Like talking to a trusted friend.

By Tina T., New York, Verified Reviewer

My favorite part of BetterHelp and what really drew me to it was the fact that at any time, whenever I needed to, I could send a message about exactly what was going on at that moment. If I was having a bad day, a bad moment, a rough week, I could just drop a line at my convenience and express what I was feeling at that exact moment. My counselor would get back to me in a very timely manner, and we could have a running dialogue. I've been to an actual counselor in the past, who I loved and had a great rapport with, but not being able to just talk to her at the moment I needed to was always a struggle for me. I could be having a rough time, but my appointment wasn't for another two weeks, or when I did have an appointment, I had a hard time expressing what I was feeling at that moment in time.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

You can do it

By Adeola A., Lagos, Nigeria, Verified Reviewer

My journey with BetterHelp has been an exciting, insightful, and a good one. They have helped me move from my negative and depressed state into a more optimistic, focused, and positive one. I've always felt weak, timid and not good enough but through BetterHelp have realized and seen of a fact, that I can do anything that I set my mind to do by being focused and with the right and positive attitude. It always seems impossible, but they made it easy for me through my assigned counselor.

They have well-trained and professional counselors and the process is easy. I highly recommend BetterHelp. Do not waste another day in that sad and broken state. They are here to give you all the help you need to live your best life.

I did not reach their “standards” to receive online counseling.

By Cierra M., Emporia, VA, Verified Reviewer

I signed up with BetterHelp to talk to a counselor with some things I’m going through right now. I completed the survey so they could match me with the right counselor for me and the next day I received an email from the company stating that they have determined I was not a "good candidate" for online counseling from them. I am going through a lot and need someone to talk to because I don’t trust anyone enough to talk to them. I figured I could talk to someone whom I didn’t know so they could help me through this hard time, but however, I guess I didn’t reach their "standards," so they have declined me.

I’ve been going through a hard time for quite a while and I’m trying to overcome it myself, but I figured a counselor could help speed the process. This is a site to help individuals through their mental health issues, but they didn’t accept me? I just wonder how many people out their who needed the help more than I do get declined too. It’s very sad. They should be willing to help everyone no matter the circumstances, but I guess that is not the case.

I would definitely not recommend anyone to this site. However, I cannot vouch for everyone and their experiences, but I want to share mine with this site and let you all know how they treated me. Thanks for reading, have a great day.

Too pushy, misleading

By Romy R., New York, Verified Reviewer

I really detested the sales tactics used by this company. You aren't told BetterHelp does not accept insurance until after you sign up. Then you're bombarded with rude and disrespectful messages if you don't sign up. Their FAQs around insurance are discouraging people from checking to see whether they have existing coverage for treatment and instead use heavy-handed language to persuade you into thinking they are offering a great deal. Yuk, very tacky. I would expect a more honest approach from a company supposed to be assisting needy and vulnerable people.

Easy to use

By Megan C., Bristol, TN, Verified Reviewer

I was looking for an online therapy option when I found BetterHelp. I decided on BetterHelp because it was cost effective for me, but I was not sure it would work. I am impressed, to say the least. The platform is very easy to use. I love that I can log in from any internet connected device, and the app has always worked efficiently. I have used the chat, video, and phone features and all have worked very well.

There when I need it

By Michele C., Philadelphia, PA, Verified Reviewer

I first used BetterHelp a few years ago. I had always had traditional face to face counseling in the past when I needed help sorting out my problems. I found BetterHelp very supportive. My counselor responded to my notes very quickly (I was going through a break-up and needed to share) and I enjoyed writing things down, and receiving notes that I could re-read. Eventually, I found myself in a good place, and I took a break.

I returned just a few weeks ago. I have a new counselor who has expertise with my new issue (leaving a job and moving--getting anxious). He has not only written, but we have also had an asynchronous call. I think this is an amazing way of delivering great counseling, and I probably will always use BetterHelp whenever I need it.

BetterHelp

By D S., Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp is just that. "Better help" for all. It’s a great way to be assigned a certified counselor to assist with your specific needs. The counselors assigned are wonderful and are there whenever "you" need no matter day or night. And most of all, it’s "confidential!" I would highly recommend!

Real change made possible

By James T., London, England, Verified Reviewer

Through the BetterHelp website, I've received some of the best counseling of my life. The process of writing out any issues that are being dealt with, and then receiving thoughtful, carefully worded replies has proved more helpful than I could have ever imagined. Real change has been made possible.

