Focus T25 Challenge Week 5: Our Participants are Thinner, but this Isn’t Reflected on the Scale

Now that our participants have completed half of their 10-week T25 Challenge, we thought it would be a good time to ask them about their overall impressions, and to gauge their satisfaction levels. On top of this, because we understand that many individuals who start an exercise program may not lose weight—but may lose inches—we thought it would be important to track each participant’s waist size.

So what did we find out? Let’s take a look.

Test Subject #1

Now that you’re on the fifth week, are the routines easier to complete?
Yes, they’re definitely easier because they’re more familiar now, but they’re still hard for me. But they also look difficult for the group in the video, so I don’t feel bad. I keep pushing myself as best I can.

Can you do the regular routines yet, or are you still doing the modified versions?
I’m still doing the modified versions a lot, but I always start by following Sean T.

Were you able to stick with a sensible diet and maintain healthy eating habits during the week? Why or why not?
I was able to eat healthy most of the week. I took one day off on Sunday, but got back on track during the week. It’s hard to always be perfect on a diet plan, but mostly I’m on track.

Do you feel the Focus T25 program is helping or hindering your healthy eating habits?
I feel like it’s helping, because I know that if I overeat (even on healthy food), it will be much more difficult to work out on a full stomach. Also, my goal is to lose weight, so I try to stick to the plan I set for myself.

Do you find that you're more or less hungry during the week?
I don’t feel any different. I try to make sure that I eat every 3 hours until 6pm, but I did eat later on some days, and it was harder to exercise on a fuller stomach.

How much weight did you lose this week?
None.

How much total weight have you lost so far?
4 pounds.

Have you experienced any noticeable results?
Even though I haven’t seen noticeable results on the scale, my waist decreased from 41 inches to 37 inches, so I’m very excited to see that change. In fact, I could see this decrease without even measuring myself, since my clothes now fit better and are becoming a little loose.

Do you feel like you’ve made progress after 5 weeks?
Yes. I feel much better about myself, and I definitely feel stronger. I went to the mountains this week and was able to go uphill without losing my breath. That felt great!

Now that you’ve reached the midpoint of the program, are you satisfied with what you’ve been able to accomplish so far?
I’m satisfied that I feel stronger and more toned, but I wish that I would have lost more weight at this point. That’s what really makes me feel better; when the scale is moving down.

What is your outlook for the second half of the program?
I think it’s going to get intense, and I’m a little scared because I still can’t master the Alpha workout.

Daily Breakdown

Day 1 – Total Body Circuit: A very hard and intense workout that gives me a good sweat every time.

Day 2 – Ab Intervals: Some of the moves are still a little confusing for me. I always feel pain the day following this workout, so I know I’m getting in a good sweat.

Day 3 – Total Body Circuit: Since I just did this workout on Monday and I still remember the moves, it’s not as hard on Day 3.

Day 4 – Cardio: I like this day. The workout goes by fast.

Day 5 – Total Body Circuit: I got in a good sweat, and it was a good way to end the week. Well, except the stretch workout on day 6.

Test Subject #2

Now that you’re on the fifth week, are the routines easier to complete?
Yes, they are definitely easier. I got stronger.

Can you do the regular routines yet, or are you still doing the modified versions?
I still do the modified versions a lot.

Were you able to stick with a sensible diet and maintain healthy eating habits during the week? Why or why not?
This workout helped me stick to my diet, because if I had a setback that day, the workout ended up being very hard for me.

Do you feel the T25 program is helping or hindering your healthy eating habits?
Helping, because I’m trying to lose weight.

Do you find that you're more or less hungry during the week?
I feel the same.

How much weight did you lose this week?
None.

How much total weight have you lost so far?
I’m back to the weight I started at. If you don’t completely stick to the T25 eating plan (or your own), you won’t lose weight, even it you do all the recommended workouts. Instead, you’ll probably just gain strength and become more toned, as long as your body is already thin enough. However, if you’re overweight, I don’t think you’ll be able to see that much.

Have you experienced any noticeable results?
Yes, and it shows in my measurements. For instance, my waist went from 29.5 inches to 27 inches. I’m very happy to see these results, and now I have proof that it’s working.

Do you feel like you’ve made progress after 5 weeks?
Yes, I feel strong.

Now that you’ve reached the midpoint of the program, are you satisfied with what you’ve been able to accomplish so far?
Yes, I’m satisfied, and I feel great.

What is your outlook for the second half of the program?
If the first half of the program was this was hard, I can only imagine what’s to come in the second half. However, I do feel stronger, so I’m excited to see what it will be like.

Daily Breakdown

Day 1 – Total Body Circuit: I feel the most results from this one.

Day 2 – Ab Intervals: This workout is a little confusing, but every little bit helps, so I tried to stay focused.

Day 3 – Total Body Circuit: The same as day one, and it feels good in the end. But it’s still very hard.

Day 4 – Cardio: My favorite workout. I sweat the most with this one.

Day 5 – Total Body Circuit: I feel stronger, even when compared to just a few days ago.

T25 May Be Effective in Helping You Lose Inches, but Not Necessarily Weight

Now that we’ve reached the halfway point, our participants have found T25 to be fairly effective at decreasing their waist size, although this decrease isn’t necessarily reflected on the scale. In fact, Participant #1 has lost a total of four inches, and Participant #2—who was fairly fit to begin with—even lost 2.5.

Let’s see if this trend continues next week in our T25 Week 6 review!
