France, Verified Reviewer

This app purports to provide coaching and weight loss support through a team of experts and a social experience. The app, however, has a series of UI flaws and the coaching provided is very limited.

The best thing about the app is the series of reminders to log your weight and food for the day. One thing to note, you can add foods, but the app is resistant to accepting them as part of their overall categorization scheme (red, yellow and green). Instead, it is classified as a "custom" food. This is a real hindrance for international users.

Most of the "coaching" comes from a series of prepared content that has cute hashtags written in self-improvement speak. This content is limited and gets repeats by week 4, and not as a review session. There are also diagrams that you can not click to enlarge, which are then useless.

Prior to purchasing the app, you are told that you will have a coach that you will check in with weekly. Personal weekly check-ins cease after the introductory period. In addition, coaching is "How are you going to do that?" Not very helpful.

Lastly, it is not a good value for the money. Fees also vary depending on how you sign up. I got an email to save after I had signed up to a different email account, and the savings were significant.

I have found another app that is easier to use and 1/12 of the price. I will be using that and have since canceled my Noon subscription.

Amazing concept

By Greta B., United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

Love the concept of the app. The psychology tips, my coach, my group. Logging foods is quite easy. It really helps to realize how much you eat, and how well you eat with the color system. I just missed easier recipes with an international metric system. It would be great as well to have a weekly menu planner and a shopping list. But generally, I love Noom!

Excellent

By Sally C., Nebraska, Verified Reviewer

I really like the Noom weight loss/healthy lifestyle program. I like the every day step by step information on curbing appetite on the how and why, etc. I like all the informative information presented each day. I like the one on one coaching. It really helps when a gentle nudge or reminder comes that someone is there for you. I am not much for sharing with a group, but I do enjoy reading the groups struggles which reinforces I am not alone. I like the way the food is color coded which is very helpful in making a conscious effort on healthy choices. I like the coaching to keep active and exercise, etc. This program has been a success for me since I started. I am very glad I am part of the Noom program. It is working great for me. Thank you so much. Hopefully, I will stay the course and keep on my healthy track.