Additionally, the process of being matched with the counselor who best suits your needs is superb. I work with Robert Beckett, and we have formed an exceptionally positive and productive relationship, although he lives in another country and time zone. I highly recommend this service, and especially Robert himself.

Constant Support, Amazing App!

By Jessica T., Toronto, Canada , Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp is an excellent tool to get to licensed professionals that are specific to your needs at a fraction of the cost of what you would pay for a sit-down consultation with a counselor. It’s easy to access your counselor's help at any time by simply sending them a message whenever you feel the need for their support. In a way, it’s consistent help, almost like a friend you can text who always want to be there for you!

Then you have a weekly phone call or video call to discuss more in depth what your issues are, I believe you can also just text them for a 1/2 hour time a lot if you don’t even prefer to call or video chat. So it’s suitable for your needs. I highly recommend. My counselor has helped me heal so much past traumas and is helping me to grow into a stronger person each time I speak with her, she’s my angel!

Helpful validation and a listening ear!

By Natalie S., Arizona, Verified Reviewer

Pat has provided more confirmation, clarity, and validation than I have ever received in my entire life. She has explained why I struggle with my family and finding employment. She provides tips to avoid conflicts. I love being able to email someone back and forth than having to go to a therapist. I have Auditory Dyslexia and Auditory Processing Disorder, so this set up really benefits me. Thank you! I would recommend this to anyone who is struggling.

BetterHelp has helped me

By Christine B., New York, Verified Reviewer

In the short amount of time that I have signed up for BetterHelp, it has helped me in various ways. I had a great counselor that helped me in my darkest times. It's a convenient app and if you can't afford it, there are options to make it easier for you to pay. If you're feeling out of it or not yourself, it's just a click away on your phone, tablet or computer. I don't regret it, and I will turn to this in the future for any other needs or concerns I have.

Fantastic

By Cara C., New Jersey, Verified Reviewer

Well, I have to say that my first experience with BetterHelp was tricky. I was matched with two other therapists that just didn't get what I was saying. Then along came M. She turned it all around. I was seeing a therapist face to face, and I actually stopped going because M was much more beneficial to me. The goals were attainable, and the homework was helpful and self-revealing. I wouldn't change it for the world. The best investment.

Very convenient and effective care

By Samantha G., Norwalk, CT, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp’s app is very convenient for anyone seeking therapy for mental health. The service offers multiple avenues for communication and scheduling convenient to your availability. You can correspond via a private chat room with your dedicated counselor, whom you get to choose. They use a matching system to pair you with someone who specializes in the issues you are facing, and at any time if you feel the counselor isn’t right, you can request a new counselor.

Other than the chat room, you can schedule half-hour sessions with your counselor via phone or video conferencing supported by their web and app-based software. For the phone, you can plug in your phone number or whatever phone number is most convenient for that particular session and BetterHelp will call you to connect with your counselor.

Your information never gets shared. The website and app are protected by password and number passcode respectively, so even if someone got your phone, they would not be able to access your chat log. Session scheduling is convenient - I find it easiest to schedule sessions during my lunch break and then find a quiet place to sit with my phone or laptop.

The counselors are top quality as well. I have only had one counselor assigned to me, but as a member, you have access to seminars led by other councilors in the app. Every week there are new seminars with different topics, and they are effective as well.

BetterHelp therapy worked for me

By Katherine H., Woodbridge, VA, Verified Reviewer

I started using BetterHelp in January 2018 as I began transitioning from one medication to another to help manage my symptoms during the medication taper. My counselor was so very helpful and supportive. She gave me so many tools to help manage my anxiety and depression. Between those tools and my medication, I am feeling like myself for the first time in almost a year. I sincerely appreciated my counselor's help and I really liked the ability to message her and receive a response throughout the week. I am stopping therapy now, but I know if I need to resume it in the future, I will be returning to BetterHelp.

Useless!

By Denise A., Framingham, MA, Verified Reviewer

Frankly, it was a joke. I'm grieving the loss of my brother and don't know how to cope. I tell the therapist how I feel and she says everything I feel is normal. No kidding! I need help! I responded saying that I needed ideas or tools to deal with overwhelming grief. She recommended that I write a letter to him. While writing a letter may be a good idea at some point, for now, I am overwhelmed with grief, and at the thought of writing a letter, I feel like my heart is breaking. This was like pulling teeth to get help and I don't have the energy. Useless!

Never tried anything like this, but it actually helped

By Krisitna M., Riga, Latvia, Verified Reviewer

I have never tried anything like this and never had a psychologist, I was scared of paying a lot of money and then seeing a psychologist for years without major changes. BetterHelp actually works. I didn't want to speak about and to look at my problems and concerns from different angles, because I did it myself already, I just needed some understanding on what is happening and why. I needed some advice on what I can do with the damage already done with my mental and physical health. I got exactly that! I have a great counselor who explained why I feel drained and anxious, and what can I do to get over these feelings and improve my health. It works - simple as that! Also, BetterHelp is for a reasonable price, working to help, not to take your money.

If you need help this is a good place to find it.

By Patricia B., Oregon, Verified Reviewer

In these days where it is so difficult to find and see a therapist on a regular basis and not go bankrupt, these people care. Through my primary care insurance, I was lucky to get an appointment every 8-10 weeks.

Ruth has given me tools and compassion to work with. She offers a variety of ways to make your appointments as convenient for her patients as possible.

They are here to help.

Great service

By Allison R., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has been a great resource. I have a busy schedule, and I can't easily accommodate face-to-face counseling. I think the best aspect of online counseling is how accessible my therapist is. I can send him a message of my thoughts or anxieties whenever, wherever, knowing that he is going to read it and get back to me within the next day or so. This is especially helpful when I'm processing the anxious thoughts that keep me awake at night. I know it's helpful to journal these, but I've found it even more helpful to type them out to my therapist, knowing I'm going to get feedback and guidance on these. It also helps alleviate some of the anxious thoughts that keep me up at night so I can sleep!

Scammers. No help.

By Joti, Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

I clicked on a link saying 7-day free trial, and they charged me $180 a month for two months on my card without sending me a bill. The therapist was zero help during the trial. They basically just scam you without your knowledge.

So much better than I could have imagined

By Nancy Spangenberg, New York, Verified Reviewer

For me, online therapy is so much more enjoyable and easy than traditional. BetterHelp has been an eye opener in that sense. Being able to connect with my therapist whenever something is on my mind is an amazing feature! The response from my therapist is usually within a few hours, and we talk almost daily. There is a record of everything we've both said in a text to go back and review if I need to.

I can choose to have a phone or video session when I feel the need, but because of the history of my texts, I have been preferring that route.

I can share what's on my mind when it happens. I can go into better detail without being interrupted by questions or comments and then leave it there for her to review and respond to.

BetterHelp has been a joy to use!

Great outlet

By Jamie Butzen, Lockport, IL, Verified Reviewer

When I started this app, I needed something different then what I had gotten before. Every time I have done therapy or have gone to the doctor, their initial response is to put me on medication. It has helped me, but I needed someone to at least listen and hopefully tell me I'm not completely crazy. My doctor doesn't judge and is very insightful and attentive to what I say. She helped me think more positive and get a different mindset. Sometimes you just need someone to give you a different perspective on things, and this app has given me that. Thank you.

Give it a try

By H. Erika Anderson, Spokane, WA, Verified Reviewer

I started using BetterHelp about three months ago. I love that I can do therapy at times that are convenient for me like weekends and evenings, something hard to do in traditional counseling. I have options for how to do therapy-messaging, live chat, video chat. I did switch counselors once because I felt I wasn't getting what I needed from my first counselor but it was easy to change and I am extremely pleased with my current counselor, Barnaby. He clarifies what I have told him, asks me questions, and then provides doable tasks to work on during the week to address my issues. Plus, I can message him during the week between sessions and he messages me back, usually the same day. I also like the cost of BetterHelp. It is so affordable.

Life changing app

By Christi VanZandt, Portland, OR, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has created a service that's nothing short of amazing. I'd been wanting to seek the guidance of a counselor for some time. I had the hardest time finding one that not only fit into my schedule, but also my budget. With BetterHelp I'm able to choose payments options and frequency, my counselor tries to accommodate my schedule best as possible, both leading me to appreciate deeply that this is even an option. I recommend this service to all that have mentioned that they are seeking counseling. 11/10, would highly recommend. Thank you, BetterHelp.
